UK passport holders are currently required to obtain a visa prior to travel. We work closely with The Travel Visa Company who will be able to arrange the visa on your behalf. Please call them on 01270 250 590 and quote 'Mercury Holidays'. The cost of the visa is approximately £65 and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to leave Burma. Alternatively, if you wish to apply for your visa online, please visit myanmarvisa.com/evisa. We recommend that you allow one month for an online visa to be processed. This will cost you USD $50. Further visa advice should be sought from the applicable tourist authority for other nationalities and for general queries. We strongly advise you to check with your destinations' Tourist Board or Embassy for the most up-to-date guidelines regarding required passport validity.

The local currency in Burma is the Burmese Kyat (pronounced Chat) or MMK. The Kyat is a closed currency and cannot be brought in or out of Burma. We suggest that you take United States Dollars (USD) with you which can either be used directly as currency in most locations or changed into Burmese Kyat at the Yangon Airport. Please note that US dollars used must be notes issued post 2006 in pristine condition. Burma is a cash-only economy and apart from a few exceptions the local cash machines do not accept international cards. Most hotels, restaurants and shops will only accept cash (US Dollars or Kyat) as well. Credit cards and travellers cheques are not accepted as forms of payment. Therefore, it is very important that you budget carefully and ensure you have the right form of currency before you arrive in the country, so please ensure you bring enough cash in US Dollars with you for the duration of your trip.
You will need to take money with you to cover any personal purchases such as souvenirs, laundry and extra drinks and snacks. Approximately £200 will be sufficient for the durations of the tour, depending on how much of a bargain-hunter you are!
