Valetta isn't just Malta's capital, but a UNESCO world heritage site. It's a window on a world of history and culture, it's the ideal starting point for an idyllic and deeply satisfying holiday experience. Given all of that, why would you entrust your accommodation to anything but the best that the region has to offer?
The five star Grand Hotel Excelsior with its prestigious location (just a couple of minutes walk from the gates of Valetta) and its astonishing views across Marsamxett Harbour and Manoel Island is as much a draw as Valetta itself.
Guests of the Grand Hotel Excelsior are treated to the best of everything: wonderfully comfortable, tastefully appointed rooms, exemplary spa and leisure facilities, and renowned cuisine at its Stellar Valletta Restaurant (one of three restaurant choices). This is, in every sense, a five-star facility.
You will find your room comfortably spacious with enough room for a king-sized bed (or twin beds). Deluxe Partial Seaview rooms and Deluxe Seafront rooms are also available at a premium, but each and every room boasts a large, well-equipped bathroom and all sorts of facilities including satellite TV with additional paid channels, as well as a mini bar, direct dial phone and tea and coffee making facilities.
Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the hotel, and reassuringly, reception is manned twenty-four hours a day. As you would expect from a hotel of this quality, nothing is too much trouble for the staff to ensure your comfortable stay. You can take your pick of the indoor and outdoor pools, we'd certainly recommend a visit to the hotel beauty centre too.
Rich in the history of Malta, Valetta is a fascinating holiday destination. And when you stay at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, you're perfectly placed to make the most of the experience. Revel in the trip and make the most of the magical experience.

We were B & B and only ate breakfast in the hotel. There was an excellent choice of food available to a high standard. Our only quibble was that the cooked English breakfast from the buffet was invariably lukewarm or cold. Although the plates were in a warmer, they too were lukewarm or cold which didn't help the situation. I am sure that with a little thought this could be improved.
This is the 3 rd time we have been to this hotel and we like the relaxed and quiet atmosphere but if one were looking for evening entertainment then this would not be suitable!
I wish to add that the Grand Hotel Excelsior is well run by an exceptional manager and staff. The staff are well dressed in their uniforms and always have a smile on there face when they greet you. Always most helpful.
The food was out of this world. Can't praise it high enough. Staff professional but very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Always greeted with a smile. Did a special table for us with cake and candles for our wedding anniversary as a surprise.
Everything went like clockwork
The hotel surpassed our expectations. The staff were hard working, welcoming and friendly. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The food is excellent, we even had a guitarist at breakfast on our last day, who was very accomplished. The New Years Eve buffet event was very enjoyable and again everything was spot on. They even had two minutes of fireworks from the Hotel grounds. Our room, 314 had magnificent views over the hotels marina. Loved the hotel and yes, we will be back. As for Valletta, what a secret gem! The fortifications, the restaurants, the museums, the cafes etc. All was stunning. The Best New Years Eve we've had. Thankyou!
Everything was perfect. How many times can one say that about a holiday?
Room make-up was late on a few days and one day we had to ring after 3pm. The steps up into town were impossible for my wife and we used taxis to get out. Pity because an easy ramp could be incorporated around the edge of the beautiful landscaping. Staff and food brilliant. We would not use again because of the climb out. A more regular shuttle or one on demand would change our view.
Lovely hotel very kind staff
Gave us lovely anniversary bottle of bubbly and cake, very kind thought.
Couldn't of asked for more, excellent. Yoga lesson at the hotel was fantastic, we will return
A great vacinity, wonderful food and views across the bay with lots of sailing boats. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Valletta city centre and the bus station, with transport to all parts of the island .
Double room for solo traveller, so plenty of space. Balcony aided the view but it could not be described as a partial sea-view as the sea was impossible to see from this and other rooms on this side of the wing, but the view of Marsamxett Harbour was very pleasant. Housekeeping excellent, staff friendly and helpful, surroundings gave a feeling of luxury. Quiet, aided by being in term-time so no noisy children! Food excellent and room service good, though could be understandably slow at popular times.
As usual this hotel was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The hotel managed to get us a room on the 9th floor with the large balcony overlooking Manoel Island as we had on our last visit. Staying here makes for a really relaxing holiday. Good food, great location and superb staff.
A good spot with easy access to Valletta, unless you have mobility difficulties, as there are lots of steps out of the hotel.
Excellent range of food and facilities with indoor and outdoor pools.
Lovely views out of lounges and restaurants, overlooking Manoel Island and boats coming in and out of the bay.
We had a garden view bedroom which was equally pleasing.
Only place to stay in Malta even better than the Hilton in my opinion
An excellent hotel and I would definitely stay there again. The car service the hotel ran was excellent. We used the shuttle bus most evenings to go into Valletta for our evening meal. Very useful after a day of activity to be driven to the city gate instead of climbing the hill. We also did one trip with the hotel transport for a day. Excellent driver who tailor made the day to our needs and was very informative about the places we visited.
Good hotel. Very good service when booking the holiday on the phone and prompt despatch of all documents.
The staff very pleasant and the maid service in the rooms was excellent.
First class Hotel with every facility available. The breakfast choice was exceptional. The staff did everything to help in any situation.
Excellent hotel, well situated. We were so well looked after in every way - housekeeping, poolside, waiters, chefs etc.
Food was fabulous - breakfast was a huge variety.
The international buffets were also very good, with the chefs very willing to chat and help with choice.
The rooms are very well appointed with housekeeping staff very friendly and helpful.
Excellent service my daughter notified them it was my birthday and our wedding anniversary.
I was presented with a fruit platter and sung happy birthday to at breakfast.
A bottle of wine, chocolates and a chocolate dessert were brought to our room along with cards.
It really made it a special day
Hotel has a very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff.
Staff were very helpful, courteous and friendly. The buffet meals were epic and waiters very attentive.
