Very very bad hotel

We were a large family and booked five rooms at Amwaj Oyoun Resort Sharm El Sheikh, but unfortunately, the experience was very bad.

The worst part was the reception. The staff are extremely slow, causing long delays during check-in. The hotel has no elevators at all, only stairs, which makes moving around very difficult, especially for families with strollers or elderly guests.

We requested ground floor rooms, but our request was rejected due to unavailability. We were assigned to a building far away from the restaurant and aqua park. When we asked to move closer, we had to pay an extra fee. Despite that, the process took around 4 hours, during which we had no rooms or even our luggage, as we had already checked out from the old rooms.

The food is not terrible, but the restaurant is overcrowded, service is slow, and there is a noticeable shortage of basic utensils like spoons.

The rooms are outdated and worn out, far below acceptable standards. Also, the number of sunbeds, umbrellas, and chairs is insufficient compared to the number of guests, to the point where you need to reserve them in advance, especially at the aqua park.

In terms of safety, my eldest daughter got a cut on her foot due to broken tiles around the swimming pools, which is very dangerous and reflects poor maintenance. Additionally, the bathrooms near the pools and the beach are not clean, and there seems to be a clear shortage of housekeeping staff in the hotel.

There is no easily accessible drinking water available, and there are no drinks or snacks provided during the aqua park operating hours, which is completely unacceptable, especially in hot weather.

Overall, the hotel is very poor and does not even deserve a one-star rating.

AVOID AT ALL COST

AVOID AT ALL COST!

We have just returned from a 7 night, family of 5 holiday to the Amwaj Oyoun sharm el sheikh. And NEVER again will any of us return. This place is advertised as a 4 star, try 2 star. It is run down and not to standard!

Before arriving and once checking in we made it very clear that one of our family members had just returned home from hospital having had respiratory issues and needing rooms close to the main amenities. Their response, "we can check in the morning. This room is not too far." The room was in the farthest part of the hotel on the 3rd floor! Our family member was in tears on the stairs as she struggled to breathe after being taken up and down stairs and a labyrinth of ways to get there. The room was then a shock to the system to say the least. Dated, dusty and crusty! Not looking like the picture of the room we booked! The lock on the door was broken, the safe was broken, the plug sockets broken. Everytime we flushed the toilet and used the tap there was a leak. Water all over the bathroom floor. The smell was horrendous. Having a child with us, it couldve taken one slip in the bathroom to hurt themselves quite badly. Called reception to complain but again apparently nothing was available until the morning. We tried to get some sleep that night with mosquitos buzzing in our ear! It was a disgrace. In the morning it was very clear they put a certain type of people in that area. Mostly Arab and Asian people were in that area of the hotel. Why? I'm all ears please!

Reception had it all coming in the morning and once everything was explained, in detail with pictures they accepted their fault and offered an upgrade for us, to view the rooms available before we agreed to the change. The new room was a newly refurbished room on the ground floor with a garden view. It was satisfactory to. But why were we put in a room like that in the first place? Why did it need a complaint and extra stress for us to change the room? The best part of the change was our house keeper, Kind hearted and always with a smile on his face, Mustafa. He was one of a very few good ones.

The food was dire. It was extremely repetitive, limited in variety and very basic. Bland and just not good enough. And yes we all got food poisoning and we are still suffering the effects of it. Having spoken with other people, many others also got unwell too. We booked the Egyptian restaurant and seafood restaurant both were just ok, bog standard and both times unfortunately gave us upset tummies. They give 2 water bottles in the room and if you want more you must pay. We realised soon people were refilling in the restaurants so we did this. There were no place for snacks around tea time and if there was by the pool bar, there was never enough and by the time you wanted to get a bite to snack on around 4/5pm its was all gone. So we went hungry most days.

The hotel is extremely tired and needs a lot of money to restore to some standard. There are broken tiles EVERYWHERE. Restaurant, in and around the pool, bathroom everywhere. Be careful not to cut your feet on them.

Hygiene standards needs looking at. The restrooms around the hotel were disgusting. Toilets with poo still in them. No hand wash, no tissue. The list is endless.

The staff are miserable, incompetent with very little customer service. There were a couple of times I would remind them to smile! They're providing a service do it with a smile so i don't feel like an inconvenience. From the chefs. To the bar staff. To waiters even the animation team, miserable- like who is holding a gun to your head?

The gardens are beautiful. If they only took care of the hotel as much as the garden it would probably be acceptable.

Honestly, the hotel is what makes or breaks your holiday and you don't realise how much it affects it untill you experience a bad one. Unfortunately we will not be back there are far too many establishments i would pay my hard earned money to enjoy some relaxing time without worrying I may injure myself or make myself ill.

TripAdvisor Review
Disappointing. Outdated. Much better around.

I’d like to start this by saying that I’ve stayed at quite a few all inclusive resorts across Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia and Hurghada. I’m fully aware with a family, all inclusive can be hit and miss sometimes and “luxury” is often replaced with convenience. Especially with 3, constantly hungry sons. But from start and I’d like to say finish (but I’m actually still staying in the resort for a few more days) this resort has been very poor and I would never consider coming back.

Although I say this, it must be said that the staff have always been friendly and helpful. But the resort itself lets them down as a team. The pictures on “On The Beach” are very misleading. Yes, I did book 2 standard rooms. And the pictures for the standard rooms On The Beach are nothing like the reality. I would give these rooms a 2* rating and thats being generous. Mould in the showers, cracked tiles, furniture looking ready to fall apart and extremely outdated. Again, I’m not expecting 5* Dubai standards when we stay all inclusive. I’m usually the first person when I’m reading reviews to say “what are they expecting etc” but this was a new low of experience. So, as no surprise, I paid for both rooms to be upgraded. It wasn’t a massive amount but for me personally, an unnecessary add on payment in the first place. The new rooms were much better though to be fair. The resort itself it very outdated and run down. The pool is missing tiles, outside areas dirty and just not well maintained. I’ve often seen dirty plates in outside areas left for lengthy periods and life guard and animation teams uniforms clearly very old. With the resorts services themselves, the buffet restaurants are always busy and so small with limited choices that you’re often in 5-10 minute queues to get some food. I’ve been here already for 4 days and in that time, there have been several times that bars have ran out of beer, specific soft drinks and without fail, only ever 1 person serving so again, you’re always waiting a while to be served. There’s one bar near the main pool and it’s always closed a good hour before the pool itself. Most nights we’ve gone out exploring as the entertainment here at the resort isn’t really too entertaining and I’ll be honest, Soho square and the old market are pleasant ways to spend the evening. Again, we do love to get out and about and immerse ourselves in the local cultures and activities but I’ve felt I’ve spent more money than usual already as just a way of getting away from the resort. The downstairs lobby restroom is always smelly and a door has been hanging off one of the cubicles since I arrived. My eldest went to check out the gym, only to return saying most the equipment is faulty or broken.

After reading this back to myself, I am coming across as a bit of a Karen or someone on the moan up but this is my genuine review. I still have 3 more days here so I can only hope things get better but from what I’ve seen the past few days, I highly doubt it.

I would say avoid at all costs but everyone is different and welcome to make up their own minds. But its 100% from myself and family that we will never return.

Love Egypt….Amwaj is not the jewel you’re looking for unfortunately.
