Could be so much better

On arrival the rooms are lovely, clean and modern, There is lack off storage for cloths a huge wardrobe with 6 hangers 2 small draws just enough room for small… no main drawers…. We was having daily cleaning for the first 5 days off a 10 day stay then a letter was put under the day saying this was no longer happening…. Our bed was only changed on day 8 2 days before departing….

We was half board and asked how much it would be to upgrade to all inclusive which we was told for 9 days would be 760 euro (more than we paid for the holiday)… The drinks was expensive 4euro for a coke…

The manager in the restaurant was fantastic my husband is gluten free and he explained everything he could and couldn’t have… He even told us they had gluten free bread…

The food was ok but it was never hot at most luck warm...

Most nights the food was same Pasta with just a different sauce and most evening pork.. some evening we couldn’t eat here as there wasn’t anything my husband could eat

The pool was sold to us as heated all year round when we asked about this we got told it was no-may (shuts end off Oct-April) so the pool was freezing and this was one off the reason we booked this hotel

The life guards was great and always had time to speak

The hotel manager has no time for anyone is always grumpy never says morning when greeted and looks like you shouldnt be speaking to him

The hotel seem to cut corners to try and save a few euro rather then spend to get return custom which is shame

Amazing hotel

My friend and I weren't staying at the hotel but we popped in, for a quick drink on our first day. We ended up coming back almost every day of our holiday whether it was a drink, a dip in the pool, an afternoon in the spa or a bite to eat, nothing was too much for the amazing staff. We were treated like family as soon as we stepped through the doors and the owner George went above and beyond to make us feel welcome...

As soon as we got home we booked into the Philoxenia hotel for our family holiday next summer. Can't wait to go back

Could be better

Review by barminbel Chester, United Kingdom

Pros Clean, compact hotel with a beach a short walk away. Staff in restaurant and pool bar were very hardworking and polite. Rooms cleaned daily and clean towels provided. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice Plenty of sun beds and chairs around the main pool Lovely gardens

Cons Food was not always hot in the main restaurant (don’t understand how the Management keep saying temperature checks are done ) because this is a common “complaint” amongst quests ? Staff in reception in my opinion were not very helpful because on arrival we asked if we could upgrade to a “better” brighter room but the answer was a point blank no even though I offered to pay the hotel was not full and don’t understand why this request was declined ?

Great hotel and food

Review by Q9971TEsarahg Lancashire, United Kingdom

We have just returned from a lovely fortnight at the Philoxenia Hotel. We were there right at the end of the season and were a bit unlucky with the weather but it honestly didn’t spoil our holiday because the hotel and food were so good. When the weather was poor, we sat in the bar and played games, read our books and chatted...

We were All Inclusive and there was hardly a time when we didn’t have access to food and drink! As well as a wide range of alcohol (I have read previous reviews saying there were only two cocktails on All Inclusive but there were 10), there were all the usual choices of coffee plus hot chocolate, milkshakes etc. I know a lot of people have commented that the food wasn’t that hot but we really didn’t find that was a problem. There was so much choice that we both had to have little bits of lots of things as we couldn’t resist. The entertainment (a lovely man from Brazil who was an amazing linguist) was quite low key but we really enjoyed the daily quizzes at 5.15pm and the four different musical quizzes throughout the week in the evenings. We asked for a quiet room and got a lovely room at the back overlooking the sea. We thought all the Covid measures were very good and we felt comfortable with them. It was my husband’s birthday while we were there and he had a delivery of a bottle of wine, a plate of fruit and a letter from the manager wishing him a happy birthday which was lovely. All the staff were pleasant and hard working. Nothing is perfect and there were a few little things that I would change but that’s all they were - little things. The only reason I won’t return here is the location. It’s perfect if you like to just relax by the pool or on the beach but I find that a bit boring and like to see and do things. We hired a car for the two weeks (from Jet2 - a Nissan Micra was only £110 for the fortnight, although petrol is even more expensive in Halkidiki than it is at home!) so we had a day on Sithonia, drove to Ouranapouli and took a boat trip out to Mount Athos to see the monasteries and went to the Wednesday market at Nea Moudania, which was interesting. Apart from that, unless you like beaches, there is very little to do. All in all, a very enjoyable holiday.

Great staff

Review by maisymeg Wigan, United Kingdom

We booked a reasonably priced week here, not expecting 4 or 5 star luxury and we found exactly what we expected in a good 3 star hotel experience. The hotel is around an hour from Thessaloniki airport and although it says it's situated in a pine forest, which is true on 3 sides the 4th side is directly on the busy main road, so there is road noise and it is much too dangerous to walk anywhere along that road. The layout of the hotel is 2 storey blocks around 2 pools, one of which can only be used by guests who have paid the upgrade cost...

These rooms are not swim up rooms, just a collection of blocks around a pool.
There is a buffet restaurant and a restaurant which you can book 1 night of your stay and it has a special set menu which varies each night. We both enjoyed the food, especially in the set menu restaurant and there was always plenty of choice for us, however we are not fussy and both really enjoy Greek cuisine, which is not renowned for being served piping hot. I think the addition of a microwave might solve the problem of guests wanting hotter food. The bar was open until 1am and the drinks were reasonably good, with plenty choice and these are served to your table by very hardworking staff. The "entertainment" is very low key with quizzes and bingo and we would have enjoyed seeing some local singers or dancers occasionally, however I do realise that the season this year has been hit by Covid again, and this may change in future. The rooms are modern with a comfortable bed and walk in shower cubicle in the ensuite. There is a free room safe and hairdryer in the wardrobe. The rooms are kept clean with fresh towels and a couple of small bottles of water provided often. The walk to the beach is only around 5 minutes but this is either down 120 steps or 2 other unmade roads near reception and at the rear of the hotel grounds. When it rains these roads do get muddy with lots of pine needles and leaves, so can be messy if you don't have appropriate footwear. When you get to the beach it is a long sandy beach and stretches for miles in each direction, which is lovely for long, quiet walks. The tiny village of Psakoudia has a supermarket, a couple of other small shops, a petrol station and a few tavernas as well as a few other small hotels and a large hotel in the middle. The main street along the shore is where everything in the village is and if you are wanting an extremely quiet holiday this is a good location.
