They made me switch to this hotel on short notice

Careful when booking any of the Valamar. Valamar argosy hotel wrote me they close the hotel - only 5 days before their closure (!!) - without any apology or indication for reasons. Not even Booking.com could help or know more about it...

I had to accept their Alternative the Valamar Lacroma as all other hotels in that short notice were too expensive to change to. The only wrote me once in Booking.com After, neither any confirmation mail nor did the answer the phone at the service hotline. I saw in the other reviews that it’s a common practice at Valamar to shift guests to the other hotels and often sell it as an “upgrade. It’s good for them but not at all customer oriented. The tried to give me a first floor sea view room - there is actually no view at all in the 1st floor as this is the pool area. The only compensation I got was free dinner. More on Valamar Lacroma: - when arriving, their system did not work - they made me go twice alone to the room which I could not enter with the card. The 3rd time someone decided to come along and tried it another 2 times. - Staff could be friendlier. Only at the restaurant they were friendly (although a bit chaotic), reception and the pool not so much - The pool has no view at all (why I wanted the Argosy) on the sea but to a park that would need a bit more care - If you choose a room with partial sea view - you might not see the sea when actually sitting on a chair, only when standing (balcony is a misconstruction) I would never choose again this hotel chain.

Spa and pools are nice but you do not see the sea from Lacroma pools. The staff could be friendlier. The buffet is ok, with a lot of choice. All in all for sure an ok hotel when you have actively decided for it. Not in my case They should work on their customer orientation.

Below average food, decent rooms

Average… Rooms are pretty good but the food shows the managers are following brand guidelines while not following basic rules of quality.

For breakfast, the porridge is grey slop. Nobody touches it but they keep putting it out because they follow some rule it must be on the buffet. Cooked veg are cold, below hygiene standards...

Ice cream is of cheap quality. Beer is served in whatever glass is available. These are examples of poor management.

Very dissapointed

We were moved to this hotel when we originally had booked to stay at the Valamr Argosy hotel next door. However, when we arrived to check in at the Argosy we were bluntly told the hotel would be closing 4 days later, no apology or compensation. We were told we had to move to the next door hotel (Lacoma)...

Why weren’t we told pre arrival so we could have cancelled our reservation?! We were moved to the Valamar Lacroma but when we arrived we were very disappointed. The pool has no view, there is no snack bar for lunch by the pool… completely different to the Argosy next door where we were lucky enough to spend part to our holiday. We decided to complain at the front desk and were offered a room upgrade, to which the fridge and safe didn’t work, and the tv screen was broken and blurry. This room upgrade didn’t do anything to compensate for the change in hotel, in fact it was worse than what we had before: The inconvenience of also having to pack up all your things mid- holiday should not be underestimated!! You could buy drinks by the pool but we were also told there was no coffee, apart from decaf. If you want lunch, you have to get changed and go up to the hotel! Complete constrast to the lovely pool cafe at the Argosy. All in all, very disappointed that management think it’s okay to do this without proper compensation.

A wonderful hotel in a city full of history

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in November 2019 with my husband and then seven-year-old daughter. The hotel is located in the part of Dubrovnik called Babin Kuk and right next to the hotel there is a bus station and public transport and it is best to use this mode of transport even if you came with your own car to avoid looking for parking. With buses you can easily and quickly reach any part of the city, and I recommend you to visit the port of Gruž and the old town of Dubrovnik (Pile station) with the famous walls and historical sights within them...

The hotel itself is modernly equipped, not too large, the rooms are comfortable medium in size, and modernly furnished. In each room you also have a mini bar which is paid extra - the prices of drinks in it are quite high. In each bathroom there are shampoos, soaps and other hygiene products that are regularly replenished so that you do not have to wear your own, and the rooms are cleaned daily and the hygiene in the complete hotel is at a high level. In the hotel itself you have a bar that offers a couple of meals and all kinds of hot and cold drinks, and as we were at the hotel in late autumn I do not know if there is a bar on the outdoor pool and beach. We had half board service and we had a buffet for breakfast and dinner available. The food is delicious and varied, and they serve both local specialties and international cuisine, to try dishes from that area and all kinds of seafood and fish. The hotel has an outdoor pool and a spa with a medium-sized indoor pool, good for afternoon relaxation. We did not use the spa services but I noticed that the staff is friendly. The beach is located quite close to the hotel and it is a public beach mostly pebble and rocky. There are other hotels around the hotel, and nearby is a small square with small shops where you can buy souvenirs and where there are restaurants, taverns and cafes. A lot of shops and cafes didn't work because the holiday season was over, but I guess everything is open during the summer. We were in this hotel outside the summer season even before the corona virus pandemic, but I would recommend it both for a vacation during the summer and for a vacation and a place where you can see the rich history of this area during the fall or winter.

great stay

Staff is excellent, location - perfect (close to public transportation, bus no6 will take you to Old city), close to the beach. Spacious rooms. Wonderful buffet breakfast and dinner! also lobby bar has great lunch and wonderful terrace to see the sunset!
