Experience mouth-watering food at one of the local hawker centres or splash out at one of many stylish shops and treat yourself to a Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles Hotel. However, Singapore is not all about shopping and eating. Minutes away from the centre you can find outdoor activities, a contemporary art scene as well as sparkling reservoirs and green forests - the 'Lion City' will not disappoint.

Day 1: UK to Yangon

Depart London on your scheduled overnight flight to Yangon.

    Day 2: Yangon

    Upon arrival on day two visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, Southeast Asia's most stunning spiritual monument.

    Today enjoy a full day city tour of Yangon, a city of market lined streets defined by a skyline of high-rises, towering Buddhist pagodas and evocative colonial architecture where a strong British presence can still be felt.

    Day 4: Yangon to Bagan

    Take a flight to Bagan and visit the busy Nyaung Oo market where locals gather to sell traditional goods. Continue to the Wetkyi-in Gubyakgyi cave to observe the frescoes and rare ancient paintings before visiting the Ananda temple. This evening enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Bagan landscape.

    Day 5: Bagan to Mt. Tantgyi

    In the morning, head to your ship in Bagan and begin sailing to the domineering peek of Mount Tantgyi. Disembark at the riverbank and ascend the mountain for incredible views beside the golden pagoda which crowns Tantgyi. Return to the boat for an evening on board at leisure.

    Day 6: Mt. Tantgyi to Yandabo

    Begin today with a scenic cruise along Ayeyarwady River to Yandabo Village. Witness the unique crafting of terracotta pots, which are covered in straw and set ablaze for a period of three days.

    Day 7: Yandabo to Ava

    En route to Mandalay, stop at the ancient Burmese capital of Inwa to enjoy a tour of this metropolis' former grandeur including the Bagaya Kyaung monastery.

    Day 8: Ava to Mandalay

    Following breakfast, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Sagaing and it's stupa-topped hillocks before continuing your cruise to Mandalay where you will disembark. In the afternoon, ascend Mandalay Hill for panoramic vistas of the city.

    Day 9: Mandalay

    Journeying to Burma's religious centre of Buddhism, you will visit Mandalay Palace, the residence of the last Burmese Monarchy. A stop in Amarapura reveals the famous U-Bein bridge, the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world before returning to Mandalay for an evening at leisure.

    Day 10: Mandalay to Inle Lake

    Fly to Heho and board a boat to reach your hotel before visiting Paw Khon village to observe the locals silk weaving and creating their handicrafts. Located in the heart of the Shan Plateau, the stunning Inle Lake is home to the indigenous Intha people, renowned for their unique 'leg rowing' of traditional boats.

    Day 11: Inle Lake

    Today explore the Indein villages on the mainland with bamboo and teak stilted houses and pagodas dating back to the 17th century. On the way back to the hotel a stop will be made at a silver workshop to see beautiful jewellery made from silver ore.

    Following breakfast, fly to Yangon and onto your return flight back to the UK.

    Day 13: Inle Lake to Singapore

    After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Singapore via Yangon. Upon arrival transfer to your chosen hotel, rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Lunch and dinner will always be taken at local restaurants except from the nights you are in Inle Lake where dinner will be at your hotel. During your cruise breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served on board. Meals are a mixture of local Burmese, Chinese and Thai Cuisines.

    Important Information

    Visas

    UK passport holders are currently required to obtain a visa prior to travel. We work closely with The Travel Visa Company who will be able to arrange the visa on your behalf. Please call them on 01270 250 590 and quote 'Mercury Holidays'. The cost of the visa is approximately £65 and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to leave Burma. Alternatively, if you wish to apply for your visa online, please visit myanmarvisa.com/evisa. We recommend that you allow one month for an online visa to be processed. This will cost you USD $50. Further visa advice should be sought from the applicable tourist authority for other nationalities and for general queries. We strongly advise you to check with your destinations' Tourist Board or Embassy for the most up-to-date guidelines regarding required passport validity.

    Insurance

    You must obtain suitable travel insurance prior to departure. Mercury Direct is partnered with Holiday Extras which offer insurance at the following prices:

    Payment

    If booking more than 10 weeks before departure a deposit of £250pp will need to be paid at the time of booking with the full amount payable at 10 weeks prior to departure. The deposit applies to adults and children. If you are within 10 weeks of travel then the full balance of the holiday will be payable.

    Health and Vaccinations

    We recommend that you consult your local GP for advice on vaccinations and travel health before your departure.

    Physical Accessibility

    This tour is accessible to most people with an average level of fitness and normal mobility. It involves full days of sightseeing, often on foot and includes some climbing of stairs and getting on and off coaches and boats. This tour is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.

    Group Size

    The minimum number of travellers in your group will be 12 and the maximum number of passengers on your cruise will be 48. If in the unlikely event there are less than 12 people booked on your tour date then you may be asked to change to a different date. A full refund will be made available to you should this alternative not be suitable.

    Tour Guide

    This is a fully escorted tour, meaning that you will be met on arrival at each destination and will have a regional guide with you during your stay in each place. There will be five separate guides in total (Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay & Inle Lake) including one English speaking guide on your cruise ensuring that you have first-hand knowledge at all times.

    Currency Information

    The currency in Singapore is the Singapore Dollar you can buy currency before you leave the UK or in Singapore from currency exchanges or ATMs.

    Personal Expenses

    You will need to take money with you to cover any personal purchases such as souvenirs, laundry and extra drinks and snacks. Approximately £200 will be sufficient for the durations of the tour, depending on how much of a bargain-hunter you are!
