The fountain-head of American independence reveals an unforgettable scenery of smoky mountains masked by forests ablaze in the autumn, sandy peninsulas fringed by sparkling shorelines and a mesh of mega-cities home to iconic landmarks and endless possibilities.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: UK to Hyannis

Depart London on your scheduled flight to Boston where you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel in the town of Hyannis.

Day 2: Martha's Vineyard

This morning embark on a ferry trip to Martha's Vineyard for a half day guided tour. Located off the shores of Cape Cod, New England's largest island is a patchwork of rolling hills concealed by endless vineyards. A number of treasures await including the picture-postcard gingerbread cottages at Wesleyan Grove, the beautifully manicured gardens of Edgartown gardens, the USA's oldest carousel at Oaks Bluffs and the 100 year-old stone lighthouse which crowns the mighty Aquinnah cliffs.

Day 3: Hyannis to North Conway

Begin today at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, a celebration of America's 35th president with displays of fascinating mementos alongside video exhibits offering a window into Kennedy's days spent on his beloved Cape Cod. After your visit, travel to the historic city of Boston for a fascinating half day city tour.

Day 4: North Conway

Discover the natural splendours of New Hampshire on your full day tour of the White Mountains, home to yawning gorges, rugged mountainsides leading to spectacular sheer drops and surges of magnificent waterfalls. From the pine-coated bowl of Franconia Notch, ascend the mountain by tramway to the summit for magnificent far-reaching views that stretch to Canada. Later today, return to your hotel in North Conway for a well-deserved rest.

Day 5: North Conway to Rutland

Depart North Conway for Vermont's capital - Montpelier. Visit the Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks for an intriguing insight and sampling of delicious syrup harvested from 3000 maple trees. The farm also hosts a theatre constructed of sugar wood, along with captivating works of folk art carved by Burr Morse, head of America's oldest maple family. Following your visit, continue to the town of Rutland.

Day 6: Rutland

This morning, enjoy a scenic cruise upon Lake Champlain. Located on the US-Canadian border, this mighty azure expanse boasts miles of picturesque shoreline under the imposing gaze of Vermont's Green Mountain range. Later visit the Ben & Jerry's Factory to observe a concoction of wild ice creams and savour a heavenly combination of over 27 delicious flavours.

Day 7: Rutland to UK

From Michaels Kittredge's childhood creation of cheap Christmas presents, to the world's largest candle retailer, your morning tour of Yankee Candle's flagship store in Deerfield provides both a fascinating and aromatic insight into candle making. From here continue to the airport in Boston for your flight back to the UK.

Important Information

Visas

A visa is not required for entry into the USA for UK passport holders. You will need a tourist card which you can get on arrival by completing an immigration form provided either on the flight or on arrival at the airport. You will need to obtain an ESTA visa This must be applied for at least 7 days before you are due to land in the USA. Please advise if you would like us to arrange this for you. All UK passport holders must have a Bio-metric ePassport and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you are expected to arrive back in the UK. Important note: if you do not have a Bio-metric ePassport, you will be refused entry into the USA. We work closely with The Travel Visa Company who will be who will be able to arrange the ESTA visa on your behalf. Please call them on 01270 250590 and quote 'Mercury Holidays'. The cost of the visa is approximately £25. If you wish to apply for the visa yourself, you can do so online by visiting the website. Further advice should be sought from the applicable tourist authority for other nationalities and for general queries. We strongly advise you to check with your destinations' Tourist Board or Embassy for the most up-to-date guidelines regarding required passport validity.

Insurance

You must obtain suitable travel insurance prior to departure. Mercury Holidays is partnered with Holiday Extras which offer insurance at the following prices:

Please ensure you provide us with the name of your insurer, policy number and their 24 hour emergency contact number as soon as possible. Mercury Holidays will not be liable for any costs incurred by you due to your failure to take out suitable travel insurance from the date of booking.

Payment

If booking more than 10 weeks before departure a deposit of £250pp will need to be paid at the time of booking with the full amount payable at 10 weeks prior to departure. The deposit applies to adults and children. If you are within 10 weeks of travel then the full balance of the holiday will be payable.

Health and Vaccinations

It is your responsibility to check any health and vaccination requirements applicable to your booked arrangements. We can only provide general information about this. Health and hygiene facilities and disease risks vary from country to country. You should take health advice about your own needs as early as possible and in good time before your departure. Sources of information include; www.fco.gov.uk, http://travelhealthpro.org.uk/, www.hpa.org.uk, your General Practitioner or a specialist clinic.

Physical Accessibility

This tour is accessible to most people with an average level of fitness and normal mobility. It involves moderate days of walking on uneven paths and small hills, and getting on and off coaches. This tour is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.

Group Size

The minimum number of passengers on your tour will be 20, and the maximum number of passengers will be 40. If in the unlikely event your tour does not reach the minimum passenger numbers then you may be asked to change to a different date. A full refund will be made available to you should this alternative not be suitable.

Tour Guide

This is an escorted tour, meaning that you will have the services of a Tour Manager ensuring that you have first-hand knowledge at all times.

Currency Information

The currency in America is the US Dollar (US$). We recommend that you exchange you currency before you leave the UK, however cash machines are available in all the major cities to withdraw money in the local currency.

Personal Expenses

You will need to take some extra money with you to cover any dinners where these are not mentioned on your itinerary and personal purchases, such as souvenirs, extra drinks and snacks. Approximately £300-£350 per person should be sufficient for the duration of your tour. Please also bear in mind that there will be several shopping opportunities throughout your tour. Tipping is common practice in America. It is customary to tip your guides and driver, please allow approx. $3-$5 per person for the guide and $3-$4 per person per day for the driver. All tips will be collected by your tour director on the last day. Tipping at restaurants, hotel staff etc is discretionary.
