Elounda, Crete

Elounda

This postcard-worthy seaside town is located on Crete’s North-Western coast. The town is extremely easy on the eyes, with a colourful harbour and bright painted boats bobbing on the clear blue sea, not to forget to mention the mountainous backdrop and the stunning sunrises you can see from here.

Elounda offers a choice of beautiful beaches, fascinating archaeological sites, and a variety of restaurants and bars. The main beach offers a 200-metre stretch of golden sand, with sun loungers available and tavernas close by for a spot of lunch. If you are looking for something more laid-back, then head to the quieter beach of Driros, a more rugged beach with pine trees trailing down to the sea, sun loungers available, and views over Spinalonga Island. Both are proud blue flag beaches. The calm sea hosts an array of sea life, perfect for snorkelling and seeking out whilst on a boat trip.

The town is packed with traditional Greek tavernas, bars, and shops, but if you are looking for something a little bit livelier, then Aghios Nikolaos is just a 15-minute drive away.
