Lovely place and people

Our family had a great time at Kihaa. The scenery was breath-taking and waters very clear. Being 25 years old, the property was a little dated but comfortable...

What stood out to make the place amazing was the island's human resource. People were warm and welcoming from beginning to the end.

Heartfelt shoutout to all who made our stay memorable: Chamara for his generosity and planning, even sending us off to the seaplane, Akmal for this friendship and positivity, our butler of room 501 who took time to fold animals out of towels, Hameed and Shahim, who helped with trips out to fish or try to see dolphins, our buggy drivers, all in the F&B team including Zaif who served with a brilliant smile, and Bintang for his lovely photos, big hearted personality and great service.

There was also a gentleman in charge of the jetskis whom upon seeing us out at sea in a canoe at the same spot for some time, wheeled the jet ski out with help from a few others to check if we were alright. We were actually taking a break from rowing but were impressed by the staff's vigilance.

The only drawback to the property was being bitten by several mosquitoes, which had an impact on sleep quality.

What has remained with us after returning home are Kihaa's faces, which are the true gems of what made our holiday special. Til we meet again!

A memorable and awesome trip

Review by JustinaHuang8 Singapore, Singapore

Me and my partner had the loveliest 6 days stay at Kihaa Maldives in June 2022. We have not travelled for the last 2+ years and this stay at Kihaa surpassed our expectations. Here’s a breakdown of our experience...

I’ve read through quite a few reviews before we came on this trip so I’ll address some concerns other travellers mentioned too.

Transfer to Kihaa We opted for the Seaplane transfer to shorten the travel time. Upon arrival, the Kihaa representative welcomed us and immediately whisked us away to the seaplane terminal where we waited around an hour to board the plane. For anyone who is taking seaplane for the first time, do note that it is fairly cramp, there’s no aircon until the plane is in the air so it got very stuffy and sweaty while we were waiting for take off. The landing was quite bumpy too. After the plane stopped to disembark some Anantara guests, it was another 5-8 mins flight time to reach Kihaa. We landed on a platform (beware choppy waves here, I nearly got seasick) and a boat promptly picked us up for a 3 mins ride to the resort.

Resort Overall 4.5 / 5 It is exactly as they’ve advertised on their website. Kihaa is a lovely island near the Hanifaru Bay. The main areas of the resort (pool, restaurants, bar, etc) are fairly well-maintained. It is an island afterall and they utilise many wood features in their construction so there’s bound to be some wear but it adds character to the place. What we totally love is the constant sea breeze throughout the day.

Room - 4 / 5 We stayed the entire duration of 6 days in the Beach Villa. Our room was in between the main area and the dive centre so it was the perfect location for us. While the wood features in the room (wardrobe, tv cabinet, washroom) are slightly run down, it was clean even for someone with sensitive skin and it was a comfortable stay.

Meals - 4 / 5 We did not have too much expectations after reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor. But we were pleasantly surprised. They have different themes for dinner each day. The Chinese food was average but we liked the Maldivian and Italian theme. The majority of their food are covered in warmers now, the live station is great as ever, and they now serve pizza slices on Italian day which was superb.

People - 5 / 5 Everyone was very welcoming. Rafiqul was assigned as our butler and he never fails to keep a look out for us. Any requests sent to him via WhatsApp was promptly taken care of. Definitely a great chap supported by a strong team of lovely people.

At the restaurant, we interacted well with the live station chef and wait staffs, Pradeep and Seifu. Thanks for adding a human touch to the already lovely place.

Activities - 6 / 5 (this area totally exceeded our expectations) I did my diving open water certification and my partner did a specialty course at Kihaa so we spent quite a lot of our time at the home reef and surrounding dive sites. Our instructors, Gian and Alex, really taught us the ropes proficiently. We snorkeled at the home reef just walking out from shore and saw a good diversity of fishes and even a shark. During the dives, we were brought to the lovely reefs around the area and saw sharks, manta rays, turtles, moray eels, Napolean fish, puffer fish, an octopus, and many lovely fishes. We signed up for the finding Manta Ray snorkelling excursion and managed to tick off an item on our bucket list. Our guide, Arianna, found us a good spot and we were basically swimming with a family of Manta Rays throughout the 45 mins duration. At one point, we counted a total of 15 Mantas around us and they came really really close. One even accidentally bumped slightly into my partner. This was indeed an experience of a lifetime.

If diving and snorkelling is not your thing, there are still various sea sports available. They are quite pricey though. I was tempted to take a jet ski ride but it cost USD 80 for 15 mins. There was a pool table in one of the bar and it’s free. We spend an hour or so there each day. The swimming pools were great and I love how they have many swings scattered around the main areas. They are the perfect place to lounge, sway around, and enjoy the breeze and vast ocean. The Kihaa team plans daily fish feeding (sharks and sting rays) at the Jetty, you will totally enjoy this. We joined the cocktail party during one of the fish feeding session and canapés, cocktails, mocktails, and shoulder massage very provided free. Woot!! I would rate the activities here as 10 / 5 if that’s allowed.

Birthday Surprise The Kihaa team noticed that my birthday overlapped with our stay. They then planned a small surprise with cake and birthday song singing at the restaurant. Our ever helpful butler, Rafiqul, then drove us back to the room using a buggy and on our bed is a lovely birthday wish made out of towel animals, leaves, and flowers. This marked the perfect end to an awesome trip!

Big thank you to the team at Kihaa for making this the most memorable trip for both me and my partner!

The Kihaa Maldives Resort, quite a distance from the US, but well worth the visit

We are living in such a stressful time that we wanted to escape to somewhere special, and luckily our choice was a success. Kihaa Resort resides on an extremely beautiful island with exotic foliage, white sand beach, crystal waters. All the staff were exceptionally nice, especially helpful was Noble...

He definitely is an asset to the resort with his follow through and proactive assistance. Our dining was basically at the resort’s Malaafaiy Restaurant, as we had upgraded to half board ; otherwise, a la carte is available, but very expensive. Our meals were varied with numerous choices. Here, as well, the staff were warmly welcoming. Ismail and Pradeep were assigned to service our table and there was always a smile to start our day or end our evening. We were in a chalet that had a good vista surrounded by beautiful greenery. The only issue we faced was that our reservation request had been for separate bedding, and the second bed that had been given was their convertible daybed that was not large enough for a normal size adult. This was resolved; however, this should have been handled before our arrival. The important thing is that, we both felt that if the opportunity a arose, we would return to Kihaa. Our vacation was beauty for the soul.
