The White Island

We have just returned from a fantastic week in Ibiza we stayed in Es Cana in the hotel Alua soul Ibiza with jet 2 the hotel on the jet 2 website claims it’s a 4 star plus ? We did pick the all inclusive option and a superior sea view room the room did have a fantastic sea view looking all across the bay stunning and the sunrise was breathtaking it was also good for people watching? The room itself was not to bad, the food was very nice lots to choose from but much the same drinks were not so good you get the crap stuff unless you paid for the good stuff and cocktails as well, bar and pool areas open from 10.00 and for all inclusive stops at 23.00 if you like good entertainment during the day and night this is not the place for you!! music around the pool area was well not what you would expect from Ibiza we are not young but come on it sometimes felt like god’s waiting room there are a few good bars around doing the usual stuff, but if you want the good stuff it’s cab rides so be prepared to spend £100 euros a night on cabs. We did use the ferry a few times into Ibiza old town that was great. In hindsight we would have not booked all inclusive to this hotel it’s much to restrictive and we ended up paying for the branded drinks anyway and eating out but that’s our choice? Staff were generally friendly but definitely sorted out the paying customers first, all bar snacks and outside food were not on the all inclusive either which was a bit of a pain all in all a nice quiet safe area to stay in.

what to say......

visited this hotel as a couple in June. We were very much looking forward to this as it was our first "proper" holiday in 2-years. I had high expectations for the hotel which was probably my fault as I was overall left with disappointment...

Hotel awarded "small luxury hotels of the world" how that came about I am unsure as I did not experience anything that would merit such accreditation. It was booked with Jet two holidays with indulgent escapes. First initial impression was a bit meh, bland reception with bland atmosphere. Greeted by wow you are here for two weeks that's fabulous and offered us a drink while we checked in and completed paperwork etc. Sent to our room which I was unimpressed by that, view of dusty carpark with grim seating and table on balcony. Room in desperate need of total revamp especially shower area. No water left complimentary in room through day, this was just plonked down on dressing table while carrying out some poor excuse for a turn down service absolutely pointless exercise, close part of the blind, throw the cushions and bed throw to wherever it lands. I have became to expect turndown to be, close curtains, remove dirty towels, empty bin and turn down your bed linen, I am more than capable of throwing about cushions myself. Pool area was lovely although some loose paving stones could do with repair we never had any problems getting a bed. They do seem to clean the sun loungers in the morning which I also found rather odd as they are left soaking. No towels arrive till about 10am. Breakfast pleasant enough, staff lovely and always offering a smile, always got a table outside and paper menu. WiFi not great but not really a problem for me as not my choice to go on holiday and be on phone etc. Only went to the roof top once for drink through day and I thought it was nothing spectacular, needs a bit of tlc, decking loose and grubby looking chairs that were scattered about. I totally appreciate that everywhere at the moment is short staffed but at the same time you are paying 5 star price for 3 star hotel. Also check your bill on checkout we had several rooms added to our account which the receptionist was very embarrassed about and quickly rectified. I am sorry and a little sad that I write not a glowing review as I did have high expectations for this hotel. Absolutely loved the resort but unfortunately I think this hotel is a no for me.

Not a 5 star! AVOID!!

Review by kierana326 Kent, United Kingdom

Charging 5* prices for a 3* hotel !

Below are the issues my wife and I encountered during our stay!

  • On arrival asked gentleman at front door where we were allowed to park our car. Advised out the front - no valet service.
  • Checked into room...

Room 135, premier room which was suppose to have a mountain view, there is no such view. We ask reception if we could move rooms and was told that all premier rooms have this view so there was nothing he could do. See picture

