"Beautiful Location, accommodation could be better"

We were delightfully welcomed by all the staff at Galaxy Villa when we arrived late at night. The complex is lovely looking with an average size pool and plenty room for sunbathing, with the sun catching every spot.

Our room was very basic, me and my partner were very disappointed with it, no door on the bedroom meant easy access for mosquitos, more so unable to get them out via the air con due it costing 8 euro a day which is a farce...

We requested a double bed but was given two singles, I think that is all that was available however when accommodating couples, you'd expect a double bed.

The breakfast was lovely, offering pastries, sausage, bacon and egg, toast, coffee, fruit and rolls with ham and cheese to fill. A great range to set you for the day.

Galaxy Villa was in the centre of Koutoulafari, a beautiful village full of amazing restaraunts with stunning views. I would seriously recommend staying in Koutoulafari and really experience the true greek culture.

A quick points on how Galaxy Villas could improve:

  • Invest in another toaster
  • Pool is very deep, very quick. Not ideal for children

Overall, Galaxy Villa is a well kept, well loved and known hotel with very friendly staff always there to help.

Thank you all for a lovely holiday.

Fabulous friendly hotel

Review by mccallion6 Swansea, United Kingdom

We have just returned from a week at Galaxy Villas with my mum and two teenage daughters and we had a fabulous time. The staff were so lovely and helpful we especially loved Sofia. The food at the bar was fresh and delicious...

Having worked in Greek hotels for many years I would definitely highly suggest Galaxy. Very central and always felt safe. The pool was lovely. A bit of a walk to the beach but we had a car anyway so we found better beaches further on. Efcharisto poli 😘

Great location in a beautiful village but not the best place we've stayed

Review by stockaroo89 Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom

I'll keep it simple with the pros and cons Pros- great location (if you don't care how close you are to a beach). It's in a lovely village and we will come to koutoulafari again no doubts. Staff are all great...

Reception area and pool Very tidy and clean. Cons- rooms are not clean or modern. The photos you see on the website or here on trip advisor are not the whole truth. Bathroom and kitchen area very outdated. Room was very clammy/hot with no ventilation. You can't open the windows and doors during day or night due to mosquitos (lots of these due to the altitude of the hotel). Cleaning was not satisfactory and only cleaned 4 times in our 9 days here. (they said due to covid). Not sure why covid affects room cleaning in 2022. Would of understood this last year but this year it just feels like an excuse. Pool is not good for young children (especially those who can't swim). The pool very quickly descends from 90cm at shallowest to 2.8m depth very quickly. My 6 year old could not spend any time in here without me right next to him. This forced us to walk over 1km down the steep hill to the beach to be safer for him. We will definitely visit koutoulafari again but would not come back to this accomadation. We would look for something more modern and better for the kids.

Really good holiday

Review by PeteNorthWestUK Thornton Cleveleys, United Kingdom

We had a really good holiday and all-in-all would recommend this hotel.

First the negatives:

The ‘hidden’ costs of €25 for the safe (for two weeks), €3 per night room tax and air con is €8 per night.

The rooms aren’t modern and are ready for refurbishment...

The ‘crazy paving’ floors cannot be clean and the grout between the tiles is dirty. The ‘kitchen’ is more or less no use. It consists of two hot plates and a grill/oven but the pans are super stick and there was no kettle.

There is a nearby dog that starts yelping and barking before 7am. There aren’t enough sun loungers and a good percentage of them are broken.

The positives:

The room was spacious with loads of wardrobe space, comfy beds, a decent shower (although only enough hot water for two people), decent enough wifi and a hair dryer. I would recommend a sea view room.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The drinks are good and the lunchtime snacks were excellent (club sandwich and the pizza).

The location is good. There are loads of restaurants on the doorstep Iokasti and Atrium were good, Patrick’s and fabrica, not so good. We went over the road to the pool bar which was €10pp for a lounger for a couple of days for a change of scenery. There is a more commercialised ‘strip’ heading towardsPiskopiano.Piskopiano restaurants (Thira and Eilotas was a more traditional Greek and excellent) seemed to be cheaper and the bars seemed a bit livelier.

Turn left out of the hotel and go down the very steep hill and there is a good supermarket. If you turn left at the bottom of the hill there is an underpass to star beach which is a mediocre beach with a loud party atmosphere due to the nearby beach club.

Turn right out of the hotel and go down the very steep hill and it is a bit like Benidorm. There are loads of shops, bars and restaurants and a nice sea front with tiny beaches and good beach bars.

We hired a car (Hyundai i20 for €40/day through the hotel) and found the roads were really good. We went to Matala (really liked it and had a really good lunch at the two brothers restaurant), Elounda (nice enough), Chrissi island ((Nearly!) couldn’t go on the island as it is now closed to the public), Mohos (nice nearby village) and Knossos palace. We also went to nearby beaches: Annisaras and Gouves which were ok but our favourite was the beach on the far side of Malia. This is about a 15 minute drive but it’s worth it.
