It was our honeymoon, we had never been there, so we decided to go. On arrival the surroundings of the hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful...

The one person that stood out to me from day one was a gentleman by the name of Mr. Ricardo Gonsalves, very professional and helpful.

Fabulous views

Review by Mandy W

Had a fantastic 10 days here, after losing our holiday with Thomas Cook, after seeing bad reviews we were a bit apprehensive, but don’t listen to the people who pick fault with everything , the hotel reception staff are very friendly, we arrived just after midnight, they put a wristband on us straight away and said the bar may still be open , unfortunately it had just closed , but there was self service beer on tap , when we got to our room we had sandwiches, cake, fruit and a bottle of water , we had no issues with the food , always tasted good and a good selection, we visited the Italian restaurant 3 times and was lovely, room was spacious, bed was comfy , cleaned every day and towels and sheets changed whenever you needed , I would say the only thing missing was tea / coffee facilities in the room , although you could go downstairs to get one , and due to being the end of the season the entertainment was not very good , we would definitely go back but maybe a bit earlier in the year The beach was amazing with secluded little coves and lovely boardwalk into Alvor harbour and beyond , would also recommend the courtesy bus into Portimao harbour

Revisited on a weekend golf trip. It is what it is a cheap hotel, unfortunately you get what you pay for. The rooms were comfortable and clean...

Pool bar is like old fashioned canteen and not comfortable, the snacks were not good. The food in the main restaurant was very poor an evening meal consisting of sauces on the grill, not ina four star hotel surely. My advice spend a bit more money and get a better holiday. We spoke to four people who had been poorly after eating here. Lots of folk going into Alvor for meals us included

golfing holiday for 8 married couples

Review by eatoutonwednesdays

on check-in you are advised to spend 14 euros on a gold wristband which will enable you to upgrade to 'internationally known booze'. This is a complete waste of money. there is only one beer throughout the hotel...

it is called 'super brock (or bock),. it's not an unpleasant lager but it's all they've got so if you are a beer drinker you are stymied. the women in our party wanted baileys. you get some sort of irish cream that you can get in aldi or lidl. There aint no baileys. the gin is beefeater and only beefeater. the brandy is the local grog with no alternative. if you are dull enough to buy a gold armband then just one of you need buy it but this will mean that you go to get served always but hey ho it's the men who do that anyway. Our room was on the 15th storey and we had marvelous views across the sea and alvor. however, just at the perimeter of the hotel grounds there is a brick building which houses the noisiest diesel generator i've heard. this fires up at 6.30am without fail. i don't know it's purpose, it may be to power the irrigation system but jesus! it's so noisy and will awaken the heaviest sleepers. if you can, ask for a room on the other side of the hotel to avoid this. (i.e. the r-h-side as viewed from the beach). our room was a little bit dated with a couple of cracked and broken tiles in the bathroom as well as the paint 6 inches up the bottom of the bathroom door having peeled off due to water ingress/spillage over a period of time. the room was large enough with enough wardrobe space etc. the water supply was boiling and plentiful. the maid service was beyond complaint, so all in all the living area was good. There were 4 lifts but only 2 of them were working constantly. i think the cleaners/maintenance personnel commandeered the other 2 always. the first thing you notice as you enter the hotel is that there is a sulphorous aroma permeating throughout the reception area, in the lifts and along the hallways. you end up suspecting the people who have just got out of the lift of farting in there prior to you entering. worst still is that as you leave and passengers enter then they probably think that you too have broken wind. this aroma hung around for the 7 day duration of our hols. There are just 2 bars. one on the first floor and one at the poolside cafe/bar. you can get served at the pool bar without too much of a problem but you will drink out of cardboard cups no matter what drink you order. the other bar is circular and has just the one barman on duty at all times, hence a very large queue of frustrated customers, especially when the barman serves people out of turn (yes! i'm a brit). the poolside bar is a bit like a canteen and serves mainly cold snacks at lunchtime and beyond. the entertainment takes place in this bar nearer some upholstered seating. the entertainment consisted of a male keyboard player and a female singer. if they were playing outside my house i would draw the curtains. i've had more fun and been better entertained when aunty lilla and uncle ernie performed their greased toilet paper over a comb (kazoo) and the spoons at various parties in the 50's. we had no problem with the food. it was a buffet type of smash and grab with two or three meats, fish, pasta etc etc. the sweets were typical of spain and portugal with a hell of a lot of cake but for the health conscious there was a huge choice of fruit and veg. as i said we had no probs with the food. we tried to book the restaurant on the day we arrived to be told that the only vacancy they had was at 9.30pm on the friday before we left which peed off a few of the party. the main canteen has the tables quite close to each other and the cacophony of noise makes it seem quite industrial rather than a serene place to enjoy the food. the beach and good walks are adjacent to the hotel. the sea was reasonably warm sept 24th, 2019 and to the left of the beach, where the big lumps of rock are to be seen the shelf isn't very severe which makes exiting the water manageable. the swimming pool is coldish but what the hell! you only stay in for about 15 mins at a time usually. we played 3 golf courses which were very good but be warned a buggy costs 45 euros and an electric trolley costs 23 euros. so, if you are a couple a buggy for 2 people is cheaper than 2 elec trolleys. i hired a pull trolley as i prefer to walk the courses. thios cost 6 euros. in summary, we had a really good holiday but this hotel is not 5 star. in reality it's 3 star. did that spoil our enjoyment? not really as we are going back next year albeit to the pestana blue which they claim to be a 5 star hotel. However, after reading many reviews relevant to the pestana blue i think it may just scrape 4 stars. that's me done tchau.

Hotel need to be updated

Review by hopdiamond Massapequa Park, New York

The hotel staff was not helpful at all and was trying to move us as quick as possible. However we needed to know a little information to check in. Pool area was not clean and smelled of sewage...

We stayed here 3 nights and by the 1st day we went up to our rooms because we couldn't take the smell anymore. Day 2 and 3 we went out and stayed away. This hotel needs updating. Also need more knowledgeable staff. We tried to order and vodka with club soda with a splash of cranberry, the bartender was a kid and had no idea what club soda was.
