We have wanted to stay at the Sunrise Jade for years because it looks stunning and it’s in a wonderful spot on the coast. But it’s been a little disappointing.
The good bits are the location, the quality of the rooms and the allocated sun beds. The staff are lovely, although overly attentive at meal times to the point where you can feel harassed. The gym is small, but decent enough for a workout if you get in there early. Access to the coastal path, the strip and all the amenities is great.
The disappointing bits are, the cost of the drinks, we don’t even drink alcohol but would have to spend €70 for a bottle of water with dinner each night during a two week stay! There is literally nowhere to get water, you have to pay for bottled water even in the gym. The hotel lacks ambience and entertainment. It’s a bit dull. The lobby area is vast and has a nice bar but it has the feel of a waiting room. And finally, the food is a real let down. The buffet area is poorly laid out and gets very congested. The food options have some variation but are repetitive, limited and the portions sizes are just mean. I’m talking about pieces of cheese the size of my finger nail and chefs serving slices from the carvery, meat or salmon en croute or similar, that are sliced so thin they fall apart before they hit your plate. The dessert portions are so small it’s comedic. The food just isn’t a patch on the King Jason next door and for that reason I doubt we’ll return to the Sunrise Jade the next time we come back to Protaras.
I’ve been to Cyprus a lot over the last twenty five years and this is the best hotel I have stayed by some distance.
The adults only element means that during the day it’s very peaceful.
I’m actually wondering how this hotel is not a five star. Glass of Prosecco on arrival before the friendly check in desk check you in. The room is spacious and bed comfortable. The shower is lovely, cold especially at this time of year. We were on the ground floor so can’t comment on the balcony but the terrace area was quiet and nice to have a drink or just relax.
The breakfast was very nice. Lot of choices, including an egg station serving fresh poached, fried eggs or omelettes. The setting is lovely whilst having your breakfast with the view of the sea. During the day the pool is quiet. There is various activities such as Pilates, water aerobics. It has two pools. One infinity. The swim up bar is excellent, the lads who work in there deserve a lot of credit. It’s around €5 a pint. Welcome touches include frozen towels and a bowl of fruit during the day for everyone.
The best part of the hotel is the sunbed booking. No need to get up and put towels down. You book your bed on your first day and it’s yours for the duration. If you want to change just ask them at half 8 and they will assist. The beds near the hotel itself were best as you get a bit of welcome shade in the afternoon. (One thing I will say is the last day needs clarification of what to do as it’s uncertain if you have the bed all day or until check out - could be an issue if you’re flight is late at night)
The restaurants were very nice, we were only b&b but used Ginger and the food was excellent.
There’s changing facilities if your flight is late on.
Around a 15min walk to the bars of Protaras. Lovely walk on a morning around the coastal path. Make sure you get up for the sunrise.
All staff are very friendly and I can’t speak highly enough of this hotel. Will be back
congestion and frequently lukewarm hot food are, for us, the weakest aspects of an otherwise very pleasant hotel.
A larger or redesigned servery, better separation of the live-cooking stations and more attention to keeping hot dishes genuinely hot would make a substantial difference. For a five-star hotel, the present arrangement simply isn't up to the standard of the rest of the property.
We were looking for a relaxing vacation in the Mediterranean region.
This was a last minute decision and we took a leap of faith by selecting the eastern coast of Cyprus and the Sunshine Jade hotel. We were not disappointed and our experience far exceeded our expectations.
This is beautiful property with amazing pool areas, comfortable and spacious rooms (we picked a room on a high floor with sea view: a must if you want to watch the sun rise), amazing food from breakfast to dinner ( we did not experience the buffet option at dinner but tried table service options at the Asian restaurant which was excellent).
The hotel overlooks a couple of small beaches and cove areas where we could swim and come back quickly to hotel. This is an adult only hotel and therefore conveys a very chill atmosphere.
We were also impressed by the service at reception, pool areas and restaurants. The hotel is a 10mns walk from Protaras a town centered on tourism with a lot of restaurant options. For us, the main goal was to enjoy sea, sun, relaxation and the Sunshine Jade hotel was the perfect choice.
From start to finish the holiday was incredible. The hotel is so clean, staff work incredibly hard to maintain such high standards.
Rooms are great, highly recommend sea view rooms. Views and sunrise are worth the extra cost. Nice toiletries in the room, hairdryer, tea, coffee, milk and 2 bottles of water each day.
Food is lovely, lots of variety at breakfast and dinner. Could maybe be a little warmer but appreciate that is difficult with this type of catering facility.
Location is amazing. Get up early (6am) to swim with turtles in the bay. To the left it’s much busier, you can walk to the main resort with lots of bars, restaurants and shops. To the right things are much quieter and very picturesque. A few restaurants and lots of beautiful views.
I am very fussy and would often find issues with a hotel. I can honestly say that I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat. We are sad to be leaving.
