It was a real nightmare!

It was not our first time there. At the beginning we were placed in a room at the first floor and we asked to move, it looked very old, not well maintained and also very close to the restaurant and kitchen, so always loud and with a strong smell. Unfortunately, just after, 2 out of our 3 children got Covid...

From that moment on we were treated like animals: no room service, no cleaning, no possibility to leave the room whatsoever although me and my husband were fully vaccinated! We implored the management to allow us to have a walk at dusk, away from everyone, on a desert beach and escorted and they denied it. Our children got very anxious but it didn’t matter. They didn’t apply any common sense whatsoever. They charged us the full amount of the entire holidays without authorisation (the preauthorisation for the stay was not given for the additional expenses). Plus they charged us for all the additional days we had to spend in quarantine without giving us any alternative. They treated us like prisoners for 13 days! Both the resort and the ministry of health were absolutely not empathetic at all, even though rules were changing in the USA and Europe they were still following the WHO initial rules (with a much less dangerous virus) and with a much longer quarantine. They forced us to stay in their resort, paying lots of money - with no service and with no authorisation. We are of course fighting this legally as it’s not just immoral and unethical, but clearly illegal. Unfortunately these processes take time.

Disappointing overall

Review by GaynorT2013 Roydon, United Kingdom

The rooms are large and very well equipped. However, we (2 couples) had a good week despite being at this resort rather than because of it. Our butler was largely responsilbe for helping us achieve this, a butler room is strongly recommended. Reservations did not do anything they had confirmed in email they would do: room type, notifying restaurants of dietary requirements and dinner reservations...

Also preordered groceries (pantry) were not in the rooms on arrival. I had asked for confirmation of our two ocean view rooms which I specifically wanted, but we ended up with one ocean view and one beach front which were located quite a way apart. Management finally talked to us after a few days and offered a room swop two thirds of the way through our holiday - too late really. The ocean view room was nice and quiet, though we could not fully see the sunset from our balcony and we could hear the beach club air conditioning unit from our balcony. The beachfront room was not what we wanted and was very noisy on friday (jump up party in rodney Bay) and sunday nights (regular party on adjacent public beach) until early hours. Also the music at the beachfront from the adjacent ice cream van (weekends and public holidays) was also incredibly irritating! Note that we all got a lot of mosquito bites in the rooms the first couple of nights, plug in mosquito controllers were not effective in the large rooms and housekeeping only sprayed the rooms on request and clearly not at room changeovers. We bought insect killer sprays from the supermarket and that sorted out that problem for us. It was several days before the breakfast chef could cater for the gluten and egg free diet (one person). The beach club restaurant offered a buffet and a limited in between a la carte menu. After the first day, which was a shambles, the restaurant made an effort to accommodate the dietary requirements, but their apparent understanding and ability to cater for it was very uninspiring. We self catered and ate out when possible, not what we had planned. Having said that at our Butler’s recommendation we had a sunset dinner at the Cliff restaurant nearby which was absolutely wonderful, a highlight of our holiday. The hotel website was not up to date as of first week of May, for example for our butler rooms registration was not done in our rooms (neither was a drink provided, not even water); butlers do not reserve loungers on the beach, snorkel rental is not free ($5per hour), Management did eventually try and address our issues, but too late to be of use, and offered a small monetary compensation (about 3-4 cocktails each). They did also at the last minute offer us a complimentary dinner at their Palms restaurant on our last night but we had already decided we would be happier eating out of the resort that night. They did offer to double their compensation offer, but this never materialised. I hope the management will take on board our comments and improve the experience for future guests.

Superb Family Holiday

Review by Ozcromp Aylesbury, United Kingdom

We had 4 separate villas ( one bedroom - three bedroom ) celebrating my 70th birthday with my children and their families. The resort exceeded our expectations in just about every way possible. Spacious villas, hard working and friendly staff , good and varied entertainment, good selection of food, safe beach , lovely views , good and varied food. But it was the hard working employees who showed us love and care throughout...

Any issues were dealt with efficiently. The smiling faces of the catering staff and helpful reception employees in particular and their genuine interest in our grandchildren made it such a relaxing and superb 10 day break.

Beautiful beach and enormous suites!

TL:DR - Beautiful property, huge condos, calm water, very slow food service. In short, I would recommend the resort and will likely return. Just not sure the All-inclusive is worth it.

The Good: Rodney Bay is gorgeous and very calm water...

