Terrible loud music noise from pool area from late morning until 5.30pm. Started again at 7pm to 11pm from the stage round pool made worse by entertainer shouting through microphone. Not popular as demonstrated by very few people round pool and about 10 people taking part in evening. Even with bedroom doors shut I could still hear it and not be able to sleep. WHY does it have to be so loud? Waiter service for drinks during dinner very slow with little English. Given tiny wine glass as large ones had run out? Will not be returning.
TERRIBLE AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Went to this hotel with my partner as part of the scotland team for 8 ball pool competition with lots of countries staying here. We Was not meant to be staying here got told this 2 days before we arrived this is where we were put. Hotel rooms were lovely and the pool was lovely that's only good thing about this hotel. Food was never labeled and often cold. Only good for kids were pizza and chips. Pretty sure same food was put out again and again especially the sliced fruit in morning. Cross contamination with the same tongs for all sliced fruit . Same tongs for all kinds of pizza too.. about 10 salt shskers in the whole restaurant. Very smokey at the tables inside and outside due to the barbecues. The bottled water was always warm and never cold. No snacks whatsoever. bar constantly ran out of bottles of lager and spirits . Never enough glasses. They would only take out 1 crate of lager at a time and was always warm . You would have to wait about 20 mins for them to get more even after complaining to management several tines. This is not a 5 star hotel at all. Would nit class as all inclusive either as you barely get any alcoholic drinks. Would never return
Stay: World 8 Ball Pool Championshionship 2027 ‘ Top World Class Players’
Bulk Booking for competitors in a major sports event, large teams from all over world representing their countries: Australia, France, Northern Ireland & Scotland. All self funded.
Location remote in a secured area with security gates. There is security guards discreetly all over complex.
Hotel 'DID NOT' accommodate food times to enable all the players from all over world, to eat & drink food when ‘they needed’. These were paying guests playing matches in World Pool Championships at another venue hotel (where we had all actually paid/booked to stay at AI, but that’s another issue) .
Our teams were re-located to El Olivar on arrival without any knowledge & players consisted off children & adults who were playing in this major event. Most went over 12 hours a day without any food & drink that paid a lot of money for All Inclusive and hotel failed big time on this.
There is only 1 restaurant, which opened a few hours, 3 times a day.
Restaurant very poor with no food labelling & no allergy warnings. Chefs say everything is chicken when you ask what is this, be wary as that’s not the case. Chilled food was kept cold by a freestanding fan and warm food in cauldrans were cold or luke warm at best. Microwave provided is the 5* way to have hot food.
Running out of bread, butter @ breakfast, recycled food from previous night for next day lunch. Kids/fussy eaters only option pizza, chips lunch & tea every single day. One evening there wasn’t even that. Dessert were dished up by a server behind counter. No ice cream in evening. You had to take your own alcohol from outside bar to restaurant for your evening meal. Bbq station was very smokey and in a dining area.
The bar (is called a snack bar that doesn’t serve snacks !) is just limited type drinks 10am-11pm. Constantly running out off spirts to make cocktail drinks and regularly ran completely out lager, which was a regular excuse at the bar every day. When a crate was empty, another 1 crate brought across at a time in a shopping trolley and replenished ages afterwards. So long waits if you were a lager drinker. Only 1 cork screw in whole hotel for wine so again long wait everytime a bottled finished. Often no glasses at bar. Issue for me was the smallest glass wine ever. Having to ask for 2 drinks to pour in to 1 glass to make 1 glass (3/4 off a glass) made no sense !! Gave hotel more washing up. Ice maker appears to be made tap water & best avoided . We think this was one of many problems with gastro illness running through everyone.
‘No’ snack bar/food available to eat when restaurant closed, which is a 1st for me at an All Inclusive Hotel.
‘No’ hotel on-site shop facilities to buy snacks or items you run out off.
Lot of the players had gastro stomach illness with diarehea, vomitting & very ill, many calling doctor out. Had to be the food, which was luke warm or ice machine at the bar, which we were sure ice was made of piped tap water or water in the coffee machine.
The event venue wouldn’t allow players to access food nor drink (even though we had paid upfront to stay/eat at Aqua Mirage months before). Not our fault we were moved by competition organisers to El Olivar. Food/drinks ‘should have’ been accommodated around them. Many players away by 7.30am and not back to after 10pm or sometimes 11/12pm at night missing many meals & no access to AI drinks. They had to risk late night taxi shuttle buses, not to get food and did that for 10/11 days running. SHOCKING.
