No-Nonsense Review – Blue Lagoon Resort

The Blue Lagoon Resort is a beautiful, very clean and well-maintained hotel. The resort itself is massive, but there are golf buggy-style carts available to take you to different areas, which is very helpful.

We stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort for 14 nights in July 2026 as a family of four with two grown-up children. There is a lot to like about this resort, particularly the grounds, pools, facilities, entertainment and staff, but unfortunately there were a few areas that really let it down.

One thing that deserves a special mention is the staff. They could not have been any more helpful throughout our stay. Everyone we dealt with was extremely friendly, welcoming and willing to help, and they are a real credit to the hotel.

Location

The location is very good if you want to visit Kos Town. It is only around an 8-minute taxi journey from the hotel and costs approximately €9 each way, so it is very easy to get in and out.

Kos Town itself is beautiful and well worth visiting. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants to explore, as well as a lovely harbour. We really enjoyed spending time there, and being so close to the town is definitely a positive for the hotel.

There is also a Greek restaurant just outside the back of the hotel, which is well worth a visit. The four of us went there for an evening meal and had a beautiful, hot meal, along with an excellent range of cocktails. Sitting there enjoying our food and drinks while watching the sun go down was one of the nicest evenings of our holiday.

Arrival

Our first experience wasn’t particularly good. We arrived at the hotel at around 10:30pm after travelling for approximately 12 hours, only to find that all of the restaurants were closed and there was nothing available for us to eat until breakfast the following morning.

We have arrived late at other all-inclusive resorts in the past where the hotel has opened the kitchen or provided a cold meal, sandwiches or something for late-arriving guests. We didn’t expect a full restaurant service at that time of night, but after travelling for 12 hours, we felt that having absolutely nothing available to eat was very poor for a 5-star all-inclusive resort.

Rooms

Our original room was very basic, and we found the layout quite strange. The sink was actually in the bedroom rather than in the bathroom. This meant that after using the toilet, you had to leave the bathroom and go into the bedroom to wash your hands, which wasn’t ideal.

The in-room facilities were also very basic. There were only a couple of tea and coffee sachets provided and no milk. There was a mini-fridge in the room containing two small bottles of water when we arrived, but unfortunately the water was not replenished daily.

You also had to pay an additional charge to use the safe in the room, which again seemed unnecessary for an all-inclusive resort.

These are small things individually, but for an all-inclusive resort we would expect basics such as bottled water, tea, coffee and milk to be regularly replenished and the room safe to be included.

We asked if it was possible to move to a larger room and, thankfully, the manager was extremely helpful and managed to accommodate us. I believe we were moved to Block 5000, which in our opinion was in a prime position within the resort. The room was much bigger and considerably better, and the location was excellent. We really appreciated the manager helping us with the move.

Noise & Sleep

One thing potential guests should be aware of is the early-morning noise. Once the evening entertainment finishes, the hotel itself becomes very quiet. It is clearly aimed at families rather than people looking for a late-night party hotel, which we actually liked.

However, there are free-roaming cockerels and hens around the hotel grounds. The cockerels started crowing at around 4:00am every morning and regularly woke us up.

The first morning it was quite amusing. After 14 nights of being woken at around 4:00am, it definitely wasn’t.

We spoke to the hotel staff about it and were told that the birds are free-range and don’t belong to the hotel. That may well be the case and therefore may be outside the hotel’s control. However, the reality for guests is the same, they can seriously disturb your sleep every morning.

If this is a known issue that the hotel cannot control, we feel TUI should make customers aware of this. . Being woken at 4:00am once might be funny; being woken at 4:00am throughout a two-week holiday is very different.

Pools & Beach

The pools are excellent. They are very large, clean and extremely well maintained. There are also daily water activities in the main large pool, which adds to the atmosphere and gives people something different to do during the day.

We were also impressed with how the hotel dealt with people trying to reserve sunbeds. The lifeguards removed unattended towels from sunbeds before around 8:30am, which helped prevent people reserving beds early in the morning and then disappearing for hours.

We generally found that there were plenty of sunbeds available up until around 9:30–10:00am, so there wasn’t the usual need to get up at ridiculous hours just to find somewhere to sit.

