Hersonissos Village

TripAdvisor Review
Greece, Europe
Crete

This magnificent hotel is situated on the 'Pefana' hill overlooking the sea and the village of Hersonissos. It has direct access to a sandy beach which is located 400 m away and offers all water sports facilities. The extensive holiday area consists of a main house and several bungalows on different levels, which can be partly reached over stairs. Awaiting guests are the comfortable, air-conditioned double rooms in the bungalows, equipped with amenities. Guests can get the perfect tan on the sun terrace with sun loungers and parasols. There are many recreational activities such as tennis, table tennis, basketball and mini golf available to keep guests fully entertained.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Nice service but wouldn't stay again

We arrived late and were greeted straight away and taken to our room. The staff were very hospitable and for the most part friendly (some unfriendly and rude restaurant staff). If you are wanting all inclusive for cheaper food/drink options do not stay here. There was plenty of choice for food but it was mediocre at best...

The quality was awful, one night there was souvlaki (unidentified meat) which was very gelatinous and felt undercooked. Another example was the so called risotto which had less taste and texture than a packet of microwave rice, was definitely not risotto. It was clearly not fresh and a lot of it was from frozen. Unfortunately not all the food was labelled either which made it difficult for myself having a Nut allergy. The deserts consisted of some sort of cheesecake (which even the chef couldn't say whether there was nuts in this as it was bought in), tangerine slices dipped in chocolate, some sort of coconut bun, baklava and fruit. Their was also no fresh juice at breakfast, only cordial. Many much older (50+) non British guests seemed to enjoy the food. The drinks were poor too, the only inclusive drinks were Ouzo, Raki, Brandy, Wine (tasted very vinegary), beer and soft drinks. For a single of any other spirit it was €6. The cocktails were poor too. The rooms were lovely and large, clean and airy. Other than the mattresses being very hard and uncomfortable, and the mini fridge being old and loud, the rooms were nice. We had some issues with the shower not working which the staff were quick to fix but apparently there was no bath plugs across the resort so I was unable to have a bath to help ease my muscles. It seems a bit of a strange policy to have bathtubs but not allow guests to have a bath. The cleaning staff were very efficient and friendly and cleaned everyday. The pool was a good size and seemed fairly clean but only one out of the two was open. The games room was disappointing having only one pool table (€2 per game), one table football and one air hockey table, neither of which worked. It could have done with a wipe around too. The website states that there is a shuttle service three times a week but I was informed they aren't doing it this year. Alongside this they advertise a laundry option at the front desk but this is external and very expensive with each item of laundry being between €3-€10. The view from the hotel was stunning and the beaches close by were beautiful and almost worth the stay. The atmosphere here was very relaxing and clearly for an older clientele without a party vibe which was nice. The restaurants locally were excellent and I would definitely recommend YA Seafood, Saradari, La Mia Pizza restaurant and Teverna Harakas. If you don't mind eating out every for every meal then it could be worth the stay but not good value for money considering.
We were able to extend our check out until 6pm for €30 which was helpful with us having a late transfer and flight. Overall we enjoyed our stay but we wouldn't stay again The pictures are their version of a "risotto" and "Pina Colada".

Recommend

We stayed for 7 days at the hotel as a family. I can say that is very nice and cost, they clean the rooms every second day. The food is various, the staff în helpful. The only minus is that the last 3 days the bathroom smelled like pee...

The view is amazing, but you have a lot to climb if you don't rent a car.

Good hotel

Great location, few minutes walk to the beach. Friendly staff, fantastic food. Would have been 5 star if only for the terrible smell of sewage which was very evident daily in mornings especially and was a pity really.

For me second time to visit that hotel, Welcoming was friendly, overall all Staff members are friendly. Great view from hotel over Hersonissos. Food and drinks in all inclusive was good. 4* in Crete is different from so can’t complain. We stayed 11 nights and it was Great! I’ll recommend. To city is by walk 15min but U can use hotel shuffle bus also. Overall it was great holiday and we r returning 2020 sept back there!

Good value

Review by DellyMelly Luton, United Kingdom

The thing you have to remember is that 4* in Greece is not your average 4*. So there are a few slightly scruffy edges but in the main this is a lovely hotel.

It’s a fair trek up from the village but there is a shuttle. Relatively hilly in the resort itself but not a problem.

Rooms are lovely and clean, spotless marble bathroom, huge beds although the concrete mattress was less comfy.

Very trad bar area, simple beer, wine, brandy and ouzo on the AI drinks, and quiet...

No big flashy stage or excruciating ents team if that’s what you’re looking for.

Food wise we were very happy. Lots of good fresh salads, pasta, pilaf, meats and fish. Lots of excellent slow cooked pork, and really lovely desserts instead of the horrible faux cream rubbish you usually get in AI. Lunches were also good plus rolls fruit and ice cream all day. Kids well catered for without endless nuggets.

Main pool is a tiny bit scruffy but ample beds and space. Just down is a smaller pool with lovely 4 poster sun beds and much quieter which was lovely.

Lovely friendly staff, mention to young Nikos in the restaurant who seems a real sweetie.