There was 2 other closed restaurant rooms in hotel that an area should have been set up as snacks/drinks for all these world champion players from Oz, France, Wales, N Ireland, Scotland etc travelled 2500 miles+ who spent a lot of money expecting All Inclusive & should have been fed no matter what time of day.
Pool Towels where 150MAD each, not usually 5* perk in room on arrival.
Tourist tax to be paid due minute you check in.
Spa facilities- indoor spa pool closed.
Entertainment was very cheesy & no Moroccan shows nor Moroccan evening gala in restaurant. Day time music was very loud so no relaxing pool lounging, so was the quick 9.45pm evening show announcer too loud. The only good show was Micheal Jackson.
The room was tired with wall paper ripped off walls, furniture chipped & shower heads that don't work when in holders. No iron.
Maid kept room very clean & fresh towels daily, but you went without towels from early morning when collected prior to room cleaning & returned to mid/late afternoon, spells you had nothing to bathe/shower, a problem to sports competitors. The coffee, sugar was never replenished during stay & used up on 1st day.
Beware of taxis and late night travels, as many pirate attacks on tourists travelling in taxis in dark.
Having stayed in many All Inclusives this is a basic Al 3* & not a Palace Standard nor 5*. Felt like Full Board but on rations !
Food Hygiene is very questionable. and everything rationed from lager to bread or often not available.
Not a 5* Star Hotel and poorly treated and poor food hygiene.
Would not return or recommend & everyone agrees this was our overall large team experience.
Wonderful courteous staff. Thankyou Sira for all you did for us. Food amazing. Clean and spacious rooms. Excellent entertainment crew.
Disappointing. This is not a 5 Star hotel. Biggest issues.
Room/Hotel
Our room was not that bad. The safe did not work and balcony door did not lock. But it was clean and it good condition. We were behind the stage but entertainment ended by 11.30pm. Not a big issue for us but would be for people with children. Cleaning not consistent. Towels were changed everyday but the beds being made up did not happen consistently. Towels would be taken in the morning but sometimes new ones weren't given until 5pm.
Hotel itself gives off this grand feeling when you enter but it soon stops. As you spend more time here you can see how things used to be. Especially buildings that used to serve drinks and food. The "snack bar" is the only bar and it doesn't serve snacks but clearly did at some point due to the pizza oven and kitchen behind the bar. The grounds were well maintained by staff.
The free shuttle in to Marrakech was nice and operated by the hotel.
Staff All lovely. Not many of the chefs/cooking staff spoke English. Some staff (going to assume managerial) did not do a lot. I approached a lady on the entrance to the restaurant regarding the cold buffet hot dishes at lunch and was not even acknowledge, she just called over a staff member collecting plates and then walked off. Other than that, the same lady just stood there during meal times. Other entertainment staff worked hard and led daytime activities around the pool and kept the children entertained in the evenings.
Food. Average. There were some good elements. Freshly squeezed orange juice every morning. Fresh omelettes at breakfast. Lunch/Dinner - Always various meat/fish being cooked on a grill in front of everyone. Yet again, no labels for what the food was. Kind of had to go with the flow. Always some kind of veg/potatoes/rice inside buffet hot plates. There is a lot of choice and you'd struggle not to find something. Fresh pizzas were made a lunchtime and dinner. Ice cream was only available at lunchtime and when lunchtimes finished, you could not have one. I did not understand the need for staff to hand pick desserts for you. The queue for the dessert station was also long because of this. There were some food hygiene concerns when it came to chefs cooking on grills. Touching raw meet (whilst wearing gloves) but then touching the handles of the tongs with meat covered gloves on. Personal opinion was meal times were too late. One lunchtime I pointed out to the staff the hot plates weren't actually on. The response was "The microwave is over there".......
Drinks Underwhelming. As per above my point, running out of alcohol is impressive especially by early evening. Cocktails were hit and miss. Sometimes there were nice, next one would be terrible. Yet again, water at the bar was never really cold. I had to ask for a glass of ice most times.
Entertainment. Cheesy and lack lustre. Random quiz night, but it was tables just shouting out answers, Mr El Olivar Palace (so basically get bunch of guys on the stage and make them take part in challenges) Couple of good nights, belly dancers and music performers but these happened whilst we were eating dinner.
Overall This is not a hotel for British people. It's not a 5 Star. It's more like a 3 Star. This hotel does not cater for the British and unfortunately, there were not many of us at this hotel and the people we did speak to had the same opinion. We all felt we'd been scammed by booking a "5 Star Palace" hotel when it is not. They are building a lot of hotels due to the World Cup, I personally would like to see the standards post this event as I think they will find out their Hotel standards are well below what they need to be to entitle them to a 5 Star rating.