The beach is only a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel, which is convenient. However, the beach itself is very rocky, so it may not suit everyone. We were also disappointed that sunbeds and drinks at the beach had to be paid for separately. For guests staying on an all-inclusive package, we felt this should have been included.

Facilities

The hotel has a very good range of facilities, particularly if you enjoy keeping active while on holiday. There was plenty to choose from, including tennis, padel, crazy golf, football pitches, volleyball and basketball.

The facilities and sports areas were all very well maintained, just like the rest of the resort. With the size of the hotel and the amount of activities available, there was always something to do during the day.

Food

The biggest issue for us was the temperature of the food. During our entire stay, it was almost impossible to get a meal that was genuinely warm. I am an early riser and was often one of the first people in the restaurant when breakfast opened at 7:00am. Even food that appeared to have just been cooked was only lukewarm.

There was also a lack of variety, which became particularly noticeable during a two-week stay. Another frustration was that if you went for breakfast or lunch within around 30 minutes of the restaurant closing, the choice became very limited. Staff would already be removing food trays at quite a fast pace and starting the clean-up process. Considering the restaurant was still officially open, this was disappointing.

We also tried the other restaurants around the resort hoping for a bit more variety. The Chinese restaurant was the exception and offered something genuinely different, but apart from that, we found the other restaurants were serving much the same type of food as everywhere else in the resort. For a hotel of this size, and particularly on a 14-night stay, we expected much more variety between the different restaurants.

Drinks

The all-inclusive drinks were very basic. The beer tasted watered down, the house white wine wasn’t particularly nice, and the cocktails included in the package were poor.

Branded alcoholic drinks came with an additional surcharge, and alcoholic drinks in the à la carte restaurants also carried a surcharge. Considering we had already paid for an all-inclusive holiday, we felt the drinks included in the package should have been of a better standard without having to continually pay extra.

Entertainment

The evening entertainment was very good and was definitely one of the positives of the resort. I believe entertainment was provided every night apart from Saturday, and there was a good variety of different shows throughout our 14-night stay.

It wasn’t simply the same type of performance every evening, and the different shows gave you something to look forward to at night. For a two-week stay, we thought the hotel did a very good job with the variety and standard of the entertainment.

Evening Seating & Bar Service

One of our biggest frustrations was trying to find somewhere comfortable to sit and have a drink after the evening entertainment.

The Piano Bar was lovely, but it was quite small, with only around a dozen tables. We also found that the air conditioning wasn’t on in the evenings, which made it uncomfortable.

For a resort of this size, there really wasn’t a comfortable lounge or bar area where you could relax after the entertainment. In reality, if you wanted to sit and have a drink in the evening, you were basically sitting in the hotel’s very large reception area.

The staff did offer table service, but the problem was that you couldn’t simply go and pour your own beer or wine. On several evenings there appeared to be only one server covering the reception area, meaning we sometimes waited up to 20 minutes for a drink.

On a few nights we actually gave up waiting, got up and left. This wasn’t the fault of the member of staff, who was working hard and remained friendly, but there simply wasn’t enough staff covering such a large area.

Overall – Our Experience

My wonderful wife and I have stayed at quite a few all-inclusive resorts over the years, both as a couple and with our children, including resorts in Greece, Spain, the Canary Islands and Portugal. We therefore have a reasonable idea of what to expect from a large all-inclusive resort.

We fully understand that you are sharing a hotel with a large number of other guests and that buffet food isn’t always going to be restaurant quality. We also don’t expect premium branded drinks as standard on every all-inclusive package.

However, there has to be a reasonable standard. In our experience, the food at this resort was consistently lukewarm, the all-inclusive drinks selection was poor, and the early-morning noise from the wildlife became a genuine nuisance.

That is a shame because there is so much that the hotel gets right. The resort is beautiful, spacious, spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained. The pools and sporting facilities are excellent, the entertainment is very good, Kos Town is only a short taxi ride away and, above all, the staff are fantastic — friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful.

But a hotel stay ultimately comes down to some basic things: a comfortable room, being able to sleep properly, decent food and being able to enjoy a drink. For us, those are the areas where Blue Lagoon fell short.

The additional charges also take away from the all-inclusive experience, including alcoholic drinks in the à la carte restaurants, the room safe, and even sunbeds and drinks at the beach.

