Fantastic hotel, staff very polite and friendly. Food in the dine around restaurants superb. Had a lovely break, everything ran very smoothly.
The Fortina was excellent. We were upgraded to a de-luxe garden view room which was huge! The service at reception was extremely helpful, and booking a table at the various restaurants, within the dine around option, was simplicity itself. The food, especially in Table 1 was very (very!) good. The only word of warning I would issue, is that if by any chance any of your party is coeliac- gluten intolerant- be careful at Il Giardino, the Italian restaurant. Although they do pizzas with a gluten free base, somehow they must have become contaminated, because she was quite ill for a short while afterwards. There was plenty of room around the pool(s) with more than enough loungers. I suppose fault can always be found if one looks hard enough for it. Quite frankly however,I thought the whole experience lived up to and exceeded our expectations. In all honesty, if anyone is thinking about booking the Fortina, I would advise you to go for it. I don't think you will regret it. I' m not a person who normally eulogises about anything really, but I have to say this holiday was a most enjoyable week.

My daughter & I had a lovely holiday. Jonathan our Mercury rep & Collette (assistant Manager) were excellent and went out of their way to get us booked into the garden restaurants. The spa treatments were excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned to a very high standard each day. I would not hesitate in recommending Mercury Travel to my family & friends.
We particularly enjoyed the buffet-style restaurant (La Vallette) where the food was varied and of a high standard. The restaurant was very clean and well organised. The chefs were very accommodating and professional. All reception staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The cleaners were hard-working and thorough. We felt comfortable and welcome in the hotel. Excellent value for money.
The hotel was excellent apart from one unfortunate experience we had with the dine around when we we went with friends from the hotel to the Chinese/Thai restaurant. The waiter was extremely rude and condescending because we were 4 star, not 5 star. The service was , quite frankly appalling! We were booked for 7 30 and we waited and waited to be served. We finally left the restaurant at gone 10 o clock. And the waiter who was so rude refused to give us his name. The food when it came was good ,but we have never experienced anything like this standard of service in our lives and we have holidayed all over the world! Other than this, all the hotel staff were lovely, friendly, helpful and polite!

Met all expectations - lovely setting. Disappointing on dine-around that the pizza restaurant remained closed throughout - despite being told by reception each day that it would open 'the next day'. Japanese restaurant was dull and noticeably less popular than others. Mediterranean restaurant was particularly good in quality and service. Free Thallasso and Spa sessions were hugely enjoyable, Mercury brochure should make clearer the respective views from 'garden' and 'sea' sides. Timeshare operation was annoying and from comments on Tripadvisor has been a frustration to guests for a long time
Seemed a bit pre season with not everything available & sitting out areas still being painted. We were disappointed that although our room had a superb view it had no balcony from which to really enjoy it.
Very good facilities and excellent location. Was disappointed with two of the restaurants in the dine around programme. The selection and quality of food in the Indian was poor as was the service. The food in the Japanese restaurant was poor on the half board menu. Have stayed in this hotel before and believe the menu in the dine around facility has deteriorated. On a positive note Table One restaurant remains very good.

This was my wife and my 4th successive visit with Mercury to the 4-star Fortina and the best stay yet. Our deluxe twin bed garden room number 328 was perfect for us, very quiet. I trust if we book again for 2017 we can request the same room again. As usual your on site representative Jonathan provided excellent advice and help. The service at the 'dine around' Japanese restaurant improved dramatically from our experience in 2015.
Our tenth visit to the Fortina and excellent standards are still being maintained. Catering staff did a magnificent themed spread for St Patrick's Day which we really appreciated.

Table 1 and Chinese restaurants made a nice change having waiter service but we think the great choice on the buffet is the real winner.

