Saint Lucia, Caribbean
Soufriere Bay

Romance, adventure, wellness, eco-friendly philosophy and Dasheene's culinary delights, create moments of a lifetime at Ladera Saint Lucia. Uniquely located on a lush volcanic ridgeline, 1,000 feet above the Caribbean Sea, each luxurious suite, boasts an “Open Wall” design, without a fourth wall, and heated plunge pool, allowing for breathtaking panoramas of the Pitons and Sea.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Majestic, magical, and ever so consistent!

Review by NotMarcoPoloMA Boston, Massachusetts

We just returned from the “Peak to Beach” package that had us spending three nights at Ladera and three nights at Cap Maison (see separate review) for a special wedding anniversary. We absolutely loved our time at Ladera. What’s not to love? The majestic views of the Pitons and the beautiful ocean dissolving into the horizon are some of the best we’ve seen anywhere we’ve traveled...

We stayed in Paradise Ridge #2, and the room was fabulous. Very spacious with lovely design touches. We enjoyed the heated pool, particularly after dinner gazing up at the stars. We opened the back doors at night which allowed for a soothing cross-breeze. If you find the pillows a bit firm, just ask for softer ones. Never had an issue with any bugs in the room; the only creature we saw in our room was a little birdie who was interested in a coffee sugar packet we left on the counter. The open fourth wall really is amazing; we never wanted to leave the room.

To us, though, the secret sauce for Ladera is the service. On point, every time. It’s a bit of a walk to Dasheen from PR, but our lovely butlers were always there to fill any need and always offered to take us to or from dinner on the golf carts (which we only did once due to higher heels…). The servers at Dasheen are all SO focused on your satisfaction and happiness and it shows. All were super efficient and most were outgoing, friendly and fun. The serving pace for dinner especially was perfect for us — leisurely enough to enjoy our time together and the wonderful surroundings, but not overly slow. You just don’t get tired of dining with that backdrop! We found the food delicious. Not overly creative, but well executed. We heard from other guests that the excursions at Ladera (there are many) are well run. Only staying three days, we were enjoying the property so much we just stayed put and soaked it all in.

Had a nice chat with Christian before we left as he was interested in hearing about our stay. About the only suggestion we could come up with was to shake up the 80’s love songs playlist at Dasheen every now and then as a little Air Supply goes a long way :). Christian told us about some exciting expansion plans for the future, including a new spa and pool. Would love to return, and can’t recommend highly enough. Thank you, Ladera and bravo!

Relaxed and Rejuvenated visit at Ladera

Review by kidstravel1995 Saint Davids, Pennsylvania

We just got home from a week at Ladera and feel extremely relaxed and blessed to have been able to get away. Ladera is a beautiful resort set up on a hillside nestled between the two Pitons with a view over Sugar Beach. It takes about 40 minutes to drive to the resort from the airport and the roads are very curvy with several switchbacks...

If you get carsick you may want to take something prior to the drive. Once you arrive at the resort they take your bags for sanitization and then directly to your room. You are taken up to a little gazebo where you are given a delicious punch and you can watch the hummingbirds and bananaquits while getting a brief overview of the hotel. We were then escorted by the wonderful Devonte to our room which was X2 - a Hillside Dream Suite. To get to our room we had to enter through the restaurant and out the back up to the rooms behind. Our suite was the 2nd closest to the restaurant which was convenient but had a small drawback in that the noise of the kitchen fan going on each morning at 5:45am was unavoidable (even with earplugs). We also were close to other staff areas which made for some early mornings. That being said when you walk into our 2 level suite you are greeted with the most gorgeous view. We sat in the swing over the pool and just let it sink in for awhile. Waking up to a rainbow on the 2nd morning was a highlight! The resort was the first on the island to introduce the 3 wall concept and it makes you feel like you are in another world. Our suite had an iPad and a cellphone provided so anything we needed was a phone call away. The resort has a great nature trail which has some challenging sections to it. The treehouse is in a huge old mango tree and the outdoor gym makes you feel like you’re on Gilligans Island or Jurassic Park. The view from the platform at the top of the trail is not to be missed. One thing to note is that the spa is not open. We didn’t know this coming into the resort and were somewhat disappointed. They do offer in room massages however. There is a pool area where we went a few afternoons just to see some other faces and grab a light lunch. The roti is really good and large enough for us to split. The restaurant Dasheene is lovely and has wonderful views over the Piton. Chef Nigel does a lovely job with the fresh fish and there are some vegetarian options as well. My two issues with the dining at the resort is that there are no options outside of Dasheene and room service. We did ask to eat in the bar one night for a change and were accommodated. I think a light bites menu offered there or by the pool lounge would be amazing and a nice alternative to the more formal restaurant every night. My other complaint is that since we had to walk through the restaurant every time we left our room we were asked several times a day if we had made our dinner reservation yet by several different people. It became bothersome. At one point we were enjoying a cocktail and were asked by 4 separate people. The resort was not completely full and there would have been room in the restaurant or the other areas for us when we decided to have dinner. That being said the staff are all wonderful and my husband and I commented several times on how kind and friendly every single person we encountered was. The beach that the resort now uses is the beach at Paradise Beach resort. (Due to Covid they can no longer use Sugar Beach) You are given towels and they drive you down to the beach and introduce you to the attendants who are very helpful. The chairs cost $20 each and were charged to the room. They handed us a menu and anything we wanted was also charged to the room. The snorkeling here is very good and the beach is nice. There are several water sports you can do and all things can be rented. There is a restaurant where people come in off their boats for lunch and it can get quite lively. We spent about 4 hours there and loved the chill vibe. The shuttle came and picked us back up and took us back up to the resort. One thing to mention is that you are escorted everywhere. Even though we felt very safe and comfortable the entire time we were on St. Lucia the resort does not like you to stray too far afield. We did book a snorkeling boat trip through the hotel and were driven through town to the dock. The taxi driver escorted us directly to the dock and basically handed us over to the captain who escorted us quickly to the boat. When we came back the captain did the same thing not letting anyone come near us. There are several panhandlers in that area but the Police Station is across the street so I was a little surprised. We normally would have walked through town to see what the local merchants had for sale but it didn’t seem like this was an option. The resort is catering to couples who are looking to get away and spend time with each other. Other than the pool, there are not a lot of opportunities to meet other people staying there. Several nights my husband and I were the only people in the bar area (which closes at 11) after dinner. There was a managers reception on Thursday and we did meet some other patrons there but even when they had music playing there we very few people taking advantage of the beautiful setting and the wonderful service by Tayna who was marvelous. If you are looking for a lively crowd this is not the resort for you. If you are looking to unplug and reconnect then this is the place. I would definitely come back for a long weekend to rejuvenate and relax. It’s a direct flight for us and the staff are absolutely one of the best features of the resort. They go out of their way to take care of you and make sure you have everything you need and want.

Exceptional in every way!

Review by gorms87 Buffalo, New York

My wife and I stayed at Ladera in a Heritage Suite for three days to celebrate our anniversary. We were blown away by this amazing hotel. The rooms are so unique and the views are stunning...

On top of that the level of service is extraordinary. I cannot name all the staff that made us feel welcome and special, because it was every single employee from the general manager, the front desk, restaurant staff, housekeeping through to the maintenance team (one of whom brought me a towel while I was exercising in the gym as he was painting!). Words and pictures cannot truly do this place justice. An Extraordinary experience! Thanks Ladera!
