Beginning in the old district, take a walking tour of Georgia’s picturesque capital city; weave through narrow cobblestone streets, marvelling at an array of striking buildings - an eclectic mix of Byzantine, Persian and Soviet architecture. A host of incredible sights which epitomise the charm of this city: observe the splendid Metekhi Church, a symbol of the country's Orthodox Christian heritage, whose excellent hilltop vantage point offers incredible views of the Mtkvari River and Old Tbilisi; discover the Leaning Clock Tower's fairytale façade; and walk along the Bridge of Peace.

Journey to the Sadakhlo/Bagratashen border. Upon arrival into Armenia, a scenic drive leads to Haghpat Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 10th-century. This major masterpiece of medieval Armenian architecture is nestled amongst mountains strewn with lush green vegetation. Learn about the customs and traditions of the Molokan people – or ‘milk drinkers’ - a Spiritual Christian sect that emerged from the Russian Empire. Savour delicious pancakes whilst sipping a refreshing cup of tea, traditionally brewed in a Russian samovar teapot, before driving along the winding roads of the mountainous paradise that is Dilijan. Step back in time with a trip to Dilijan old town, admiring the traditional Armenian architecture that decorates the renowned Sharambayen Street. Continue to Tsaghkadzor for your overnight stay.

This morning, take a drive to the enchanting Lake Sevan, affectionately known as the ‘blue eyed beauty’: make sure to climb the stairs of Monastery Sevanavank for breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding alpine mountains (this may be done on day 4 if time allows).
Continue on to Kotayk to explore the staggering Geghard Monastery, a 12th-century solid stone construction partially carved out of a mountain. Learn the traditional skill of Lavash bread-making at a family-run restaurant and revel in the taste of this traditional dish for lunch. You will then visit the Garni Pagan Temple, a rare example of Greco-Roman architecture before heading to Yerevan for the evening.

Set off on a tour of Armenia's incredible capital Yerevan, experiencing the lively ambience of the remarkable Republic Square, the city’s cultural hub. Stroll down Abovyan Street to get the feel of local life, before making your way to the Cafesjian Centre of Art, located within the magnificent Yerevan Cascade complex, to witness a fantastic collection of contemporary art from across the world. Observe a wonderful array of traditional carpet designs and learn about the history of carpet making as you replenish with lunch at the tremendous Megerian carpet factory. Your final excursion of the day is a poignant visit to the Armenian Genocide Museum, which pays homage to the victims of the 1915 genocide.

Travel to the southern part of Armenia’s capital to revel in the unparalleled beauty of the Khor Virap Monastery. Located near the stunning snow-covered Mount Ararat, Khor Virap is Armenia's most sacred monastery and a perennial place of pilgrimage for Armenians. Then head to Vagharshapat to discover another famous cultural landmark, the alluring Etchmiadzin Cathedral - the 'mother church' of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Considered the oldest cathedral in the world, it was originally built in the early 4th century and to this day remains a hugely significant part of Armenia's Catholic history. Conclude your day with a visit to a Brandy Factory in Yerevan to sample one different aged brandies and learn about the history of this enticing beverage.

The location provides sweeping views over the gorge, emphasizing the monastery’s defensive and spiritual significance. Ascend to the 6th-century Jvari Monastery to absorb the breathtaking backdrop of the Mtkvari and Argavi Rivers that curl around the base of the neighbouring mountains. Head into the heart of the old capital city to bask at the majestic splendour of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an 11th-century construction where the Robe of Christ is buried. From here, visit the Stalin Museum in the town of Gori and drive up the famous Georgian military highway that connects Georgia with Russia. Make a stop at the Ananuri architectural complex to view the 'conjoined castles' before a wonderful scenic drive leads to the high Caucasus mountains.

Tbilisi is a magical city, quite unique and very spectacular. Yerevan was fascinating, and the coloured fountains in the centre - amazing. The scenery throughout both countries was incredible and the monasteries and sights such as Stalin's museum were breathtaking. Our lead guides - Sophia in Georgia and Carlos in Armenia - were brilliant. Sophia was quite simply the finest tour guide I have ever met. Friendly people, great food, excellent hospitality.

We recommend that you exchange your currency before you leave the UK. It is important that you budget carefully and ensure you have the right form of currency before you arrive in the country. Cash machines will also be available throughout the tour to withdraw money in your local currency.
Turkey/Istanbul - The currency in Turkey is Turkish Lira, however we recommend that you take GBP (Euros are also accepted). Cash machines are available in all the major cities to withdraw money in the local currency.
As normal practice you may be asked for your credit card details on check-in at the hotel in order to cover any extras incurred during your stay. If you do not have a credit card, you may be asked for a cash deposit. MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted in hotels as well as American Express.
You will need to take money with you to cover any personal purchases such as souvenirs, laundry, any meals not included in the itinerary as well as drinks and any additional snacks. Approximately £300- £400 per person will be sufficient for the duration of the tour. It is a good idea to try and maintain a supply of small notes and change in the local currency for tipping or small purchases.
