Barbados, Caribbean
St James

The Sandpiper is discreetly one of the most awarded luxury hotels in Barbados, surrounded by lush gardens filled with tropical flora, creating an atmosphere of ultimate privacy. The hotel is situated on a beautiful sandy beach on the West Coast, gently lapped by turquoise waters and bordered by a tree shaded wooden deck. Much of the Sandpiper's charm and style are attributed to Wayne and Karen Capaldi who run it with meticulous attention to detail without sacrificing the relaxed manner of the Caribbean. Combined with their staff's enthusiasm for pampering their guests, this results in many guests returning year after year.

5* All The Way

Old Fashioned 5* Star Caribbean Charm at it’s Best - It’s probably our 7th visit just as good as the first - whilst bobbing in the sea with NEW guests the word on the street was ‘There’s no place like this place’ & there isn’t - the staff - the welcome - the comfort - room 22 omg the sound the of the sea when you are sleeping !!! - the food, the welcome, Harold, Patrick, Wayne, Janelle, this is a v special place for special celebrations. We noticed this visit how horribly expensive Barbados is now - a subject discussed at length in the sea with fellow guests - but Sandpiper keep doing what you are doing & you will always have us ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Class and location

Our third time to Barbados but first to the Sandpiper. Great Choice! A smaller hotel with 44+ rooms which we prefer over towering hotels. Owners, managers and staff all 5 star and visible to guests at all times. Staff amazing. Location is the best beach on the island. Rooms are classic Colonial style and nice and comfortable. Breakfast is wonderful, we only eat lunch as we liked to go out and explore for dinner. We noticed costs on the whole island had increased so save up! But enjoy a world class destination.

A Wonderful Family Celebration in an Outstanding Hotel

Five of us stayed at the Sandpiper in October 2023.

We had all been there before and we continue to love everything that the Sandpiper has to offer.

We had multiple celebrations - a birthday, a second anniversary and second honeymoon, and an early 40th anniversary. It was a perfect place to enjoy all of these.

As ever, the rooms were first class, beautifully clean and well-appointed. The service was fantastic, with the whole team making all of us incredibly welcome.

Each of us enjoyed different things that the Sandpiper has to offer. For me, it was the chance to sit and read quietly on the comfortable sun loungers that line the beach. Patrick and Victor did a great job at making sure that there were fresh towels and towel coverings for all the loungers from early in the morning until the sun goes down - with fresh water to drink and sorbet at 11am.

My wife and daughter loved the sailing that was available. The Sandpiper is very special in that it has a high-performance Laser dinghy as well as a Hobie 16. Andre, 'Easy', and the whole Hightide crew made sure that the boat was rigged and available for our use on every day that the weather allowed. If you like Laser sailing - this is definitely the place to go. My family also really enjoyed playing tennis on the excellent courts attached to the Hotel. The Sandpiper provide a range of good quality racquets, decent tennis balls to play with and free coaching if needed. The courts are floodlit - making it easy to play later in the day when it is a bit cooler.

Our son and daughter-in-law enjoyed just relaxing, swimming in lap pool as well as taking advantage of the large swimming area in front of the beach to snorkel and view the coral. They also enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts each day - as well as Harold's bar, especially the fact that it was serving the bar menu until later in the day. The main restaurant continues to serve high quality, more formal, dinners with excellent service from all the team and some great entertainment from singers and musicians (we particularly enjoy the Two Guitarists).

The attention to detailed service is found throughout the team - with Riccardo being my 'star employee' for this trip (thanks for looking after me when I hurt my hand and looking out for all our party through our stay). LeMar and Deqwan were always keen to help, and Jamal is a class act leading the service team, with Jamel, Anthony, Dave, and Shawn often helping our group. Olinda, Terry-Anne and Colin on the Front desk are always efficient, smiling and welcoming - Thank you all - especially the many others who helped us enjoy our stay and I havent named in person!

I am sure that we will be back again - although as others have commented - Barbados has definitely become more expensive over the years.

However, the Sandpiper continues to offer wonderful service and a beautiful location that is hard to beat anywhere in the Caribbean.

Still the best hotel in Barbados..... Great food...... Great staff..... Great location.

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day stay at The Sandpiper. Its only our second time in Barbados but we've dined out at most of the popular high-end restaurants (QP, Lone Star, Tides, The Cliff, Sandy Lane), and we can say hand on heart, The Sandpiper is the best. The food, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner is outstanding. The food and wine menus are comprehensive and brilliantly put together. One thing that makes The Sandpiper stand out is the staff. Never have we been in a place where the staff are so friendly, helpful and engaging. Whether it be bar staff, restaurant staff, reception and housekeeping, after 10 days we were all friends!

Wonderful and highly recommended.

Perfect holiday ingredients.

Been coming to the SANDPIPER now for over 20 years…and along with our friends who come the same time “ we love it”…to us it’s “ home from home”… We just love the setting, the staff, the food and over all ambience, that together make up the ingredients for a perfect holiday. A special mention ofcourse to Harold and his team at Harold’s Bar…we’ve already booked for next year…
