Mitsis Messonghi Beach

I want to give a totally honest review of this hotel. We were a family of 3. Me, my partner and 13 year old daughter. I’ll start with the positives. This hotel is in a great location!! Walking distance to both Messonghi and Moraitika and so close to the beach!! Checking in when we arrived was quick and easy and the reception staff so helpful throughout our stay. This hotel is great for young children. Large playground and big arcade. The entertainment staff are great and there are lots of different activities to take part in. Good….. Plenty of different options for food. Pizza and pasta bars, panini bar, ice cream and crepes. Food in the main restaurant is ok. We always found something to eat but didn’t use it at lunch time. We never had a problem getting loungers, although we’re not the type of people who need a ‘prime’ spot round the pool!! If you want a lounger round the pool with a parasol you will need to be up early!! I heard people saying they were going down at 6am to get their space!! We used to go on the grassed area under some trees. Plenty of shade if you wanted it but could also move them into the sun. We never got up at daft o’clock to get a lounger!! The blue lagoon trip which goes to Parga is lovely. Also go to Corfu old town!! The negatives…..our room. We had a room for 2 with an extra camp bed crammed in. This is fine if the room is big enough to accommodate it but our’s wasn’t. We couldn’t open one of the wardrobe doors fully because the beds and bedside cabinets had all been moved up to fit the extra bed in!! At the other end we couldn’t open the drawers or use the dressing table properly because the third bed was in the way. Literally no room to swing a cat round. We were in block Y on the 3rd floor. Queues… be prepared to queue, A LOT!!!! There are 5 bars but each one only had 1 member of staff while we were there. You can easily spend half your day queueing. No self service soft drinks which would make a massive difference and maybe a few self serve beer/wine pumps. We stood in a queue for nearly 20 mins and when we got to the front we’re told they had ran out of glasses. It wasn’t that bad when we first got there but as the days passed and the hotel got up to full capacity it was getting a bit much. Put you off getting a drink at all!! The pools…….. The main pool with the slides was cloudy. There are a number of different pools but they are all quite small and get packed easily. Would I return….. at the start of the holiday I would have said yes. By the end of the holiday it’s a no.

good - hotel is in a nice location in a beautiful bay. So nice being directly on the beach and if you walk as far as can to the right the beach is quieter and don’t have to queue as much for drinks and sandwiches. Our aircon worked very well (although from reviews I don’t think this is always the case). Food was quite good - although I missed seafood and stater options previously enjoyed in other all inclusives. Bed comfortable and rooms cleaned every day. Bad - the hotel is massive, over crowded and very very loud. Around the pool with slides music bangs out all day. There are no shows or entertainment in evening to speak of just bands or DJs. Some of which was ok - but unfortunately our room was very central and the noise did not stop until gone 11:00. We considered asking to move but didn’t want to risk losing the working aircon! Restaurants very crowded like eating in a canteen. Beach restaurant slightly better but not much choice. Everywhere very dated. Pools tiny and crowded. Can’t get a sunbed unless up early to reserve one. Annoying - my son was keen to join in advertised football / basketball- but it’s on at 4pm when it is still boiling. Was not old enough for basketball (and no one else turned up to play) and no instructor turned up for the football. There is a reasonable gym but it is very hot and doesn’t open until 9:00 so difficult to go before breakfast and v busy.
So many queues to get anything. They need to install help your self icecream and soft drinks (as in every other self inclusive I have been to). As a family we have been to a lot of similarly priced all inclusives and this was poor in comparison. Only thing saving it was the quiet spot we found in the beach. Had a couple of nice days out - south Corfu boat trip. Water park and 75 steps restaurant (amazing view).
