Once owned by the award-winning Greek filmmaker, Nickos Koundouros, this boutique hotel maintains a wonderfully typical Cretan look both inside and out. You'll be unwinding among terracotta walls and tiled floors, pretty plant-strewn courtyards and the tinkling sounds of Agios Nikolaos port right outside. Around the port itself, you'll find a plethora of cafés, bars and tavernas peppering the bustling seafront, but if you fancy getting away from it all, Agios Nikolaos is a fabulous base for those who want to explore the dizzying variety of tiny quaint villages in the area. The hotel lies moments from the Blue Flag-award Kitroplatia beach and close to the gleaming Voulismeni Lake. This establishment offers comfortable and well-equipped rooms

We stayed for 14 nights in September in a Honeymoon Suite and it was amazing. The room was so light and airy and had stunning views of the sea and little port. Loved watching the little fishing boats go about their daily routine. The staff were very friendly and welcoming...
Very close to all bars, restaurants and a choice of beaches within a short walking distance.
Fridge, safe, wine glasses, kettle and tea/coffee supplied - even an ironing board and iron!
Large shower which was great.
Staff very helpful and sorted our a couple of minor niggles we had with our room.
In the evening candle lanterns are placed around the reception area and stairwell giving the property a lovely warm romantic atmosphere. We really enjoyed out stay at this property and have already booked to go back for a couple of weeks this year.
The welcome by Damos was perfect. We got a lot of help and useful tips for restaurants, beaches etc. Our room (family suite) was beautiful with a very comfortable bed and a stunning view of the sea/port...
The noise of some clubs next to the hotel at night was not as bad as we expected after having read all the reviews and we slept quite deeply and soundly during our two nights' stay. :-) Breakfast was basic but nicely presented (including some fresh fruit) and served to our room.
Booked through TUI for a two week stay in Agios Nikolaos, I picked the hotel based on good reviews.
The room we got did not match the description in any way. There may be much nicer rooms at the hotel, but this was the standard room for "only" $150 per night. Size maybe 150 square feet without room for a table, so breakfast was served outside on a stairway. Bathroom is also tiny, work moldy caulking, loose fixtures and No water pressure. The adjoining outside dance club provides free blasting nightly music until 2 am that requires good ear plugs if any sleeping is planned...
On occasion, it is drowned out by the party crowd. On the upside, the location is good, but you should be able to find much cheaper options in better locations in town.
We stayed in Porto Maltese for 4 nights and were very satisfied. On arrival Damos helped us carry our luggage to the courtyard on top of the stairs. As we arrived before the official check in time, he gave us a map so we could get to know the area and gave us a ring when our room was ready...
He also gave us tips on which restaurants to eat in. We did try all three of them (after checking reviews in Tripadvisor) and had a delicious meal in each one. When leaving, Damos gave us a tip about a stunning beach in Elounda (our next destination). There is nothing negative to say about Porto Maltese, just that the bed was too hard for me but I guess that’s a personal preference. At the time of our stay, Porto Maltese was full despite the fact that not many people went on holiday this year. It just shows how popular Porto Maltese is.
We arrived without reservation & the staff were really kind to us. They helped us with reservations & suggestions for our trip and it was all great. The rooms were super clean, the bed extremely comfortable and the room was cutely decorated with a beautiful view.
