Location: Asterias Village Resort is situated between Koutouloufari Village (300 meters from the center of Koutouloufari) and Piskopiano Village (150 meters from the center of Piskopiano). That location itself provides the whole unit with a great panoramic view of the whole Hersonissos Harbor (1,5 km away) & the Cretan Sea. The area combines the cosmopolitan heart of Hersonissos and the most beautiful local neighborhood. Three traditional villages: Koutouloufari, Piskopiano & Old Hersonissos make this area a very interesting tourism destination. Within the area are the most popular beaches, at a short distance. Furthermore, the area is easily reached by the National Highway via by-pass road. Finally, this is a unique localized combination of the sun, sea, mountains and many natural beauties. This area is a real gem of a holiday destination choice that boasts both quality and many attractions
Accommodation: Asterias Village Resort consists of 10 buildings (Houses), spread over a 12.000 sq. meter area. In total the unit consists of 32 studios and 57 apartments, from which 12 (Maisonettes) are designed in traditional Cretan architecture (with loft room)

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Pretty much the same review as dawn b Our room no 17 was what I can only describe as a dark unventilated damp dungeon The rooms on this particular block look out onto trees and scrub land at the side of the block The whole week we were here the outside area was never cleaned, it was covered in crud from the trees and snails all over The fridge leaked all over the floor The bathroom is very small and in general the room was dated The pool and bar areas outside are what makes the place look a bit glamorous in the photos The staff are very nice and work hard When we were checking out the receptionist asked if everything had been ok I told them that the room let the expect down, their reply was that the studios are the cheapest rooms! If we had been given the option to upgrade to a better room we would have On a final note The guy who does the messages by the pool constantly walks round mithering people to book with him From previous experience his massages are not very good and expensive for what you get Koutoulagari/piskopiano are fairly low key with plenty of restaurants and bars Better suited to the over 40s with little if anything for children to do If you are looking to book a hotel with good facilities I would suggest the pyria just up the road
This was our second visit to Asterias Village and it was again lovely! In 2025 we stayed in an apartment with sea view (one of the ones of the main staircase); this year, we were in a family room simply due to availability when we booked... I'd say overall the standard of both rooms is relatively basic and functional but to be honest, that's all you need when you're on a holiday like this. This is a lovely, relaxed hotel and we'd not hesitate to come back at some point in the future. My only one quibble would be that this year more sunbeds have been fitted in around the pool (notably the section in front of the chapel) and they're quite basic ones... but that said, this is still a lovely hotel.
After getting to the hotel at 1am, we had to tackle the steps with our cases to the reception area (i already knew about the steps as i was in koulasafari last year, but thought it was all on level afterwards!) We were taken to our room number 72 which went down down down more steps to a room where we told we had been upgraded??? The room was basic, which is fine but things were broken and hanging off the wall. The curtain in our bedroom felloff when we opened it and so after trying to put it back up the next day we had to leave it closed. The sheets didn't fit the bed so kept rolling down the bed sometimes you woke up on the mattess! The key holder on the wall came off in our hands everytime we pulled our key out! The bathroom in on a whole new level, the toilet and shower were so close together everytime we used it, everything was wet and very slippy, we had to face the showerhead towards the window, so beware of thatl Our view was of a large conifer and scratty dead trees. It was very dark with no sun ar all when we sat out, so we tended not to and we do like to relax on the terrace. The pool area was nice, sunbeds could do with updating though, but plenty of them. We put the towels out about 8am and there was always loads left near the church. The pool which was a lovely length, i do like to get in my lengths daily was extremely slippy getting in down the steps. I couldn't watch people get in because everytime i did, someone slipped. Accident waiting to happen in my opinion! The breakfast area was way to small for the amount of rooms, people waiting 10 a breast, it was basic but sufficient, you could always find something to eat. The STAFF worked very hard and were always friendly and couldn't do enough for you. In my opinion this is not a 4 star, maybe a 3 star. In insight I wished i had paid extra when booking for a better room. On a positive, yes there is one haha, yoy are in the middle of piskapiano and koulasafari village so a short walk to bars and lovely resturants either way. This hotel needs an upgrade and things replacing or fixing, there are broken steps which were chipped and people did trip on them. Hopefully this happens when the hotel closes at the end if the season!
Location wise this hotel is situated between two villages with plenty of little tavernas/bars, would recommend the Atrium for nice food and drinks.
It was our first family holiday with our 4 month year old daughter, atmosphere I would say it’s more suited to couples. There is a kids club but we were the only couple with a baby at the hotel.