Based purely on our own experience and compared with the other all-inclusive resorts we have stayed at, we simply couldn’t rate Blue Lagoon as a 5-star all-inclusive experience.

For us, at best, this was a 3-star all-inclusive experience. For others, it may well be a 4-star, depending on what is most important to you on holiday, but we personally don’t feel it offers a 5-star all-inclusive experience.

That doesn’t mean it is a bad hotel, far from it. It is a beautiful resort with fantastic staff, excellent pools and facilities and very good entertainment, but the consistently lukewarm food, poor all-inclusive drinks, basic room facilities, additional charges and, above all, being woken by cockerels at around 4:00am every morning mean we personally would not return. :::

TripAdvisor Review
Watered down 5 star like the beer.

Resort is amazing, pools are great and kids love it. The location is about 25 min walk from Lambi beach, there is no shuttle service and taxis are a nightmare as drivers are unlikely to accept jobs just to pick up as so far out. The bus is great however to Kos and is only 2 euros. If you like a drink the beer and spirits are terrible and you will spend your money at the local shop and having to go out at night. Food very average aswell and because the food areas are so big there are lots of flies knocking around. If your not bothered about having a drink then this resort is fine and you probably won't want to leave, if you have tastebuds and prefer a nice alcoholic drink, unfortunately the bus to Kos is the only way.

Made amazing memories

We stayed at Blue Lagoon Resort as a family ranging from 4 to 60 years old. We normally choose 4 and 5-star hotels, often adults-only, and I’ll admit we’re quite particular about where we stay, so after reading some of the reviews before coming I was slightly worried about what to expect.

Honestly, it has been so much better than I expected. Some of the reviews genuinely made me consider cancelling and I’m SO pleased I didn’t.

Rooms: Absolutely fine! I honestly don’t understand all the moaning about them. They’re clean, comfortable and have everything we need — and who comes to Kos to spend all day sitting in their hotel room anyway?!

Food: No complaints whatsoever. We have one vegetarian and two very fussy small people in our group and everyone has always found plenty to eat. The food is hot, there’s loads of choice and the theme nights give you something different.

The à la carte restaurants are typical of a family all-inclusive — perfectly good and child-friendly. It is what it is, and we’ve enjoyed them.

Pools: Fantastic and really clean. Plenty of choice depending on what sort of day you want.

Sunbeds: If you desperately want a front-row sunbed, get up early! But PLEASE actually use it. Don’t reserve it at silly o’clock and then disappear back to bed for hours. The lifeguards will remove towels from beds that aren’t being used — and quite rightly too!

Main pool: The bars are great and the pancakes around the main pool are a definite hit.

Entertainment: Really good and, importantly for me, it’s not constantly in your face. There’s no booming loud music all day either — an absolute blessing!

Aqua and Aqua Zumba are good fun with really good instructors, although they can feel a little repetitive. And they always seem determined to make everyone connect together for the endings… aghhhh 😂

Water park: We didn’t use it ourselves, but the younger members of our group did and I’m reliably informed it’s brilliant.

My one real disappointment is the timing of the children’s evening entertainment. The children’s disco is at 8.15pm and last night there was a Disney show at 9.30pm. After being in the water and on the go all day, our little ones were in absolutely no fit state to stay awake that late! Such a shame because they were so excited about seeing the Disney show. An earlier family show would be brilliant.

And one tiny British complaint… a cup of tea around the pool comes in a plastic glass. YUK YUK YUK! 😂 Please give us tea drinkers a proper cup!

The staff throughout the resort have been lovely — friendly, helpful and very attentive.

As I said, we usually stay in 4 and 5-star hotels and often choose adults-only, so I don’t think we came here with particularly low expectations or are easily pleased! But you also have to judge a hotel for what it is — this is a large, busy, family all-inclusive resort, and it does that really well.

If you’re reading some of the negative reviews and panicking like I was — don’t. Obviously everyone has different expectations, but as a family aged 4–60, we’ve had a fantastic time here. ☀️💦

Always lovely to stay here

We’ve been coming here since 2011, it’s the perfect place to bring our family to relax for two weeks. It was lovely to see some familiar faces in the staff. Konstantina the bar manager was very accommodating and all her staff seemed really happy and were all so friendly and accommodating. The twins in the main pool bar were fab and friendly this year too.

Can’t wait to come back in 2028!
