Nightmare became more manageable by end of the trip...

Review by 447jayk Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The upkeep of the hotel has been significantly below the minimum standards for an stated category hotel.

Key take away is that this hotel creates an negative view on Amari group hotels, wherein previously we had much better experience with the properties in Thailand. Stay at the Galle property at the last phase of our vacation in Sri Lanka has brought down the standards witnessed in other hotels in the country...

Key pointers for the management team to review 1) The basic upkeap of the walkways & corridors ( the pain is pealing out, the furniture is torn out), 2) No covid checks and protocols being followed ( on check in no tempersture screenings were carried out), 3) The reception on checkin had limited room keys, accordingly for one of our rooms the keys could not be provided on the first day, 4) The aircon broke down in one of the rooms on the 1st day in the middle of the night, 5) The room acess cards for the availble keys would not work on check in as we were informed that they have an system issue. 6) One out of the two lifts in our wing broke down on day 2 and no repairs carried out. 7) The PCR tests booked previously, were not booked and the reception staff had no records of our previous request. 8) Intercom not working,. You need to go down to reception to get anything done. 9) Pool and the beach had no lifeguard.

We could see reception full with complaining clients while check in which made us nervous even before check in. And fears came true post check in...

Only silver lining during the stay was Asanka Fernando (Guest Service Manager), on highlighting our concerns took personal interest in resolving the issues to the maximum possible, specifically getting the PCR test organized within the stipulated timelines prior to departure.

Sunny couples break in Galle

Review by KO879 London, United Kingdom

We booked Amari Galle for a couples break in April 2022. There’s a lot happening in Sri Lanka right now but the hotel staff went to great pains ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing time. Nothing was too much trouble...

For a “family” resort the Amari was very calm and well organised. Food was varied and tasty, rooms were comfortable, spotlessly clean and cosy. All staff were absolutely wonderful but special mentions must go to the epic dinner team who made every evening a delight, Muli at Breeze Spa who works magic with her hands (best massage ever!) and Ash on reception who dealt with many of our strange requests (like returning a hotel key we’d accidentally brought with us from Mirissa 🫢) with a smile and amazing efficiency. Thanks Amari, we can’t wait to return.

Horrible experience…poorly trained staff …not safe for ladies

We were a group of three girls who booked a deluxe grand ocean view room. The hotel grounds and view was was beautiful however the staff are poorly trained.
From the minute we checked in to the room we had endless issues...

The room was full of dust and dust smell. Having a severe dust allergy it was a nightmare for me. The room Air conditioner wasn’t working and we had to complain multiple times, the reception refused to give us another room instead made us wait sweating for more than half an hour and sent some maintenance people in to the room (pictures attached). After wasting another half an hour they got the AC to work and we informed the reception it’s working but the room dust /fungus smell was unbearable. Since staying in the room was unpleasant we decided to go out to the pool and on our way back we noticed a hotel maintenance man following us and staring at us since we were in swim wear. He followed us in the lift when we had gone to the wrong floor and again followed us to the room. He also came back at night when we were all by our self in the room and insisted that we open the door for him, however we refused and told him to go away. Dinner was an unpleasant experience as well as the the woman who took our order made a mistake and insisted that we consume the food of wrong order. We complained to the another staff about this unacceptable behaviour. The following day we headed for breakfast and the same maintenance man was following us, he waited till we climbed up on stairs and was trying to look through our dresses which was disgusting. We confronted him finally which we also managed to record for our safety and checked out of the hotel at the same time. This was also reported to the hotel residents manager.

Advise to hotel management train your staff on basics as your staff are ruining the Amari brand. We have stayed at Amari hotels in other countries and have never experienced such horrible experience.

Lovely family holiday.

We stayed at the Amari for 10 nights. It was an amazing stay, the food was excellent, very varied and suited all our tastes. The staff were super friendly and did their best to assist, in particular Nilhan in the restaurant area...

The pool area was very comfortable and tidy. There was at times loud music around the pool but you got used to it. The rooms were a little more dated then we expected and it was very hard to keep the room dry when it was wet outside but these were minor things. Overall a lovely stay!

Nice stay

Review by travelling_em54 London, United Kingdom

We had a good stay at Galle. The hotel pool and surrounding areas are a great place to relax. Breakfast included was a huge amount of options and the rooftop bar was nice in the evening...

We had some issues with cleanliness when we checked in so that did put a slight negative start but the staff did resolve it quickly. The location is good if you don’t necessarily want to be in the thick of it. Eg walking distance to restaurants and shops.