Bathroom floor very dangerous when wet.
Staff very helpful.minor defects in bathroom and carpet was dirty which we found out when we walked bear foot. Didn't like harassment by timeshare agents in the hotel which a lot of guests complained about.
Room was a good size and had a beautiful view across to Valletta. Choice of food was good.
This was our 5th visit to the Fortina and we felt that the hotel was looking a bit jaded and in need of face lift. We upgraded to a sea view room and got a superior sea view...thank you.......but it left a lot to be desired to be called a superior room, the chair arms lifted every time you held them....only one chair in the room for two people, and the bathroom was decidedly gloomy and small, the bath was chipped in three places.
Having got my grumbles out of the way, we once again thought the hotel was great and always recommend it to our friends who have used the hotel on several occasions. Reception and dining room staff were lovely, as always. We will certainly come again, it is our winter get away and we always love it.

We booked a garden room but were given a sea view room with sunny balcony. So although a small room we were pleased. Housekeeping, reception were all excellent. food was good. The mediterrean restaurant had the best service and food. the Thai/chinese had excellent food but service a little chaotic. The main buffet had good service and a good choice of food.
Regrettably one restaurant advertised had closed, and a second, the Indian, served very poor standard food, offered no suitable vegetarian options, and had very poor service.
There was some entertainment at the hotel, and that pleased us as we were told that it was almost non-existent at this hotel.
Lots of food variety - I enjoyed the soups the most!
Bedroom.. we found that the staff did not have enough time to deal with the room ..it generally looked untidy, and unkempt. The ladies tried to do their best, but I think there was not enough time to do a 'good' .job.

The Dine Around facility makes this hotel an attractive proposition. However instead of treating such diners as 2nd class citizens with limited choice menus why not let us choose from the full menu and pay the difference between the bill and the allowance amount. We ate in the Chinese on 3 occasions in 21 days and had Menu A on all 3 occasions.
We stayed at this hotel two years ago and at that time it was excellent. We were supposed to be upgraded to a Superior Seaview but in our opinion it was not. The room was adequate but the bathroom was extremely small and was certainly in need of refurbishment. The food in restaurant was adequate but not exceptional. The room we stayed in was 205 and I would appreciate your view whether you thought that it was Superior.
The Italian restaurant had a very poor choice available. The main course HAD to be a pizza. Disappointing compared to the other restaurants which were of a different standard altogether.
First class all round and we will definitely come again. Ideal location and close to bus stops and the Valletta ferry. Excellent value.
Very congested dining room at times, particularly breakfast; staff slow at clearing used dishes. Salad bar basic and repetitious, limited choices, ie always sliced processed ham as meat choice.
Dinner hot food choices were good. Indian restaurant in dine around option served a very limited choice from fixed menu, possibly worst Indian meal anywhere, ever (ie fragments of onion bajee starter on bed of shredded white cabbage? Far from an authentic starter. Four malteser sized balls of minced lamb in lots of thin sauce with boiled rice as main course). Paltry ice-cream dessert.
Spacious bedroom on 5th floor excellent with rear views over garden area, cool in unexpectedly hot spell in December. Plenty of clean towels and excellent housekeeping staff.
Excellent service and food couldn't have got better value
arrived at hotel at 11.30 was told by reception come back at 14.00pm rooms not ready on the 14th December my fleece jacket was taken out of my room I complained to reception they was not interested asked to see hotel manager he checked to see who had been in room only the cleaners he then went on to say prove it was stolen from your room in other words not interested I am not very happy with this also I was pestered by a representive of the hotel for timeshare see below

La Valletta Restaurant is in fact a refectory, and very noisy. Table 1 restaurant excellent.
The single room i had was unbearably warm and they would not switch the air con on. Overall still a decent hotel.
During our stay they closed the lounge & cocktail
Bar on the morning it was closed.we were advised to use the fortina spa. On receiving our final bill we were surprised to find we were charge 2 euros

Booked a sea view room but given a garden view room and upgraded to "wellness" room. Did not use wellness equipment but very much appreciated the larger room. Did miss sea views though.

Difficulty in booking some restaurants and sauna, had to persuade hotel staff to help to avoid returning to front desk every hour.

Your advertisement indicated a number of restaurants to choose from within the hotel facility. It also said that advance booking was advisable, but not days in advance as our experience found. As a result in practice our choice was extremely limited.