Rooms are average id say, the bathrooms are basic which would lend itself to more of a 3 star rating. However, the rooms are clean and the cleaners are very friendly and come every morning to tidy bedsheets etc. There were 2 or 3 evenings where there was no hot water to shower, not sure if that was a peak demand period. It feels like they have recently modernised the pool area and some of the rooms opposite, however the pool bar/breakfast doesn’t match the standard. Pool towels are 10 euros deposit each, however they charge 1 euro per towel if you want them changing.
Food at the hotel is average, breakfast doesn’t change much, nor does the evening restaurant at the top (we booked half board). The breakfast area tables are very tacky to touch (need revarnishing) and the hot counter has glass sliding doors which are broken and feel a bit unhygienic. The evening meal quality is good, however, it’s not a buffet. You get 4 courses to choose from and the menu doesn’t change which can get repetitive.
Overall an upper 3 star hotel with a good location and really friendly staff. It is buggy friendly even though there is a load of steps and a hill to one side.
I had to give 4 stars on the basis of our overall holiday. 3.5 for the hotel if I am truthfully honest.
The hotel is in a great location. We were not massive fans of piskopiano. We felt the bars were a little tacky. But Koutouloufari…wow. It has stolen our hearts. A beautiful village with so many brilliant restaurants, tavernas and bars right on your doorstep.
It struck us that the hotel was in the middle of modernising. Our room was an apartment with sea view. Yes we had a sea view and yes it was nice. But not on par with a Santorini - the odd huge pilon stained the view slightly. Nothing the hotel can do about that. The room was very dated and desperately needs modernisation. My daughter and son were sleeping in the kitchen which felt a little strange and not very homely. The bathroom was a strange set up as well with hardly any room in between the sink and the shower to gain entrance to the shower. Someone of 20 stone plus would struggle to get in the shower altogether I think. The room was clean however. We were supposed to get a daily clean…this was missed on one occasion. When reported, reception apologised but did not offer a clean. The cleaner was very good. Those women work so hard. They would be frantically cleaning the pool area from 7am before starting their rounds on the rooms, they would literally run all over the place. As hard as they worked, I couldn’t help but think that maybe they were under a little too much pressure as fine details were missed in the rooms. Strangely, our sons cot never had any attention either, with his sheets never straightened or changed.
Reception staff were generally great. Communication pre holiday was spot on as soon as the season kicked in. Winter communication was sparse with a response every couple of weeks or so. They were very attentive in general and clearly wanted you to get the most out of your stay.
The pool area was nice. We went in the height of August heat so it would get packed in the middle of the day so unless you are in first thing in the morning don’t bank on getting your 100 lengths in. It was slippy as people say so enter with caution. While the area surrounding the pool was really clean the pool inside could have done with some attention with grime lining the entirety of the pool. Don’t believe the rumours guys, there are no sunbed wars here. There are plenty to go around and we managed to get on the nice sunbeds frequently by going out at around 8am, although after 9 you will probably be restricted to the area of sunbeds by the small church which was a little crowded for us.
The bar area was ok. Staff were brilliant and very attentive. They made such a fuss of our 1 year old which he loved. Drinks and cocktails were great but varied in quality with who was making them. Young Nikos who worked in the day seemed to get them spot on with nice measures!
Breakfast was really really good with a solid choice of hot food, pastries, cereals, yoghurts etc. I was impressed as reviews had been mixed. Lunch was also great and very reasonably priced.
We were bed and breakfast and I would recommend this. If you are half board and limiting yourself to the hotel restaurant at night this would be a massive shame. The menu and quality of food in the hotel restaurant was really poor compared to what you can get in the village. And it really was a shame as it’s a beautiful looking restaurant with arguably some of the best views of the coast in the village. Service in the restaurant was great.
Other points of note:
While we were there we experienced a number of electricity cuts. Some would last a few minutes but 1 lasted approximately 5 hours during the night and another approx 2 hours. If your rooms are high up, this can be a problem as the water pump means you get no water at all. So if this happens while you are showering to go out for example it is mildly inconvenient. It also means that toilets can’t be flushed either. People in the village said that this isn’t a frequent problem, the 5 hour cut was only the 2nd prolonged cut of the summer.
Your safe in the room comes with an additional charge.
Accessibility - we are young and relatively fit so no issues. We managed to get the pushchair up and down the path no problem. But it is steep so nice and steady does it!
Kids club - open Monday - Saturday throughout the day and provides a really nice bit of respite for kids, offering lots of board games, toys and craft activities for them to do. There is a young girl who spends all day in there watching over the kids too and she is brilliant.
Overall we had a really great holiday and liked the hotel. I’m not sure if we would return unless the rooms were modernised and it was at a quieter time of year where the pool didn’t feel quite as crowded. But we felt that all in all, we got decent value for money and will remember our time at Asterias fondly.