Not as clear as some islands, but the kids enjoyed it. The sunsets were also very pretty and the one hill at the edge of the bay looks like a Mayan temple when the sun drops behind it. The condo was enormous. I believe the one we were in (231) is listed as 2300sqft. The balcony was also huge, probably 100 feet wide by 10 feet deep. They list it as having a “plunge pool,” but it’s really a hot tub. Fine with me cause we prefer that anyway. The bathrooms all have a bathtub and separate shower. A suite this size on a chain resort would cost 2-3x more. The suite was very quiet also. No partiers or rude people slamming doors at 0200. Only negative was a smoker below us lessened our enjoyment of the balcony. Not sure if the resort has a no smoking policy or not. The a la carte food is very good once you get it…more on that later. Most of the staff is very nice, especially the cart drivers and the water sports crew. Plenty of stuff to do as well, such as kayaks, SUP boards, hobie cats, etc. A few of the guys will try to get you to do excursions or powerboat stuff, but they aren’t aggressive. Very few locals walk the beach, so the sales pitches are minimal.

The So-So: The butler service was hit or miss. A couple times we called and never got a call back. Other times, we ordered room service and a waiter had to bring it because the butler didn’t come. The butler service here is not like other chain resorts. You essentially share an “on call” person with all the other butler rooms. Sometimes we ended up getting worse service because we were forced to use the butler. One instance is with transportation around the property. We had several occasions leaving dinner where we wanted a ride back to our room. A regular employee was there and waiting in a golf cart, however, the front desk called the butler. We shouldn’t have to wait longer for a service simply for having a butler suite. The butlers were nice and you could call them to bring you stuff. Just don’t count on it being the level of some of the chain resorts.
The pools are very small, but not many people use them, so you can usually have them to yourself if that’s your thing.

The Bad: Probably the worst issue was being led to believe this was all a la carte dining. I won’t go so far as to say this was an intentional deception, but it’s certainly misleading. Unfortunately, there is always a buffet for breakfast and dinner. The only way to avoid buffet dining is to order room service for breakfast and dinner or to make reservations for The Palms for dinner every night. The breakfast buffet was small and always the same. It was also disappointing to be on a tropical island and the fruit selection was: unripe honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe and decent pineapple and soursop. It would have been nice to have mangoes, papaya and other local fruit. We tried to order a la carte for breakfast a couple times (since they never had hollandaise sauce and my wife’s favorite breakfast is eggs benedict) and the waitress refused and said we had to use the buffet. Another negative is that the service is extremely SLOW. Count on at least an hour for breakfast and lunch. At least 2 hours for dinner. Room service was between 1.5 and 2 hours. In total, we lost about 4 hours a day just waiting for food, a drink, or the bill. This is a silly practice also. Why do I have to sign a bill for $0.00 if everything I ordered is included on the AI plan? We found out midway through our trip that you can ask Callaloo to bring your food to you on the beach. This helped us recover some more leisure time since we could relax or play while we waited for lunch. Dinner at the Palms was very good. However, the bartenders sure couldn’t figure out what a dirty martini was. Only 1 out of 6 was even close, so I stopped ordering them. Most nights dinner took between 2 and 2.5 hours. This was not because we were staying over and talking, etc. This is how long it took to get all the courses (3) and the bill. The menu doesn’t rotate often. Seemed like 3 days at a time. It would have been nice to rotate the menu daily. We also dined at The Palms on my wife’s birthday. This was something I made sure to note when I booked the hotel. It was disappointing that no one said happy birthday or did anything special. We’ve had resorts costing far less than Landings get this one right. A five star resort with butler service should 100% get this right. A minor annoyance was there were tons of sea urchins on the bottom of the swim zone. You had to walk like you were in a minefield to avoid stepping on one. Most of the time, they were in the grassy areas, so you could usually avoid them by steering clear of the grass. There were a few stragglers in the sandy areas though. One lady near us got a nasty puncture/sting from one and had to be helped out of the water. A final negative was the cafe. We only used this on the last day since we didn’t have an hour to waste for breakfast. Two small cappuccinos, a small smoothie, and four small pastries was nearly $50. I assumed at least the coffee would be part of the AI plan (since I had been drinking daily cappuccinos at breakfast that were free). Nothing says “come back and stay with us again” like getting gouged on the way out the door.

Summary: The resort is beautiful. The suite is wonderful, huge, and a great view from the expansive balcony. The food service is tremendously slow, even by island standards. The resort could drastically improve the meals by eliminating the bills if all the drinks ordered are on the AI plan. I would definitely return, but I wouldn’t do the all inclusive next time.

My overall ratings would be: Accommodations: 10/10 Staff: 9/10 Beach: 9/10 Pools: 6/10 Food: 8/10 Food service: 5/10 Overall: 9/10

3rd stay and will be back.

Review by privatejet Grays Thurrock, United Kingdom

This is our third and won’t be our last stay. This time we came with friends and was upgraded from a two bed villa to a three. It was huge!! Location of 422 is right by the beach but the negative was no sun on either of the balconies...

We had just the breakfast package as we like to eat out. Breakfast was chaotic most days with the poor omelette last running around trying to do everything. It was my husband birthday whilst we was there a the restaurant manager Tamar and the concierge made it extra special with gifts and treats to the room. Location is in the best part of the island set on an amazing beach. Would highly recommend and will be back.
