Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We choose very well for our weeks stay in Crete with this hotel. I do not think that you can beat the location if you are looking for easy access to the old town. The staff were absoltutely brilliant. Our bags were even carried to our room for us on arrival. You also get a very warm welcome in the morning for the excellent breakfast. We loved the outside area at the front and used this to the full for Lunches and drinks whilst watching the Football. Again the service was really brilliant with a bottle of water provided and nibbles with each order. You also het a 10% off on the Restaraunt next door. The pool area is not massive but we never has an issue with getting sunbeds. Very pleased with out spotless room which was in the annex overlooking the pool. Overall this Hotel and its staff were brilliant!.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our second visit to The Ideon Hotel. After having to make many changes to dates because of circumstances beyond our control we stayed for 7 days in May 2026 and found the staff exceedingly accommodating. especially Maria in Reservations. We have booked a longer stay in 2027. One of the major advantages of the Hotel is its proximity to the Venetian Harbour and the Old Town, both of which have many excellent restaurants. The Old Town also has great shopping facilities and the beach is a short walk from the Hotel. For those who prefer to stay close to the Hotel it has an excellent Restaurant, Arbona, and we particularly enjoyed our pre- and post-dinner drinks in the Separe Bar at the front of the Hotel where you can sit and "people watch".
Excellent hotel certainly worth more than 3*. the rooms were clean & comfortable & the staff very helpful & knowledgeable about the local area. The breakfast offered plenty of variety & staff were helpful without being intrusive. A very good position for the old town & the Venetian Harbour. Would certainly recommend this hotel & would definitely book again. Michael & Vina Tansley UK
Hotel is in excellent location. We had a room with a sea view good views but got a little traffic noise (not that noticeably ). Room was a little small but bathroom was excellent. Breakfast, not a big choice but OK. Staff pleasant enough When we checked in the man on reception was a bit miserable but we cant be happy all the time.
Just back home after a week of staying here. First time in Crete and therefore Rethymno. The hotel was lovely and in an excellent location for the old town, port, fortezza and around 10 minutes walk to the beach. There are literally 100s of places to eat and drink close-by. To Pigadi, Evanoiea, Helona, Platia, Elofiri to name a few and the food was absolutely delicious 😋, we noticed the restaurants around the harbour charge higher prices and the food no better quality , so chose to eat more on the narrow streets of the old town and at the restaurants opposite the hotel on the seafront. The atmosphere in Rethymno was fantastic at night, busy and noisy but in a good way, not with people being drunk and disorderly. Walking around there were many tourists but also many students and locals and there was a 6 a side Socca Champions league taking place so lots of groups of players and families. The staff service at the hotel was very good especially from Costas who was very friendly and helpful! There were also two other male bar staff who were excellent but didn't get their names unfortunately. However there were two female staff who were rude and unfriendly, one young woman during breakfast service and one older woman working on the bar. And there was an older chap working breakfast service who was miserable. Cleaning staff friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay at this hotel again but could easily be tempted to book one of the numerous boutique rooms available all around the old town purely because of the number of eateries available in the vicinity. Must mention the Bakeries and pastries abundant and mouthwatering! Rethymno was a joy to visit and will definitely return.
