Canifor Hotel

Malta and Gozo, Europe
Qawra

Sun seekers rejoice – here's a holiday hotspot that's refreshingly laidback. Qawra, up at the North Eastern tip of the archipelago is the place to be for its attractive pebbly beaches, its array of water sports activities and, of course, its sunshine.

One of the island's premier places to stay, the Canifor Hotel brings you four star facilities right in the heart of Qawra. Famed for its friendly and attentive service, it's one of those 'you won't have to lift a finger' hotels – the staff will do whatever they can to ensure you have a really relaxing holiday.

The sun, scenery and impressive service make the Canifor Hotel a top holiday choice:

As soon as you arrive at the Canifor Hotel you'll know you're in for a treat. The impressive reception area shows that this is a hotel of real quality. And it's ideally situated for whatever kind of holiday you want. There are flat, pebbly beaches at St. Pauls and Salina Bays – both wonderful places to take a dip and catch some rays.

The Canifor Hotel is just the sort of base you need. The en suite rooms are all fully air-conditioned and come with direct dial phone, radio and mini cooler. Each has its own balcony too.

There are certainly lots of incentives to spend time in the hotel, whether it's for a dip in the indoor or outdoor pools (or Jacuzzi for a bit of a treat), or a quick tan top up on the terrace. To really get you relaxing, you can even have a massage (there is a charge for this service) – just one more way that the Canifor Hotel really looks after you.

The Canifor Hotel has its own restaurant as well as a Saturday pizzeria to tempt you.

Qawra gives you all the ingredients for a perfect Maltese holiday – and one of the most important is the Canifor Hotel itself. As soon as you're booked in, you'll begin to relax and enjoy the perfect laidback lifestyle.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Lorte hotel

Review by Frkmadmor

it should have been is 4 star hotel but can honestly say I would not even give it 1 star ... loose tiles on the floor, dirty in the bathroom and you had to wait between 15-30min the toilet was ready again and you can hear it run 😔 air conditioning was only running from 19-02 and then there was otherwise scorching in the room so you could not bear to be there so you had to sleep with the balcony door open ... the bed was so hard you could not bear to lay on them and they had taken the top mattress ....

definitely somewhere heg advises people not to go to ... the pool is open until 6pm due to cleaning they say but you can clearly see it needs to be cleaned

Friendly Staff

Review by thegregs586 Staffordshire, United Kingdom

Just spent a lovely week in Malta. We stayed in the Canifor Hotel. The staff from arrival were friendly and helpful...

The hotel was lovely an clean with someone cleaning surfaces down throughout the day. The restaurant had tables spaced out and hand wash before you entered. The staff were helpful and friendly as they served you were 4 star food featuring a choice of roast meats each day. In the bar/café again very friendly even when busy at lunch times. Due to the low numbers in the hotel the lunch menu was a limited choice but offered salads, hot food and sandwiches. All inclusive guest were served full pints of Cisk larger served in plastic for outside and glass for inside, genuine brand soft drinks and fruit juices. We had a family room which was spacious and cleaned everyday. My only disappointment was the quality of the air flow with the noisy air conditioning. At present the evening entertainment is only available Friday and Saturday nights which is also a venue for a locals to dance the night away. The hotel is located in a convenient place just 5 minuets way from the Qawra and Bugibba rocky beaches and a 2 minuet walk to the bus station with a fantastic service to any where on the island for just 2 Euros one way. We were unsure about travelling at the moment but the staff made us feel at ease with their friendly service.

Needs upgrading

Review by sephorab225

Stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. It is what you pay for. If you are going to choose this place simply for accomodation it is good...

However please avoid the food. The food was too repetitive, had funny tastes and there was no variety at all. Dining area was not 100% clean as well. Certain staff members in the kitchen should keep their uniform clean and presentable. Not with their but crack showing!

You get what you pay for!

Review by bentully18 Bromley, United Kingdom

I’ve got to admit I was quite reluctant about staying at this hotel after reading some of the reviews.

Upon arrival, the hotel seemed very nice, with a nice well lit lounge and reception. The receptionist didn’t speak much English and because my flight into Malta arrived early, we were unable to check in until later. She allowed me to leave my luggage in a room behind the reception, which I thought was helpful...

There were many shops along the seafront nearby so it was quite easy to kill time.

Once we got into the room, it was quite spacious however obviously dated, and there a few stains on the wall etc. The bed sheets were clean, and the beds were well made and presented. (The cleaners come in every morning to change bed sheets)

The pool outside was very small!! Countless times I kept bumping into people whilst swimming because there isn’t that much space to move around. There was so much space occupied by sun loungers that weren’t used. The space could easily be used my efficiently for a bigger pool, which would definitely satisfy many more guests.

There was an indoor pool, which was a basic square shape. It was not heated, but it wasn’t very busy so it was more ideal than the packed, tiny outdoor pool.

Our view from the room was the back of dirty apartment buildings and the pool area, so that wasn’t very satisfying at all. The balcony was tiny, and it was impossible to sit on the balcony without the smell of people smoking their cigarettes on the balconies below. This was very unpleasant, considering i’m a non-smoker.

The food was by far the worst part of the holiday. Breakfast was decent, with bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast etc. every morning, which wasn’t too bad overall. Dinner, on the other hand, was horrific. I’ve got to say this is the worst food I have ever experienced at a hotel and definitely requires major improvement. It was so bad, a few of our family members had to quit eating at the restaurant, that we paid for by the way... We ended up eating out for pretty much the whole holiday.

Overall, it could be an okay hotel for a short stay, however avoid staying at this hotel for long time periods such as 2 weeks. The staff were mostly friendly, however a few were quite arrogant, such as the restaurant staff. This is understandable though, as they are being forced to serve horrible, barely edible food. The hotel definitely exceeded my expectations though, as some of the reviews are quite harsh. It was nothing more or less than expected for the price I paid.
