Sandals Grande St Lucia Spa and Beach Resort

TripAdvisor Review
Saint Lucia, Caribbean
Rodney Bay

Built in the style of a British palace, this fantastic hotel offers splendid views of the mountains and quick access to the island's spectacular beach. Sun loungers and parasols welcome guests to the white sands and the sea, but those vacationers who prefer freshwater can choose between 5 outdoor swimming pools within the complex. Whether they like a more active or a more leisurely wellness routing, guests are sure to appreciate the state-of-the-art gym and SPA centre. A refreshing drink at the hotel's bar, or a pleasant walk in search of the best place for dinner will prove the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Wonderful Week in St. Lucia !!

Review by Bjantz123 Michigan

We just returned from a wonderful week at Sandals Grande. We loved every minute of it! This was our second visit to Sandals, first in St. Lucia...

What really stood out to us was the people! So very friendly, almost everyone greeted you as you walked by and all were so happy to be there. Peter at the pool bar was fantastic, “the Peter special” drink was delicious so definitely if you get a chance to meet Peter have him make you one. I think all the bar and restaurant staff were excellent! Yanni was our hibachi chef at Kimonos and he was beyond awesome! He was so friendly and really got to know the entire table, not to mention he did a wonderful job and was super entertaining! Shanice in the loyalty and travel lounge was so sweet too! If she reads this review she will know what I’m talking about “ girl your still looking fabulous”! We really enjoyed the country night and all the live music. The food was delicious, the drinks were strong and people were fantastic! We left the resort one day to check out Pigeon Island, if your up for a nice hike I would definitely check it out, It is just a few minute walk down the beach, make sure to bring water, it’s 10$ per person. We took the helicopter transfer from the airport to the heli pad from St. Lucia Helicopters and I would highly recommend that as well. We love trying new places so we already booked for Royal Barbados and we cannot wait! Thank you again for another amazing vacation see you soon Sandals!

A piece of paradise

My wife and I were there April 13 to April 27 this year. A little late writing this review. First things first, this was the most beautiful resort that we have ever staid at...

The resort is located on a causeway to Pigeon Island. The Caribbean is on the beach side and the Atlantic is across the road from the main entrance. The resort is nestled in a small bay, surrounded by mountains. The water is so calm because it is so protected. At night the hills come alive with lights simply breathtaking. Early supper at Gordon’s is a must. You see the amazing sunset followed by the hills coming alive. All of the restaurants were good. The Bombay had amazing curry, and a lovely manager Julie. The staff on the resort were so friendly. Just a few of our favourites, Gania was an amazing waiter, so friendly and funny. I hope that he is there next year when we return. Two of my favourite bartenders were Remy and Kevin at the pool bar. Great guys. The trip wouldn’t have been the same without Nevil the Devil. Just a bundle of energy with a great sense of humour. The highlight was having Mr G as the general manager. Brenda and I staid with him for the four years that he was at The Grande Antiguan. It was such a pleasure to see him again. Lastly a thank you to the ladies who were only too willing to keep you refreshed wherever you were on the beach. A special nod to Kate and Kaye for all of the laughs. You will definitely not be disappointed if you stay here. We had a swim up room and it was fantastic. Looking forward to 2023. Brenda and Joe Maloney

Honeymooners Disappointed 1st Time Sandals Visit.

I will start this review by stating this was our first stay at Sandals. We have many friends that have stayed at different locations and have really spoke highly of their time at a Sandals resort. Our experience was very different...

The only reason we choose to go to a Sandals was because it was the closest way to stay in a Over the Water Bungalow. I will say that the Bungalow room and our Butlers did not disappoint. That is all that did not disappoint. As far as Sandals as a resort, it was mostly a disappointment.

I had many conversations with Staff at the hotel before we even left for our Honeymoon. One of the conversations was about the Transfer from Airport to Hotel and Back. I was told that this would be done in a Royals Royce being part of the OWB room and butler package.
This did not happen. What did happen was we checked in at Airport. The Sandals rep had our info, and our hotel and sent us with a driver. NO Royals but moving on. We just got off property when from a quick conversation we were told he was heading to the wrong Hotel and we then had to turn around. Put into new car and off once again.

During stay we had asked different questions about the Hotel and grounds. Was told all rooms have been redone sense they bought out from the Hyatt. If that was true than it was a long time ago. We spoke to many guests and the rooms they were in were very dated. Last day while waiting to leave asked a front desk staff where can we wait in Air conditioning. I asked about the pub. No there is not AC in there. (I went in pub and got cooled off, it was nice and cool inside)

We went to eat lunch at Bayside one day, and the waitress was extremely unfriendly and very RUDE. My wife ordered a side Ceasar salad, and we weren't sure if she heard us or not because she gave us no indication. When I asked her if she got the salad, she said "DID I SAY I DIDNT". This was brought to one of our butler's attention, and she took charge immediately and apologized and went right to the restaurant. My wife was then approached by a manager, and he also apologized and said that someone would be reaching out, but no one ever did!

