Dreadful -- never again

Review by BubbleKent Whitstable, United Kingdom

This was our 7th year running at this hotel - we always have stayed for 8 or 9 days in mid to late January. NEVER AGAIN -- we saw the first signs of a deterioration in this hotel last year and we should have followed our instincts and booked elsewhere for this year. The hotel is no longer a Best Western franchise and I suspect that they had their franchise withdrawn because of falling standards. Unfortunately I did not know they were no longer part of the Best Western group having booked a few months in advance when they were still Best Western. We had requested (and had confirmed by Email) our 'usual' room at the hotel - on check in (when we were forced to wait for 90 minutes having arrived before the 2pm check in time) we were told that our 'usual' room was already booked and was not available for us - no word of apology. The check in staff were a joke - this is supposed to be an international hotel and they could barely communicate in English with us -- the young female receptionist particularly is useless, with absolutely no customer services skills at all. In previous years, we have paid our bill on check out, this time they demanded up front payment before they would allow us access to our room. On gaining access to our room, we experienced the following issues:

  • 2 light bulbs had gone and had to be replaced
  • the safe was free standing in the wardrobe and we had to get the maintenance man to secure it
  • no tea/coffee making facilities (despite the website stating that these are available)
  • the safe failed to work and we were unable to open it after securing our passports and money etc -- the reception staff told us that the safe had to be 'enabled' by them --- well why didn't they 'enable' the safe at check in as part of the check in process?? During our stay we also had problems with electricity 'tripping' in our room ---- they offered to move us at 10-30pm one evening, because they were unable to fix the issue until the next day --- why not? Where was the on-call maintenance man?? We also experienced key problems - our key failed to open our door a couple of times............no word of apology from reception when we asked them to reprogram the key. On our check out day, we asked for the room up to 16-00 (due to an evening flight) - they charged us 200 MAD for the privilege...........and of course the key failed to work wen we tried to gain access to the room in the early afternoon! The breakfast is just about adequate -- there is no fresh fruit (this has been available in previous years); we had lunch at the poolside bar on our check out day -- not nice - soggy chips and my tuna panini had very little tuna in it...

We didn't try their offerings for dinner - we ate out every night. The swimming pool surround is positively dangerous - I made this point 7 years ago in my first review - there are large gaps in the tiling around the pool in which little (or not so little) feet could get stuck with disastrous consequences - the pool would never comply with European safety standards. On a positive note, the waiters were quite pleasant and Hassan the Bellboy was the only person at front of house who had any customer services skills at all. The garden is beautiful and maintained in an immaculate condition. Wifi was good and strong in all areas , including outside pool areas. The hotel is in a great position --- how unfortunate that the management (which changed 2 years or so ago) have no clue how to run a hotel................ Never again for us -- we will use a different hotel in Agadir next year for our trip.

Needs a more relaxed reception

Review by Kent N Chachoeng

Location is fine, but they shouldn t have locked the back entrance, which was a short cut to the beach. Room is quite normal for a four star ,but a little run down. Tv. is briliant with all the european programs in good quality...

However lightning is too dark - had to change bed. Wifi is sometimes a bit slow. Breakfast was OK, but too much soft, sweet bread. I need some fibre rich food f.ex. Musli - The waiters are polite and helpfull especially the headwaiter Mohammed and Hassan. The coffee maschine is a big hit. Reception staff is overloaded with work and the thin tall guy needs to learn about politeness Enjoyed the keyboard player at the pool side. Played some nice evergreens.

Mr. And Mrs.

Review by joelV8528XQ Iver Village. Buckinghamshire. England.

A very well presented hotel conveniently located in the heart of Agadir. Si close to the main marina yet so far from the noise. Very clean with modern comforts and facilities. The staff at the reception were absolutely delightful to deal with, very friendly yet professional in every way. They always helped in anything we required. Room service is excellent. The pool is beautifully located to include various activities and great spaces to relax in the sunshine. A manicured garden with exotic plants very well looked after. We came for one night and stayed for almost the whole week. Excellent value and we will no doubt come back and highly recommend it.

Worst experience ever at local lounge

Review by MrTravel55 Manchester

I attended a premises called “local lounge odyssee Park” a coffee/Shisha bar located to the rear of the hotel. Sat down and ordered 2 Apple Shisha and they gave us 2 small water bottles with it ( normally for free with a Shisha day time- smallest bottle available)

Smoked the Shisha and then asked for the bill- the female waiter went and told one of the guys and he brought a paper to us and had written 180dhm on it. I asked for a printed bill like they should do and he said “I don’t have”

We ended up paying 180 dhms...

This is not the correct price, it’s usually 50 dhm per Shisha with a free water. This man had ripped us off and robbed us, the female waiter was involved in this scam too. The scam had took place on 19/01/19 around 1400/1509 hours.

We also saw that the system was working which prints out the bill. I guarantee no local person in that cafe will be paying that price. They rip off tourists from the UK, not good at all. 180 dhm for 2 Shisha Apple and 2 small water ( day time rate )

I am still in Agadir and will not be spending a penny further in this cafe or hotel, and will not be recommending it to my family or friends. I visit agadir on a regular bases and this is the first place to have robbed us.

However the man changing the coal wasn’t involved.

Awful behaviour and not fair practise at all

Do not spend a penny with this hotel

The hotel is an absolute joke! The staff are friendly as long as you tip them or give them a little extra. They flat out ask you for stuff, even what you're wearing or if you can go buy them something. Unbelievable! If you're originally Moroccan like me they treat you differently, total lack of respect for single women, talking behind your back...

So many negative experiences I can't list them all, just stay clear of this hotel and its incompetent staff! Even the manager is a total fraud. Might take legal actions. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE ALL AROUND!
