Marrakech

This hotel is located in the city centre, in the Guéliz district and is an ideal point of departure for walks around the city and visits to cultural sites. The medina is 2 kms away and it is 70 kms to Oukaimeden. Marrakech Airport is just 4 kms from the hotel. This hotel is built in style of traditional Moroccan houses and riads and combines this traditional element with convenient facilities for its guests. The lines and warm colours of the hotel interiors mix Zellige Fassi, marble and mosaics and offer a true haven of peace. There is parking available for those arriving by car. At the spa centre guests can enjoy a real traditional Hammam beauty ritual. This city hotel comprises rooms spread over several floors as well as a garden and a terrace.

Maintaining Standards.

Returned to the Diwane after a while away and found many changes all for the good. They have managed to maintain their usual high standard of cleanliness and the staff are as pleasant and helpful as they always were. In fact it is the staff that make this the hotel it is. I opted for one of the renovated rooms which was wonderful.
The poolside bar seems very popular. I can recommend this hotel with complete confidence.

Absolutely not 4 stars

I will start from the good ones:

  • very nice swimming pool
  • amazing cleaners

-good location And this is it I’m afraid

  • most rooms very dated, there were new rooms but we were not given a new room we asked to change rooms but we just got given the same looking room.
  • breakfast really poor, always something missing like one day I didn’t see mint tea other day lack of fruits, guys that where making omelettes for example did not starting until 7:30 and I think it depends what time they get to work( breakfast is open from 6.30)
  • Pastry 🥐 rolling over to next day
  • every day the same food
  • when arrived they haven’t even informed us about standard things like what time breakfast is for example or any of that , where to find bus stop, nearest restaurant basics stuff.

Hotel also very noisy - located to very busy street, music is played until 10-11pm and some of the rooms are being refurbished. Opposite the road also new hotel is being constructed what makes another noises You are not allowed to bring your own drinks to the swimming pool not even water. Small Variety of drinks and food same regarding to quality of food. Inside hotel you are able to buy all activities however they way more expensive than everywhere else- way more Hotel bar and restaurant very expensive too comparing to other places and quality of food. Lovely Lebanese 🇱🇾 restaurant opposite the road if your hungry, also very cheap! Over all big chaos I would say looks like typical for this town.

Honest review

Pros:

  • 35-40 min walk to the medina
  • Nice swimming pool, clean and it looks like it has been recently restored however sunbeds are very dated and could do with a better clean
  • Cleaners are amazing and they do a wonderful job, they do comprehensive cleaning of the entire room every day, they even folded my daughter’s clothes! Really amazing ladies.

Cons:

  • Check in starts at 2pm, we arrived at 12:15 and were told we’ll get a room at 13:00, which wasn’t a problem at all but at 13:00 we were told, by the same person, they don’t give the room keys out until 14:00. So that was a bit confusing.
  • The hotel is very dated, some of the rooms have been renovated but we weren’t lucky enough to get one. We asked for a room change as the bath in the one we were given had a big brown stain in the middle but we were given the same kind of room. All walls are marked, dirty, sockets are coming off the walls, everything is literally falling apart
  • Breakfast is very poor and the only edible thing for me was the omelette and msemen (Moroccan flatbread). Although breakfast starts at 6:30 most of the things are not available until around 8am. They only bring one basket of fruit and when it’s gone it’s gone. They won’t bring anymore. Restaurant is also very dated and could do with a better clean.
  • Bar is very expensive for Morocco. Small bear €5, Coke €3 (€0,55 in the shop) and you are not allowed even a bottle of water with you when you are at the pool
  • You can book all activities and excursions in the hotel but expect to pay 3 time more
  • There’s a tourist tax to pay upon checking in but there was no mention about it anywhere
  • There’s a traditional Berber music band that plays the same songs every night for about 3h
  • The hotel is quite noisy as they are doing some works, I guess they are renovating the rest of the rooms.

It’s definitely not a 4 star hotel, maybe it used to be 20 years ago. Sadly I would not recommend booking it however if you already have some not expect much.

Diwane devine

The Diwane hotel has great friendly staff. We paid to upgrade standard room on arrival and was worth it. However the service lift at the back wall of the room was noisy so on request of alternative room we were given a junior suite which was even better. Breakfast was good and varied and spa was excellent. Hotel was having rooftop building work during day which is noisy but didn’t detract from us having a good stay
