The Inn At English Harbour Antigua

TripAdvisor Review
Antigua, Caribbean
English Harbour

The hotel is ideally located on the captivating island of Antigua - one of the many islands dotting the Caribbean Sea. The hotel is perfectly positioned on a beautiful wooded headland, which stands guard to the entrance of historic English Harbour. The centre of English Harbour with its restaurants, bars, pubs, nightspots, shopping venues and connections to the local public transport network is about 500 m away.

The elegant and exclusive beach hotel perfectly combines the colonial-style building with luxurious and contemporary comfort. It has only 28 rooms built on 7.2 hectares of green land ensuring privacy and seclusion. In addition to a lobby with 24-hour check-in and check-out services, amenities at this air-conditioned establishment include a hotel safe, currency exchange facilities, café, hairdressing salon and bars. There is also a games room, TV lounge and restaurants, as well as WLAN Internet access and room and laundry services. A bike hire service is available, and guests arriving by car may use the hotel car park. Younger guests can let off some steam at the children's playground.

In addition to a private veranda or terrace and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, all rooms come with a ceiling fan, individually regulated air conditioning units, safe, cable TV, minibar, direct dial telephone, flat-screen TV, iPod station and Internet access. A double or king-sized bed is a further standard feature and tea and coffee making facilities are provided.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Not what we expected

Review by paumart cumbria

Our first visit to Antigua and the stand out thing was how really nice & friendly the people are, none moreso at The Inn especially the Reef / Breakfast staff and all the staff working in the main Bar & Restaurant, I cannot complain at that. However that does not translate into efficiency or effectiveness. It has to be said the young guys looking after the towels were hit/miss some were great others completely uninterested, the cleanliness around the pool & pool service varied due to who was working. There is a “gym” but to be honest it is extremely poor, laughable really the bike & treadmill are ready for the skip, should not even be in there, after that it is one multi gym piece and a few dumbbells...

The room itself was old and very poor, barely fit for purpose. In bedroom the most basic tea/coffee facilities ever, dismal offering. There is little/no wifi in the rooms and our TV did not work, in our first room, on return the TV in our second roo. did work but we could not see it from the bed !!!.Internet is very hit/miss everywhere really, drops out daily and regularly, not helpful when trying to check in online and secure travel locator forms etc. The food at breakfast is very basic, in the restaurant it is good, albeit you don’t always get what you ordered, we never received precisely what we ordered once during our stay, anywhere !. At lunch they just present the bill without any prompting, quite bizarre really, on each occasion they missed another sale as we’d have ordered another drink at least, kind of makes you feel they want rid of you, so you sign & leave. The wine list is good and fairly priced by todays standards. Worth noting perhaps lots of cats around the restaurants all the time, perhaps 8-10 cats. The towels are rock hard. Each room has it’s own quite small cylinder so two decent length showers are a stretch with hot water. The noisiest air con we’ve ever experienced, very loud indeed. No bluetooth speaker in bedroom. If you are booking or have booked try your best to get a first floor room, due to the all timber construction and zero sound insulation the ground floor rooms are quite disturbed every foot step, chair move, anything at all from the rooms above is amplified. Disappointing in the Bar, you see the freehand spirit measures and think whoa that’s a strong one, but it isn’t at all, so ………something not quite right there. There is a car shuttling you from the accommodation to the main reception / restaurant building due to the significant difference in levels, the car in use is a complete heap, the service is very unreliable from your room going up, you can walk back or just wait at the top until it arrives. With such a great setting this is an OK hotel but it could quite easily become a very good hotel, it just lacks the quality, finishes & attention to detail in obvious areas that just make that difference, which for the price it costs should not be too much to expect. This is typically £750 per room/night, that is a 5* rate anywhere in the world. This is at best a 3* Hotel at present, it needs a real overall everywhere to make it 5*. There has to be better available in Antigua for similar money, worth a thorough search before you book I’d say. However the staff are the strength of this hotel and the setting is good.

Spent a great week at the inn. Ariel, Vicky, Ocean, Tussy, Neil and Mirium at the Reef restaurant deserve special mention for their great service and sense of humour. Captain Vere on water sports and water taxi - again great fun and service...

Housekeeping great - rooms spotless. In all, nothing was too much trouble. We will return and would recommend.

Without exception all the staff were incredible. They were extremely friendly, gracious and keen to ensure that our stay was memorable. This is a hotel that we all agreed we would happily return to.
