Great resort

Review by Odyssey55318658012

We spent 7 days in a hotel and our impressions are great. We stayed in a renovated part of the hotel. The room and resort were clean, the food excellent, the staff friendly and helpful, the entertainment in the evening good. Animation for children could last longer, and there are some stones and grass in the sea that could be worked on. All in all, we leave the holiday satisfied.Warm recommendation for this accomodation from us.

Noisy, crowded place

Review by kiril_varbanov Sofia, Bulgaria

That place was almost a complete disappointment. It was noisy, crowded and it's not worth it, unless you want to be bothered by screaming kids all the time. The quiet getaway is the Blue Coffee just across the road, the real saver...

Uncomfortable small rooms, poor AC, weak internet, chaos and twists with reservation. On the last day we wanted to extend our stay for half a day, i.e. late checkout, as it was discussed over the phone with their reservation manager last night. In the morning it turned out this was not possible, because the room was sold. We had the chance to stay in the room if we pay for the whole day, but not for half. Pure extortion. Again, just look elsewhere.

Nice hotel but a few negatives

Review by SharonW332

Due to the Corona situation, we had to choose an alternative accommodation but because most people are in the same situation, there wasn't much available. We chose the Blue Dolphin because it was reasonably priced, has its own beach and had some good reviews. Basically, we were desperate for a break following the busy time and jobs that did not stay still during the initial corona pandemic.

It's a lovely hotel, spotlessly clean and the Covid19 rules are strictly followed...

The scenery is quite beautiful, pine forests, olive trees, mountains, glistening sea. Stunning!

Unfortunately, beforehand, we hadn't been informed that the only bar open after 6pm was the pool bar. So our anticipated evenings overlooking the med faded into disappointment. We were also not informed that the only restaurant available was the main dining area inside the hotel. I think this needs to be clearly stated by the travel agents to avoid any high expectations.

We were really disappointed at the lack of facilities, had we known, would have reconsidered the booking. When we checked in the receptionist reeled off a list of things that were either closed or no longer available, which was quite a revelation.

Our room was nice and had a lovely view but there was a very sewerage like smell from the aircon following a shower. Quite odd and nauseating. The rooms are only cleaned every 3 days and fresh towels are not supplied. This was not ok, so we made sure to request clean towels daily. Post beach, sandy, dusty walks and plain sweaty days require daily towels. We couldn't grasp why the 3 day rule? Because of Covid seemed an inadequate answer.

Also, opening and closing times seemed to keep changing ad-hoc. The beach bar stated open at 10 but it was really 9am. So for those not in the loop turning up at 10 to book a sun lounger was al shock as they were mostly all booked up, often for the week by people who on some days, didn't even turn up to use them. Very unfair. Also the first hotel I've stayed at where you have to pay to use their sun loungers. 4.50 for a set for a day. Not expensive but still a bit cheeky! The gym suddenly had a notice stating new opening hours, at 10am, when the lifeguard showed up. We like to do our fitness regime early(ish) but it seems the gym was only open for the animation team and paying guests could just lump it.

The food was adequate, nothing more. Queues of masked guests waiting for their food, which was served from behind perspex screens by uninterested staff who were, quite frankly quite stingy with the portions in the evenings. As a result the food was always luke-warm. Drinks in the restaurant were not included in the half board so a waiter took your order, before you opened your mouth you were greeted with "pay by cash or room" - not very friendly, especially when your order took ages to arrive. At breakfast, the girl serving eggs and bacon etc, seemed very unfriendly and condescending. After a couple of days, you lose the willl to be pleasant back. In contrast the girl serving salads, fruit etc was a lovely friendly girl, with a ready smile visible even behind her mask. Very welcoming. The pool bar filled up most nights and the staff were unable to cope. A long wait for your order, which was taken following the now usual bark of "Pay by cash or room". One night we waited 40 minutes for our order to arrive. Not sure if some of this was due to it being end of season, the long hours these guys work or just the unexpected volume of guests. We tried to not let it affect us but it doesn't make for a relaxed and happy holiday.

The hotel is out of the way, the walk to the nearby village takes about 40 minutes but it is a lovely walk. We took the beach and sometimes the road, both equally pleasant and the beach has some fabulous little coves with lots of interesting pebbles and rocks. Not much to do in the village but the two cafes that were open served delicious food at a fraction of the beach bar prices and a LOT friendlier. The market there also supplying the same souvenir tat a fraction of the hotel mini-mart prices ...and friendlier. They had plenty of water, wine and beer available, as well as snacks etc. Apart from the (almost dead) village there's nothing else to do so we rented a car from Chalkidicars.com. 3 days for just under 60 euro (including insurance) and it was great. Visiting nearby islands and beaches, Afytos, Kallithea, the sanctuary of Ammon-Zeus with a great guide who greets you with the history. As we drove around we spotted a sign for thermal springs, so a quick google and one phone call later, revealed the springs at Loura. A fabulous find and beautiful drive across the mountain. No reservation required and an experience to cherish. One day we drove to Meteori, long, looong way to go (4 hour drive)but also not to be missed, the monasteries sit on some spectacular mountain peaks, which are utterly breathtaking. Anyway, rent a car for a few days, it made our holiday so much better.

The animation team work like trojans, fair play to them. Providing energetic and enthusiastic performances night after night, as well as fitness and aqua-robics during the day and a kids club. I'm sure much more too. Always bubbly, friendly and pleasant.

We were granted a late check out which was great. I have to commend the reception staff who were always very helpful, friendly and pleasant.

In all, it was a nice holiday, lovely hotel, some staff need to work on their people skills and some are a credit to the establishment.

Nice stay in Greece

Review by Andi H Berlin, Germany

Beside the specific situation with corona, we felt comfort and relaxation in the hotel. Big plus is the frendliness of the staff and the serice, nice pool and calm safe beach area, with nice beach restaurant and very good fooc. Well, price is above average and thats the small minus but at least, no worries for quality and a very well maintained place.

Relaxed and pleasant stay

Review by Spoelio Helmond, The Netherlands

We've had a great stay at Blue Dolphin with our 2 kids (13 & 15 years old)! We got an upgrade for our room, having a nice view at the sea. All rooms perfectly organised, very friendly and supportive staff. Due to Corona around the world, occupancy was around 50%, so no trouble whatsoever regards sun beds at the big pool or keeping the right social distancing...

Beach very close by with enough facilities. Breakfast & Dinner well-organised, and enough variation. One tip: would be nice to have coffee and tea facilities in the hotel room, and a fresh bottle of water when arriving. Other than that, recommended! Special thanks to Costas, our lifeguard at the pool, for taking care of both the pool and fitness room, bringing in military extras to work out well and the many tips regards the best beaches of Halkidiki and the Greek Culture!
