There's a bit of a buzz about Polis – a little town in the north-west of Cyprus. This quiet, almost unassuming little place is home to one of the best regarded hotels in the country: the Anassa Hotel. What's so special about it? The Anassa Hotel is extraordinary in every respect. Of course its setting is perfect; its outlook is absolutely idyllic. But it takes more than that to earn commendations from so many guests. And it takes a lot more than that to earn five stars. Of course you really need to experience the Anassa Hotel for yourself. But in the meantime, we'll just have to tell you why so many people think this is the finest hotel in the country...
The Anassa Hotel is just a little bit off the beaten track, giving it an exclusive, secluded feel. And what a view…Set on a hill, overlooking one of the region's most beautiful beaches, the Anassa Hotel looks down into the deep blue of the Mediterranean.
The hotel is designed and arranged in a classical Cypriot style. The low-rise, whitewashed buildings and superb tropical gardens are artfully arranged around the 'village square'. A Byzantine chapel dominates the square adding to the sense that you're staying in a traditional village, albeit with all the finest five star facilities.
So what about those facilities? Let's start with the rooms… Each en suite studio is air conditioned and has its own balcony. Furnishings are elegant and comfortable with facilities including ceiling fan, satellite TV, telephone, mini-bar, safe and hairdryer. Garden studio suites are also available at a supplement.
The decor and furnishings are exquisite. The subtle earthen tones and light, damask fabrics give the rooms an almost fairy-tale feel that's wholly appropriate given the incredible praise bestowed on this fine hotel.
If the rooms evoke a perfect old world idyll, then the Thalassa Spa takes you there. Modelled on a Roman style retreat – the sky-lit indoor pool, complete with Roman style colonnades is simply majestic. Treatments range from a one-off detox to life-long holistic lessons for body and soul.
Body rejuvenated, it's time for action. Perhaps a swim? The two pools at the Anassa Hotel are linked by glittering waterfalls – another example of impossibly high standards or that fairy tale aesthetic? And if you've got a taste for whirling, crashing, cascading water, why not try a spot of windsurfing (or sailing, if your prefer) at the Akams Marine Reserve?
There are choices galore at the Anassa Hotel restaurants too, where they keep things interesting with a daily changing menu. It's big on fresh, local produce and tips its hat to Cypriot, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine.
A stay at the Anassa Hotel has to be regarded as one of life's great joys. Its impeccable standards ensure that every guest will have the time of their lives in absolute comfort and unabashed luxury.
Please note that shared transfers are included in the price of your holiday, however you can upgrade to private transfers from just £43 when flying in to Paphos or £102pp when flying in to Larnaca Airport.
A small town on the Northwest end of Cyprus, Polis is a quiet resort, famed for its exclusivity and the standard of its hotels. The nearby town of Latchi is famed for its harbour and fish taverns and is definitely worth a visit. The Akamas Peninsula Nature Reserve is also hugely popular for its stunning vistas and tranquil setting.
