Blue Sea Beach

Having spent many years gravitating towards large five-star resorts, this year I was looking for something different: somewhere more personal, tranquil and authentic, but without sacrificing the finer touches that make a holiday special. This hotel delivered exactly that.

Set on the edge of what was once a small fishing village, now a town that caters comfortably for visitors with a selection of tavernas, cafés and shops, the hotel feels slightly removed from the busier areas while still being within easy reach of local amenities. The real appeal of the location, however, is the hotel's setting itself. Perfectly positioned between the mountains and the Mediterranean, no matter where you are on the property, the focus is always drawn towards the stunning shoreline and crystal-clear sea.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, lush with greenery and thoughtfully designed. While the hotel does not occupy an enormous footprint, it feels surprisingly spacious. Winding pathways through the gardens lead to individual bungalows, creating a sense of privacy and calm rather than the feeling of being packed into a large resort.

One of the things I appreciated most was the atmosphere. The hotel has mastered a relaxed, understated elegance, but equally importantly, it seems to attract guests who value the same approach. The clientele was a wonderfully mixed European crowd, and throughout our stay there was a genuine sense of calm and consideration. It was refreshing to experience a resort where people were there to unwind and appreciate their surroundings.

The balance between relaxation and entertainment was particularly well judged. There was always something happening, from live music to dance and singing performances in the evenings, but never to the point where it felt intrusive. The bars and restaurants are beautifully positioned overlooking the sea, allowing guests to enjoy the views and atmosphere long into the evening.

Our swim-up room was excellent, with thoughtful landscaping and foliage beyond the pool providing an added sense of privacy. The pool and beach areas were also very well managed. Sunbeds (exceptionally comfortable with an extra "pillow" layer) around the main pool could not be reserved before 8am, which effectively eliminated the usual early-morning scramble that can detract from the resort experience. While the most sought-after spots naturally filled up, we never struggled to find comfortable sunbeds elsewhere around the hotel. Spending time on the beach was lovely.

Above all else, however, it was the people who made this stay memorable. Every member of staff we encountered was attentive and genuinely committed to ensuring guests were comfortable and well looked after. There was a consistency to the service that suggested a strong culture behind the scenes.

We were fortunate enough to meet the General Manager, Mr Zacharias, and it quickly became clear where much of the hotel's character originates. He is warm, knowledgeable and clearly takes immense pride in both the hotel and the atmosphere he and his team have created. His experience working within some of the island's finest resorts is evident, but what stands out most is the genuine hospitality that runs throughout the property.

There are undoubtedly other hotels that offer similar levels of comfort and quality, but many come at a considerably higher price point. What makes this resort so impressive is the value it delivers alongside that elusive feeling of ease and authenticity. Luxury can be bought; atmosphere cannot. This hotel has managed to create both. For anyone seeking a refined yet laid-back escape in a beautiful setting, I would recommend it wholeheartedly. We left feeling refreshed and very much hope to return.

Stunning resort with a relaxed vibe, would highly recommend. Great beach front location, beautiful grounds & staff who will make your stay special. We booked all inclusive & the food was amazing, great choices in the main restaurant with fresh, tasty food, staff on hand for drinks orders always. There is a snack bar by the pool area which serves light meals/drinks/ice cream all day which our teenagers loved (fast service by the hard working staff too!) The evening atmosphere is chilled with staff serving drinks at your table & entertainment such as singers or a band playing. Management always visible on the resort, the place is spotlessly clean & every single member of staff are happy & helpful. Rooms are beautiful & well designed with everything you could need. Would absolutely recommend to anyone planning a stay in northern Crete

I visited blue sea hotel and ot was wonderful. I also went to the spa. It was and extraodi ary massage by Tekla. Dhe is amazing. The manager Wendy is so kimd snd helpful. Thank you
