The hotel was almost perfect. Very clean everywhere, all modern decor which was nice. Good size pool and nice indoor heated pool...
Food always nice, although we only had one evening meal at the hotel but breakfast was always good, good variety. Staff were nice, bar and waiting staff were usually chatty which was nice. Bar by the pool doesn’t take card though so make sure you have cash! Rooms cleaned everyday and always immaculate. Only small complaint is the useless aircon. We asked at reception about this and a maintenance man came up the following morning to look and advised us to keep the card in al day but this made no difference so we had to sleep with the balcony doors open. Wifi largely very good. Perfect location to be able to walk to both the lido and the centre of Funchal. Pool towels and robes also provided which is a nice touch. Definitely recommend.
First time in this hotel, although I have had more than sixty trips to Madeira Island in the last 9 years. Excellent location and the best facilities I've been to and there were some. Rooms with stunning views over the sea and the island and the best breakfast I've ever had in hotels, some even 5 stars...
I just don't give 5 stars, because it has a problem that is difficult to solve, parking, it's really the negative point of these hotel facilities. With very few spaces available, due to the pillars, it is very difficult to maneuver and park in most places available for this purpose. But I must say, whenever I can, on my frequent trips to Madeira, I will stay here and highly recommend it.
Nice hotel and the friendliest staff I have seen in all my travels. In fact the Island is very friendly The hotel staff go out of their way to help and. It was a pleasure to have met them. The hotel is in a good location although it is on a hill, but everywhere in Funchal is on a hill There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants near by and a lovely patisserie We were half board and the food was good with lots of choice and variety...
My only comment is the shared tongs and spoons for the buffet is an issue during COVID times as everyone is touching the same implements. We had plastic gloves with us and used these every time and I would say that’s my one top tip. The room was a good size and very clean and well serviced. We brought a travel kettle as there isn’t tea or coffee making facilities in the room Good pool and lots of sun beds I would definitely go back
What can i say!! Superb!! Amazing!! Great food!!! spotlessly clean rooms!!! Perfect location!!! Beautiful views from the balcony!!! but the best thing about this hotel is the staff!!!! Every single one of them from the managers, reception staff, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners, gardeners, etc are an absolute credit to your hotel, they go out of their way to help in anyway they can to make your holiday that extra bit special, but my special thank you goes to johnny and the team behind the bar (i'm sorry i can't remember your names) on our last day we received some devastating news from home in england (our beautiful baby labrador dog became seriously ill whilst in the care of our son and passed away before we could get home to her) myself and my husband were totally distraught but johnny and guys sat with us whilst we cried and kept checking that we were ok, for this i can't thank you enough, that is what i call going above and beyond, you guys are totally fantastic and martin and i thank you from the bottom of our hearts, reviews on hotels are done every day but its the people that work there that make all the difference and we will never ever forget your kindness, thank you xxxx
It is apparently a 4 star hotel, but only just! While the public areas were fine, the rooms, corridors and restaurant were very tired and looked the worse for ware. And in this day and age, internet should be fast and reliable, which this wasn’t. But it was only about $147 AUD a night, so it was value for money...
We did have one of the best rooms in the place – a large corner room on the 4th floor with balcony and views of the sea down below. Being in a corner room also meant a lovely cross breeze with sliding balcony doors open on both sides. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space. Good heat and water pressure in the shower, it was just a little dark as there was no light in the over bath shower whose curtain blocked out the light from the bathroom. The room also had a little bar fridge for our wine and snacks from the corner store, so we were sorted there.
We also found that the majority of the staff, both in reception and in the breakfast room, were not particularly friendly. Admittedly, at busy times at breakfast it can be difficult to keep up with clearing plates and refreshing food on the buffet, but when staff are standing around chatting and not focused on customer service, it is not good for business.
The location of the hotel was good for walking to a lot of restaurants and for shopping. I have given a 'very good' rating for the value for money.