  • We are a married couple and sleeping in twin beds pushed together. This should be a double or king size bed.
  • Loose plug sockets - see picture
  • Taps in the room constantly broke. See picture
  • Cleanliness of the room was very poor. Floors were not swept and sides not wiped down.
  • Pen marks on the side. See picture
  • Breakfast - out of a 10 day stay we managed to sit outside twice. Service was extremely slow and poor, we had multiple occasions where incorrect coffees and food was brought to us which then led to further delays. On one occasion the incorrect pancakes were brought to us, we advised the waiter that they were wrong and his response was “do you want these instead?” Not acceptable!
  • Lunch - this has to be by far the worst! Not enough staff, service was EXTREMELY slow and poor! Waiting around 2 hours for some nachos to come out is not acceptable and this was almost every day! Waiting times were absolutely ridiculous! We was given condiments that had already been used. My wife is currently 7 months pregnant and had a burger come out pink which had to be sent back. We had a chicken club sandwich come out with no chicken in it. Some days we asked for food to be told it wasn’t available such as scallops. We complained to the lunch staff to just be told “it’s busy”.
  • Staff at both breakfast and lunch appear extremely fed up and have a bad attitude.
  • Pool service was almost non existent. We would have to try and search for a waiter to take a drink order or approach the bar ourselves that was totally unapproachable, they would not even lift their heads to acknowledge us.
  • The pool staff would purposely walk a different route (back through the restaurant) so they did not have to take orders, they all came across extremely lazy and not bothered.
  • When sitting down on the grass area, we didn’t see any pool staff at all!
  • Towels and umbrellas - every day we wanted a towel, we was told they was in the laundry. I do not understand why towels are not washed the night before ready for guests the next morning. This happened every single day! We even saw guests complain about ripped towels provided to them.
  • The umbrella situation is embarrassing. There are no where near enough umbrellas for the guests and to approach the gentlemen putting up the Umbrellas is a task in itself! They clearly could not be bothered and we felt like we were inconveniencing them. One day The gentlemen putting the umbrellas up did not stopped moaning when someone asks for an umbrella to be put up, to the point guests were helping and apologising to him for inconveniencing him?! Walking around with a man bag around him?
  • As mentioned earlier my wife is 7 months pregnant and needed to be in the shade. There were multiple occasions where we requested an umbrella to be told there wasn’t any!
  • Wifi is terrible especially when we are having to use our phones to scan QR codes to look at menus, it never works and we have to request paper menus.
  • Maids - We had multiple occasions where the maid burst into our room. Once whilst I was sitting in the bath and then stood at the door trying to talk to us! Secondly at 11pm to drop off water and thirdly at 8.30am when we was still in bed.
  • Rooftop - again under staffed, pool staff again seemed extremely fed up. Rubbish left around, even bottles floating in the pool.
  • Spa - showers taped off, ceiling falling down.
  • Wet floor sign around the pool was floating around in the pool, guests had to get it out in the end.
  • Unstable tiles around the pool.
  • Cleanliness in reception was poor, glass doors were rotten with hand marks and stairs were covered in dust

This is unacceptable from a supposedly 5* hotel. We paid a lot of money for this hotel and the service/ experience we received was unacceptable. For reference a coke was 5 euros, small water 4.50 euros, cocktails ranging from 14-20 euros!

We will not be returning nor recommending to anyone else!!

Won't be back!!!

Bearing in mind this is supposed to be a five star hotel and is priced in that bracket, it falls very short of meeting even a three star standard!

Booked a suite for three people, arrived to a suite set up for two people, had to ring reception to ask for an additional bed, robe, slippers etc etc - not off to a great start!

Whilst waiting for room to be set up, ventured up to the rooftop bar for drinks and snacks to be told that 'restaurant is closing'. We had just arrived and were hungry, we asked for olives, bread, hummous .... anything but were told 'no'!

On the first morning, after a verrrry slow breakfast, we couldn't find any staff at the pool area to ask for towels - that would be because there aren't any staff dedicated to that outside space...

We found a member of staff carrying a freshly laundered beach towel, we asked him if we could have it and an additional two but were told 'this is not possible', when we asked why, his response 'because they are in the laundry'! Not only were there not enough beach towels but also not enough sunloungers - we were told at reception that 'the hotel has 140 rooms but unfortunatley not enough sunloungers to accomodate'! And don't even think about the beautiful rooftop bar/lounge/pool area - despite it not opening until 11am, it was full before 10am so not a chance of a sunlounger there (I think there are only 6 maximum)!!!

Lunch - a complete joke! We waited 20 minutes to be seated (there were at least 6 available tables)! When we were eventually seated and ordered, we waited 50 minutes for our order (just to paint a picture a very small Ceasar salad is €20 and a miniscule portion of fries is €7) only to receive the wrong order!!!!!! What a waste of an hour! Also, a small water (500ml) is €4.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The wifi is terrible! Breakfast, lunch menu etc are only avialable via scanning a QR code, however because the wifi is so poor, it is almost impossible to access them!

To sum up, this hotel could be good BUT lacks staff! Any staff that are there are verrrry slow and ultimately it lacks the basics such as towels and sun loungers. Considering what they are charging, it definitely does not present any value for money!

We must point out that they did comp us a bottle of cava and a fruit platter to acknowledge their shortfalls however, given what we paid, we would rather have received five star service in line with their very costly room and food rates!