The Sandals Web is well written when it comes to talk of Gourmet food and Premium drinks. This all inclusive was no different then any other named hotel I have been to for All Inclusive. We had one great meal and that was Sushi. The rest was sub-par with not great taste and sometimes cold. The beverages were a huge disappointment. I wanted a nice margarita for Cinco De Mayo and the top shelf was Jose Cuervo. Really? Many meals when ordering the waitress would write all our order down but then half would come out. We would have to remind then 20 mins later rest would come out. Again not 1st class service.

Our second day we requested a beach structure that had the large area for laying down . Was told $130 a day. I reminded we were in the OWB and still. I was floored at this. The cost is so high for that room and you still are paying for things onsite.

Asked about dinning on Beach, was a $200.00 charge.

When it came to Covid and Masks onsite. They could not get it figured out. Yes mask inside, No inside, at restaurants. Then boom no mask anywhere but the whole hotel did not see that memo. We went to look at our professional photos and did not have our mask so they turned us away. Again, mask or no mask-resort should be consistent.

So now at end of stay, I have written notes of things I have been disappointed about. We are checking out at the front desk. No lie not one time were we asked how our stay was. We are 1st time visitors to Sandals and the Island of St Lucia and you don’t ask how our stay was. We paid for the most expensive room in this hotel and you don’t ask how our stay was?. This really capped it off for us. My wife took care of the last piece of bill which was just the Tips for the Butlers. She signed we get in car and on the way to hotel, the driver gets a call from front desk and now they have forgotten a 3rd signature. Need to go somewhere at airport. My words before hanging up was this does not bode well for Sandals. 5 Mins later a call came to driver again. I am now speaking to front desk and I bring up some of my concerns. She then proceeds to tell me after speaking to management that they are waiving the final charge which was the tips. (are the butlers getting their pay???) that was our main concern. I hung up phone after saying thanks for that. Home two days later and I get wacked for the whole charge!!

I want to again state that the OWB was extremely nice and our Butlers were amazing, friendly, energetic and really helped to make our honeymoon special. Sandals as a Hotel did not!!!!!

Truly a one and done vacation with Sandals Resort Grande in St Lucia or any other location.

A disappointing end to our holiday

Review by Escott10 Brentwood, United Kingdom

We enjoyed our first Sandals holiday right up until we visited Gordon's at the Grande on the final night of our 11 night trip. We spent all day at the beach having got the transfer from La Toc and were looking forward to dining in the one restaurant we hadn't visited yet, however we were refused entry because my partner was wearing shorts. I understand there is a dress policy but common sense did not prevail that evening...

Firstly had we been staying at the Grande he would have changed, secondly had it not been our final night we would have returned on a different night. Having decided to speak to management we were hoping that a quick yes would solve the issue. Alas no, we were told it simply wasn't possible as others would try and follow suit (lots of opportunist short wearers out there apparently). I struggle to understand how management genuinely think it is better idea to ruin a couple's final night and sour their opinion of Sandals permenately than make an exemption for a pair of long shorts. The stubborness of the management team to adhere to internal policies and finger point blame to La Toc for not having informed us is the imbodiment of poor customer service. Regardless to say we won't ever be returning to Sandals, ,we wont be recommending the chain to family, friends and colleagues and we certainly won't be having our wedding there.

Not like our first Sandals experience

This was our second Sandals experience (first being Sandals Southcoast in 2018). We were celebrating our honeymoon and were greatly looking forward to returning to Sandals after an amazing experience at Southcoast.

Pros: Beach is gorgeous...

Views are incredible. Weather is consistent.

Cons: The staff seemed incredibly unhappy and overworked. It actually made me feel guilty for being there at times. So much upselling from staff at this resort, this was not like this in Southcoast during our stay in 2018. You could tell the staff didn’t want to be upselling either. The same few employees worked the beach all day everyday in the sweltering heat bringing drinks to guests. One server taking care of the British Pub during dinner. Sandals, simply put, take care of your employees.

The food was meh. Not terrible, not great. We enjoyed Bombay and Soy the most.

Good to know items: The beach is public, so you will have people coming up to you to try to sell you things. If you don’t want this, sit behind the beige pillars which marks the beginning of sandals property line. There were only about 5-6 locals on the beach at time during our stay. It was cool to see the talent from the locals, there was an incredibly talented painter that many of the guests were engaging in conversation with.

Resort can be noisy at night. If you are a light sleeper, request the quietest building.
