Mitsis Laguna Resort & Spa lies on the beach of Anissaras in the area of Hersonissos in Crete. It is a majestic and luxurious five-star hotel with a state of the art Wellness Spa that provides premium service. Guest accommodation in this five-star resort includes 351 luxurious rooms, consisting of 180 bungalows (34 of which shape a small island, surrounded by a lake and the rest are family bungalows), 90 beautiful sea view and garden view rooms, 79 superior rooms in the main building, and 2 presidential suites with a private pool for each. A number of infrastructures and facilities such as meeting rooms, tennis courts, beach volley, mini soccer court, gym, 3 seawater swimming pools, a kid's pool, water slides etc. make the hotel an entertainment paradise for guests of all ages. The hotel places great importance on high quality gastronomy, as guests can try various gastronomic selections in the resort's seven restaurants and 4 bars. The point of reference though is the unique sense of hospitality and the high standard of service in every guest encounter.

Fantastic Family Holiday

Review by LyndaJ2421 Hertford, United Kingdom

We have just returned from an amazing holiday. The hotel is beautiful and very well kept. Rooms and all areas are kept very clean...

The restaurant with the buffet has an amazing selection of food and it is all great quality. The restaurant staff are brilliant and are very attentive.

We didn’t lay round the pool in the day as getting up at 7.30am to get a sun bed wasn’t for us. We went to the beach over the road instead and loved it!! The Beach Bar with Petros and the boys was brilliant. They bought round drinks, chatted and kept us entertained and served lovely food for lunch.

The evening entertainment was ok - mainly music but all good. The All Day Bar was the place for this and Sortoris and Maria were wonderful. All the staff were very friendly and very helpful.

If you want to book the other restaurants - highly recommend - then Facebook message the hotel before you go asking for the link and your Booking Reference then you can go on and book these before you go as they are very popular.

Our only criticism was as this was a special birthday holiday we paid to upgrade our room to a 2 bedroom bungalow - we did not get this! We just got a larger room with a sliding door and the second ‘bedroom’ literally just had 2 sofa beds in it - no room for a table or anything - we were quite disappointed with this. The other thing that wasn’t great was we also paid for a Sea View Room - we had to go on the balcony, look to the left and over the wall to get a glimpse of the sea!! This is not what I call a sea view and def not one to pay extra for!

Also, in the restaurant ignore the Long Trouser request for men. This is not the case - we thought maybe tailored shorts would be ok but unfortunately men were accepted in there in sports gear - even 1 football shirt and flip flops - not the ‘Island Chic’ the hotel told us that they requested.

All in all it was a wonderful, relaxing 2 weeks and a hotel def to be visited.

Particularly disappointing - surprised at the rave reviews!

Review by Piers C Horsham, United Kingdom

We booked this hotel having stayed at the Mitsis Laguna in Crete previously and looking at the reviews for this hotel. This hotel is not a patch on the Crete hotel and does not justify its 5 star rating. It is very tired and needs huge investment to come up to scratch...

It is not particularly clean and housekeeping is clearly too short staffed which meant on one occasion it was not until 6.30pm that the cleaner arrived. On another no towels were left and it took 1 hour after advising reception to get clean towels. The floors were rarely mopped including the bathroom. A public toilet in the main building was not cleaned for 2 days despite reception being advised. The swimming pools are small and very limited beds and umbrellas. Beach is good but service dependent upon which staff served the area. Entertainment was great. The champagne bar and pita and tex mex restaurants are virtually unusable in hot weather as they had no or limited air con. The Asian restaurant served fish in the vegetarian dishes…..eg vegetable tempura came with king prawns???

Overall very disappointing and especially so as we had such a great time last year at Mitsis Laguna in Crete.

Absolute worst resort experience in the world

This was by far the worst hotel/resort I have ever stayed in. The hygiene was terrible and the staff, especially reception was poorly trained. It started out by them telling me that I overpaid by booking on the internet and would have got a 40-50% discount had I called on negotiated on site...