We asked for a high up sea view room and were delighted to get exactly what we had requested.
Good location with easy access to all shops and other facilities for day trip. The hotel is clean , comfortable and provides good selection of tasty food.
We had a very nice sea facing room, it was quite small but clean and had everything we needed. We would definitely go back.

Another enjoyable stay at the Fortina four star. We were delighted to be allocated the room we had requested. Jonathan was as usual most informative and helpful. On the negative side were disappointed in the change of policy re television programmes, now having to pay extra for programmes that were previously free!We also felt the Spa area was not up to previous standards with poor maintenance.

This is our 5th time at the Fortina over the years and again it was great, this time we shared our holiday with 4 friends,( 2 of them stayed in the 5 star) it was their first time at the Fortina and they agreed with us that it is first rate
View from our room 611 a superior sea view was wonderful and room was kept well maintained and very clean. Standard of food varied between average and excellent, breakfast menu was repetitive and although fine for a 2 week break would be boring for a protracted stay.
We were upgraded to a suite overlooking the water and Valletta which gave us an amazing view and a lounge for the 4 of us to socialise.
We had all been to this hotel before and it was my 4th trip - all with Mercury Direct.
The restaurants ranged from poor quality(Japanese and Italian)to excellent(Can Thai) and also La Vallette and Table 1 were always a good choice.
The Spa was a very pleasant experience with friendly staff and a choice of experiences.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely area, i think its one of the nicer .resorts in Malta, the food was excellent and the hotel staff was friendly and helpfull.
First week we had a very basic room. The wardrobe was very small to put 2 people clothes, also the air-condition was very noisy. The second week we requested that we wanted to be moved to another room .My husband had a slip disc, and was suffering from sciatica, there was no proper chair for him to sit only a small round stool. It was very uncomfortable sitting on it. The second room they gave was much better, in every respect. We are thinking of going for Christmas week .My husband said he won't be going if we get a twin bed again, only a double bed will do.
We return to fortina spa around every 2 years because it is an excellent place to stay [see above] The new gym is amazing, food in dine around is of excellent quality and reception staff go out of their way to be helpful.

Unreasonable to price fiesta excursion at €23 when in hotel was €16. It was really only worth price of bus fair. Pick up for Malta extravaganza 1 hour late.
Can't comment on tours too much as frequent visitors to Malta, tend to do our own thing. Only change to holiday would be perhaps to do B&B to allow us more freedom. Would have been convenient to fly from East Midlands by Air Malta but no flights.
Mercury rep was very helpful first day - all went well and we did not need his services again. Taxi to and from airport spot on. Day trip to Gozo was excellent.
I fell over and the staff didnt care until i wrote to the hotel manager and got satisfactory treatment.

3things went wrong which were certainly within control of the hotel and yourselves.
1. despite email confirmation from the fortina that room 320 would be allocated to us for 3 weeks we were asked to move to 702 seaview because of refurblishment on our last week.
2. restaurant tigne was closed whilst we were there for the 3 weeks because of refurblishments.
3. the fitness centre was closed for the duration of our stay because of refurblishments.

we assume all 3 refurblishments were scheduled well in advance of our arrival and as such should have been advised, we would have delayed our holiday with you unitl merch/april paying a little more.
given the cost of the holiday we are a little disapointed and as such think a small gesture of goodwill from yourselves would be appropriate - perhaps a small discount against a future holiday. this is the second time we have booked with you. we look foward to your prompt response
The hotel lifts were apalling and dangerous. We were stuck between floors in the lift for 10 minutes and they frequently didn't work There was no stairway access to the 8th floor and no stairway access to the ground floor reception.

Excellent Hotel- 1st class air conditioning and views from room. Only criticism not allowed into room until 14:30 on arrival, after 06:30 flight

Interested in all destinations. The Thallaso area changing rooms need serious work done, very dirty and ceilings missing. Apart from that everything was good and we enjoyed spa treatments and the restauramt choice was excellent.
Negotiate with carrier/ Tourism Office extra weight on return flight.
