With some of the most unique and iconic scenery in the Mediterranean, film makers have been visiting the island for years to get the perfect back drop to match their stories. From the Da Vinci code to Game of Thrones some of the biggest films and TV shows produces in the last decade have made use of Malta, below are some of my favourites, can you recognise the island when you watch them next?<\/p>\n

World War Z<\/h2>\n

Valletta <\/strong>The\u00a0hit blockbuster, directed by Marc Foster, stars Brad Pitt as a United Nations Employee in a race against time to stop a pandemic which is sweeping the globe. Malta\u2019s capital Valletta was one of the many locations used during filming and features in some of the film\u2019s most action packed scenes.<\/p>\n

Game of Thrones<\/h2>\n

Dwejra Gozo, The Xara Palace Relais & Ch\u00e2teaux in Mdina and Valletta. <\/strong>HBO\u2019s landmark series which follows the internal politics and scheming between the ruling houses of Westeros has become a worldwide phenomenon with a 4th season on the way next year. Back in season 1 locations in Malta including M\u2019dina and the Azure Window in Gozo were used as the backdrop for King\u2019s Landing.<\/p>\n

Gladiator<\/h2>\n

Fort Ricasoli,\u00a0Couvre Port & Vittoriosa. <\/strong>Ridley Scott\u2019s Roman epic staring Russell Crowe was one of the largest films of the early noughties. Fort Ricasoli, part of Malta\u2019s Grand Harbour was used as the location to construct the vast sets required for the scenes within Rome including the famous Coliseum battles.<\/p>\n

Troy<\/h2>\n

Fort Ricasoli, Golden Bay, Mellieha & Blue Lagoon, Comino.<\/strong> World War Z is by no means the first time a film starring Brad Pitt has featured Malta as a backdrop, back in 2002 the adaptation of Homer\u2019s great epic extensively used locations around the Maltese islands as the setting for the city of Troy, including the Blue Lagoon in Comino and Golden Bay.<\/p>\n
