Amazing 😍

Review by seiraw2021

The hotel's location is perfect, directly at beachfront. The ambiance and the food is just great, right at the heart of Diani beach. And they also offer afternoon cofffee and tea at no charge, which is great ❤️

15 night stay at Diani Reef Resort, Diani Beach

Review by CandicePza Al Ain, United Arab Emirates

My husband and I had a lovely time at Diani Reef on route to Dubai. This strip of beach is really stunning and perfect for walking (if u don't mind the beach boys haggling you constantly) as well as swimming and floating in the waves. The resort itself seriously needs maintenance for a 5 star rated resort. Our shower over bath was constantly between warm and cold, never hot, and after complaining 4 times... Nothing changed...

The lamps were unstable, pictures on the walls falling apart, and the towels thin and discoloured.

We chose the full board option which had a great buffet, food was tasty, however all inclusive would have been a better deal if that was an option as we didn't get even a glass of water with lunch and dinner without buying and drinks are not cheap with the zar exchange rate. We were also disappointed that there were no 'happy hour' drink specials like most other holiday/beach resorts have. This would have made sunsets at the pool/on the beach better (and busier I'm sure).

Another aspect just to note was that it took an hour just to get a cuppacino one day, and the same/longer for lunch at the beach restaurant some days. This was one thing we couldn't overlook. Understaffed possibly, we were told that covid had major effects on the resort and in the area in general, but this is inexcusable for a 5 star, seemingly busy resort. We actually ended up walking to Leopard lodge just up the beach for an occasional cuppacino and drink a few of the days as their coffee station and bar was great and quick.

Thankfully the staff at Diani Reef do try their best to make up for it somewhat with their friendly, helpful, family-type nature. Special mention to Mohammed at the front, Juan on the beach, Salim around the pool, the massai gentlemen keeping us safe and entertained, Maurice at the bar, the restaurant manager, Ali and the rest of the restaurant staff for their hospitality. They even managed to setup the rugby for us on the projector screen which was great.

The personal trainer was also a welcomed addition to the gym (which also needs maintenance with the treadmill and cross-trainer both out of order for the full duration of our trip and 3 promises of it being fixed) to make our couple of holiday workouts better. He is great at what he does!

In the area, we enjoyed a few outings. We did a boat trip to Wasini for snorkeling and dolphin spotting, a glass boat and snorkeling stint at Lagoon Reef, and a long boat trip up the Kongo River with a walk through Tiwi village and beach swim.

Albeit the maintenance issues of the resort and clear points that need attention, overall, we left Diani feeling well rested, relaxed, and quite a few shades browner :)
