Best time to visit Sri Lanka

When to go to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka boasts a typically tropical climate, with a noticeable degree of variation between the regions. One constant is undoubtedly the humidity, which remains high all year-round, head towards the coast though and the light sea breeze makes the heat significantly more comfortable, as does heading inland towards mountainous regions that sit at a higher altitude. The northeast monsoon begins in October and lasts until January, while the southeast monsoon arrives in May until September, during this time, expect a greater chance of significant rainfall with the occasional thunderstorm — a refreshing break from the continual humidity. Throughout the year, January typically sees the lowest average temperatures of 20°C, whilst May’s 32°C is undoubtedly the hottest month.
