Lovely Getaway

Review by Anne H Caterham, United Kingdom

Had a lovely 10days at Mango Bay. We had an Ocean View room on ist floor which was well worth the extra money. It was great to wake up and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean...

Hotel was medium sized with a nice pool area and beach area. If you asked you got Mount Gay rum as opposed to the cheaper local rum, Food was avarage but the sundaes for pudding were lovely, Good location beach wise and easy walk to two shopping centres, Would go again.

Marvellous Mango Bay

Review by babaies0109 Camberley, United Kingdom

Another return visit to Mango Bay and we had a lovely 10 nights. It had been 3 years since our last visit due to Covid etc. Nothing has changed in this time which in some ways in a comfort, the fabric of the building is slowly being updated and more improvements are on going...

It was sad not to see some of the old familiar staff, but those new ones we did get to know where fun and friendly which included the all the bar, housekeeping, restaurant, beach, water sports staff. New Management, Shireene, in particular, will get this lovely small hotel back to its glory days I'm sure. It's been a tough year for hoteliers in Barbados and Mango are doing a great job. We will definitely return as it always feels like we are coming home! Until the next time stay safe everyone xxx

Lots of positives, a few negatives

Review by ChrisandCo3 Liverpool, United Kingdom

Positive: Beautiful location with lovely beach and clear water Drinks service on the beach Free water sports with helpful staff Al a Carte dinner service, always well presented with at least 4 choices Introduction of beach and pool dining was welcome so not always necessary to formally dine at lunch

Negatives: Although we had booked for the hotel our accommodation was in the Palm Beach Condominiums next door; although we asked for a room change we were told that the hotel was full (we later learned it was at 40% capacity asin the process of refurbishment). The condo was spacious but clearly in need of urgent renovation with dated furniture and unsafe electricals; some of the sockets were loose or did not work Our bedding was not changed during our stay; we spilt somethihng on the cover and we then found it had been turned over and not changed!

Tired hotel in need of refurb.

Returned to the UK yesterday from a 14 night stay in Barbados.

The hotel really was the worst part of the trip. The rooms are tired and have reached the stage that they cannot be cleaned properly. We had a room in the standard block, apparently the upgraded rooms are better, but I do not recall being offered one of these during the booking process...

Half way through our stay, a new landscape painting was attached to the wall over the bed. This speaks volumes for the mentality of the management / CEO. What the rooms need is at minimum a full refurbishment, not a new picture hanging.

On arrival, there was no running water. This was due to a burst water main which was not the fault of the hotel. Apparently not all rooms were affected though. The porter who checked us in an carried the bags to the room did not choose to mention that there was a problem with the water, we could not shower until day two.

During day two a member of staff asked us how we were enjoying the hotel. I mentioned the water problem and she put the problem back to me by asking why I hadn't asked to shower in one of the rooms that they were reserving for guests who needed to shower before the travelling on their last day, silly me I guess.

The food is poor. Breakfast is the same thing every day. Beans / scrambled eggs / potatoes / bacon etc. Elements of the breakfast were often undercooked.

Vegetarian options were also very poor. I had bland stir fry noodles more than once for my main course.

During the NYE buffet, my girlfriend ordered a prawn stir-fry. The prawns were seriously undercooked (grey in the middle and could not be cut through). The table decorations were very nice though, again this seems to be the attitude of the CEO, focus on the superficial appearance for the website, but not the actual quality.

In other events during NYE it began to rain, so the staff chose to pull the carbon monoxide releasing grilling station into the covered area in which the guests were eating. As an added bonus I saw the largest cockroach of my life so far, the waitress helpfully used our menu to smack at it after it was pointed out.

The quality of the alcohol / cocktails is poor. All cocktails are mixed from a variety of syrups with a couple of shots of rum. I found these cocktails to be very hard on the stomach.

The waitresses and waiters are trying their best but seem to be untrained. Sometimes I felt like I had two minders standing over me whilst I ate. I felt like the second my plate was empty it was snatched away. Again, I do not blame the staff for this. I blame the CEO for not providing the staff with the proper training.

The reception was very helpful. They booked us a hire car which we used more or less every day to get away from the hotel. They also helped us book taxis & locate a PCR test.

The location is lovely, marred only by the beach peddlers trying to sell jet ski / water sports / jewellery / foot massages / cocaine / cannabis. These peddlers are some of the more aggressive ones I've met on a holiday and the hotel should not allow this on its section of beach. Another bonus is that there is a Massey supermarket nearby, so you can purchase food and drink.

The hotel is 2.5 stars at best. I have stayed in nicer rooms when I used to go on budget holidays during my early 20's to Greece. I will be emailing a complaint to BA holidays as the current rating for this is misrepresentative.

In summary, Barbados is fun but this hotel is not. Please save your money and book somewhere else. Don't be fooled by photos you see, I noticed the CEO herself taking photos of the boat trips etc. Obviously these look great on social media but are simply to put the hotel into a positive light and fool potential guests, the CEO also seems very keen on replying to negative reviews with cookie cutter / copy and paste messages.

Somehow I feel that the CEO, Shireene Mathlin-Tulloch will try to blame her staff for this review, I just want to reiterate that the staff were extremely helpful, they just seemed to be poorly trained.

Mango Bay not worth the all inclusive 2 star not 4

Review by Leemix Toronto, Canada

We just got back from Mango Bay Barbados yesterday. Stayed there for one week Thursday to Thursday.

First day we got there we checked in no water or drink was offered. We were starving and we had there all day Bbq menu with burger and hot dog or grilled fish (no taste) and some of the tea time snacks that was available from 2-5pm...

The burger is pretty good

Some Of the drinks at the bar were either missing some ingredients or they didn’t the flavour. You basically eat outside for breakfast lunch and dinner. We finally requested to eat inside so we wouldn’t be eaten alive by mosquitoes at dinner Time. You also must make reservation for lunch and dinner everyday. Breakfast is the same everyday Beans Scrambled Eggs Pancakes or French toast Sometimes hash brown Chicken sausages Omelette station which closes early

Watch out for bird poop on all the chairs and benches My husband sat on the chair and got a nice surprise on his back

The rooms ok.. bath water wouldn’t Go down fast in the tub and the bath tub needed to be updated at the porcelain seems to be wearing down. You have to wear a mask even when your outside or getting a drink at the bar or walking to the beach that sucked too.

The gym is just a room with broken machine one treadmill and some Weights.

On our second Last day we noticed that the sheets were dirty and asked if the sheets were cleaned everyday and they were not. If you want the sheets changed everyday you must request this for towels and bed sheets. .
