Great resort

My partner and I booked a last minute holiday to this resort in September and it totally exceeded our expectations. We had a free upgrade to half board which was supposed to be breakfast and dinner but were very flexible and allowed us to have lunch instead of dinner on some days. Amazing staff particularly the owner Yannis and Manos in the bar...

We'll be booking another visit here next year.

No morals

Many of our family and friends had booked this hotel for our daughters wedding which was meant to have been in 2020. Due to Covid it got moved to 2021, and then with Covid travel restrictions it unfortunately could not go ahead in Crete.

We supported the hotel by visiting late last summer and had a lovely room, we did not really use the bar or restaurant as we know so many exceptional ones in the village. (Iokasti opposite - best restaurant in the village!)

We had reserved for this year, and when the wedding was cancelled, despite having a covid guarantee that would have meant we could have had our deposit returned, we reached an agreement with the manager that they could hold our money and we would come back in 2022...

The agreement was that they would hold the same price for us. Fast forward to last month when I reached out to book our dates for next year. I was shocked to be told the price was £1500 more. I was told that this was because the resort is now 5 star, but this was being worked towards when we were there last year, so they knew about it.

Despite having a written agreement from the manager Manilos, he point blank refused to honour the pricing he had promised. He told me that the pricing he was offering was heavily discounted compared to what would be going on the website when the prices were loaded. Completely untrue, next years pricing is now loaded and when I checked online the price was the same as what he had quoted me, so didn't do us any "deal" whatsoever.

Absolutely disgusted at how we had been treated, given we had supported them as best we could, and have had family subsequently book there because of our recommendation.

We will return to the village, but sadly not to this hotel. They need to treat retuning customers better if they wish to have repeat business. We had planned on going at least twice next year, and have now found a fab 3 bed villa which is significantly cheaper!

Super desappointing, super décevant !

We had to celebrate our anniversary and it was a surprised plan for me. Well, we arrived there expecting a resort luxurious hotel service to greet us once we passed the entrance gate, no help to carry our luggages until we reach the reception desk located in a high up bungalow, we had a super basic room view in the street, noise of the music playing at night, woke up by the weels of a trolley by 4 am as we were nearby the entrance of the hotel… I certainly did not enjoy my stay there, expecting another level of service to be provided by the hotel itself. We didn’t feel the special treat at all. Only the housekeeping team were available, warm and welcoming :)...

Thank you for it. Very disappointing for a short stay, 5 stars resort hotel journey.

Top notch 5 star

Review by SeanW693 Trowell, United Kingdom

Amazing hotel, we were lucky enough to get a private pool which was quite reasonably priced. Great modern room, lovely bathroom, maid service every day - fresh sheets and towels.

Half board was fantastic, great range of food morning and night. We did plan to eat out in the evening but the food and service ws that good there was no need.

We walked to the beach most days, just a short 10 min walk down through star beach, we even sneaked a few goes on the water park.

Weather has been fantastic, def come back to crete in October - definitely recommend this hotel

Great place to stay, just a few minor niggles that can be easily fixed

Review by Owls1412 Rotherham, United Kingdom

Looked for somewhere in Koutoutloufari that was more central to the main village and this resort was perfect, just a few minutes walk to most of the restaurants/bars. We were given free upgrade to half board which is nice but we intended to eat out each night so wouldn't really benefit. The resort was one of the first drop off after a 25 mins transfer which was ideal...

You do get dropped on the main road and have to sort yourself, make sure you enter through the second gate other finding reception will be a hassle. The check-in process was probably the worst part of the holiday, very impersonal, we were taken to the restaurant and given a drink and given forms to complete. Once we did this we return to reception only to be frowned upon and told they weren't ready for us. We then had to wait 15/20 minutes like naughty school children until the right time. Didn't feel very welcoming and thankfully was only a one off bad experience. that part need vastly improving upon. We were shown to our room which was at he highest part of the hotel at the back of the complex, thankfully there were lifts. The room itself was very clean, very well equipped and modern. It had a fridge which was great and we were given water each day which was a bonus. Bathroom has complementary products, if need be. Room had great A/C and also its own safe, both were FOC. The main problem in the room is they are very dark, not enough lighting in the right place and little or no natural lighting. there are other rooms that will be different so if this matters then check carefully. Maid service was daily and very good. We were given specific eating slots for the restaurant and whilst I understand that number during COVID need to be managed, it wasn't always convenient to be told when to eat and not... anywhere inside you were expected to wear a mask and in the buffet restaurant disposable gloves were provided. Food was a really high standard with plenty of choice to suit all tastes, there was an omelette and waffle station making them freshly for you each day. Any drinks were charged to the room and settled the bill at the end of your stay. Back to the check-in experience, I asked about swapping the dinner for lunch as we had no intention of eating at night - i was told i was only able to do this twice - why? surely if we only eat once then it makes no difference... again not a great experience from the reception team- we ended up eating lunch when it suited and were never challenged but a bizarre answer was totally unnecessary. The pool areas are small and beds aren't reserved, which is fantastic as this is a real bug bear for us. The whole complex is a little like a maze but on multiple levels, built on a cliff-side so many steps/lifts depending on where you are going - if you are looking for a large pool area with large swimming pool and big open space then this isn't for you. It can also make the selection of sunbed a challenge as the sun moves throughout the day and there are walls shading many areas. All of the staff are friendly and happy to help, service was good throughout. The is free of charge yoga, a outdoor fitness/gym area and also a spa. Next door is a supermarket and across the road a sports bar that has most live sporting events on. Koutoutloufari itself has many restaurants to chose from, hard to get a bad one. We would recommend and would return for sure