This only came about because they wanted to charge me for the 2 rooms we had as a group while it was already paid and I discovered the difference in price. The food was terrible and I have stayed in other places in Greece and the food is something we always look forward to. The clients at this place behave like animals- pushy and shoving, hogging up all the pool chairs by just dumping their towels at the crack of dawn and there is no oversight from the resort on such behavior. The killer was that we say a 7 year crapped his pants, take off his pants and walk through the dining area with the runs and the staff just looked and laughed while the child was crying and looking for the parents. It’s the DINING area after all!!! The kid should have been stopped at the entrance and the irresponsible parents (yet more example of the clientele) should have been found. We also had a lady picking lice through let kids hair and killing them at the dining table at the restaurant next to us. Again, the staff and hotel seems to just accept this. The toilets were absolutely gross. I paid 10,000 euros and left the place after 3 days while we were there for 8 days and did not get any of my money back and did not ask for it. It’s how bad it was. We never have cut a vacation short before. Absolutely DO NOT GO!

Family friendly 5 star ⭐️ resort with a great selection of food and experience. 👍

Review by travelguideinfo Antwerp Province, Belgium

First and foremost a fantastic resort overall! I would say firstly it is highly kindly friendly and this is under marketed by the hotel.

I am going to first review the ‘Up’s’ & ‘Down’s’ and then the rest.

Upside *The hotel is huge but very well compartmentalised so you don’t feel there are many people...

*In some large hotels you feel that there are too many people and can get annoying. We didn’t feel that here. Very important to note. *The resort was very clean and in general we were happy with it.

  • The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. A few people we would love to thank are Dimitris, Georgios , and Yiannis + all at the main restaurant team. *One person who went the extra mile always was Stefanos. The F&B manager.
*There is a lot of fun activities for kids and adults. Especially the playroom for kids.

Downside

  • Checkin was simply taking your money and giving your room key. No information of the hotel or it’s amnesties or the 5 restaurants were informed. We had to find out the hardware that in order to eat at the 5 restaurants you had to make a reservation from their website. (Quite complicated).

  • though the resort was very clean the room cleaning was either (a) late (b) quick cleanup (c) forgetting to take dirty towels left on the ground. But when we informed reception it was done in a timely manner.

Things to Note

  • When you make a booking for an excursion or anything you have to check your email. Plus if there is a cancellation or amendment you better check your email.

  • They use QR codes for menus and you will need your phone again. In one hand it is safe due to Covid, but I wouldn’t mind seeing another method.

  • 3 different swimming pools. 1 for adults, 1 for teens and 1 for kids. The adult pools has pool related activities and beach volleyball too.

  • Wine - Excellent selection of wines. Make sure you ask the staff. Note - only available at the restaurants and wine bar.

  • Airport shuttle - though being a Expedia gold customer and I was eligible for free airport transfers. I ended up paying for them. The front office manager said it is not their policy and I had to take it up with Expedia. (Strange)

  • Taxi in General - make sure you have cash as they don’t take cards.

Improvements & compliments.

  • Cretan Restaurant - Average selection of fish and meat. Want impressed for a local Cretan restaurant. I would suggest improving the menu. (Example- the lamb was dry but the white fish was very good). The Pancetta was tasteful.

  • Steakhouse - not impressed at all! We asked for all medium but we got all well done. (This was from one experience.)

  • Asian - Super fantastic and keep up the excellent work. Their Peking duck, teriyaki pork and beef was delicious. A must try!

  • Italian - the starters were above average. The pizza was good and it was a wood burner. The risotto was horrible but the pastas were ‘ok’. (The risotto at the main restaurant was better).

  • Fish - it was vey good and the fish was fresh.

  • Beach bar / Crepes- they make very delicious crepes (pancakes) with a wide variety of jams or chocolate.

*All Day Bar - for kids there are only 2-3 mocktails and others are soft drinks. I would suggest to extend the range as this is a kid friendly resort.

  • Main restaurant - a wide variety of tasty food and I will say they are very delicious but the buffet has less variety daily. The Risotto and lamb are much bette than in the other restaurants. The basic staples such as salad bar, selections of bread and also the fruits were tasty. Though it is a buffet I felt the food was cooked fresh daily and nothing was reused for the next day.

  • Champagne & Sushi bar - it’s good and has a selection of great wines and champagne. But the sushi is just ‘ok’. Very friendly attitude of staff.

Majority of the beach is with stones (granules). You have to cross a road to get to the beach. It’s very clean and so are the sun beds. There is a bar service for hotel guests at the beech too. It is sometimes occupied by outsiders too.

Overall we are pleased with everything and we had a great time and experience. Thank you once again to all mentioned above 👆 and Stefanos.
