Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We here now, easy check in, rooms ok fresh towels everyday, air con good, lack of sunbeds and parasols around the pool, they need a lot more it’s that busy! Good food plenty of variety George is a great host in the restaurant, drinks are crap, warm and very basic, soft drinks aren’t great either, it’s a chore asking for ice! It should be on the bar self service, snack bar is rubbish cold chips soggy bun horrible cheap burgers, lack of toilets in public areas! People getting up at 6am to put towels out, all gone by 8am! It’s ridiculous and needs sorting out! People leaving towels on beds all day and not even using them! Nice pool but too busy! Expensive supermarket on site, plenty of bars and restaurants on the strip up the road. Close to airport planes coming over very frequently but not an issue.
We are here now,we are frequent travelers and came here via recommendation via Facebook. On arrival we were checked in nice and quickly and taken to our room, which was ok.I can't comment on the dining aspect as we didn't use the restaurant at all (our choice as we like to eat out) but we did eat from the pool barxwhich was ok.Our biggest problem is the Evening where there is little to Entertainment, we had an English lady singing 1 night who to be fair was good and interacted with the audience. There are plenty of seats outside on the balcony but just a handful inside where it is Air-conditioned, You shouldn't have to drink out of plastic cups in a 4 star hotel. The drinks are Not of an acceptable standard, especially the cocktail list on AI. It's as though the bar staff are not trained in how to make any thing apart from beer and wine which you get yourself. If you want ice ( WHICH YOU NEED AS THE DRINKS COME OUT WARM FROM THE SELF SERVICE MACHINE) you then have to queue up to be served by the 1 person behind the bar which defeats the object, THe other big problem is the pool, you have signs saying you cannot RESERVE sunbeds before 9 am? You shouldn't be allowed to reserve sunbeds at all. This Resulted in people standing by sunbeds 8.45 putting towels down and dissapppearing for hours ,meaning people who have paid over a thousand pounds for a holiday have no access to place to relax.I can't fault the staff I have met but can't recommend people to come here on this basis
This was our second visit to Golden Sun and again you did not disappoint. The staff are all amazing. George in the restaurant remembered us from last year and gave us warm and hearty welcome. The food in the restaurant was amazing. Always something to eat even if you’re a fussy eater like my son. Thank you chef. My daughter had a birthday whilst there and George helped with decorating the table. The chef made an amazing cake and the staff came over singing happy birthday to her. Polly in the pool bar, what a legend. She was absolutely fantastic, always smiling, happy and singing. The hot food was cheese burgers, hot dogs, fries and onion rings and were absolutely amazing. Cold food was filled rolls or fruit pots. If you didn’t want salad in your roll she’d make one for you without it. All were delicious. The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day to a high standard. The pool area was kept clean with staff collecting cups regularly. Alida in the lobby bar was lovely, smiling and welcoming. Stathis on reception was fantastic too having to order us taxi’s into town (normally we’d walk) but some days 40 plus degrees and high humidity made it too much for us. You do get airplane noise but let’s be honest if your staying 15 minutes from airport what do you expect. We enjoyed seeing the planes coming over and guessing which one it might be! Hayley the singer on Friday nights was brilliant. All the songs we all know and love and sing along to. We had a fantastic holiday and let’s be honest all the staff were amazing but the ones I’ve mentioned by name really stood out to us as being 5 star staff. Thank you all for a brilliant holiday and we will be returning 😃
Beautiful place, villas were superb absolutely spotless, spacious and really comfortable One suggestion would be a parasol in the patio area as the sun was relentless. Breakfast was lovely and all staff were exceptional Special mention goes to Emeliono who was a credit to the place Also Kelly at the pool was lovely Altogether absolute recommendation for anyone considering
Just got back yesterday from The Golden Sun ,which on the whole is a good hotel .....a few little changes and it could be a great hotel . First of all reception ,very friendly and helpful ,had an issue with the safe ,which was swiftly dealt with . The room was ,small & adequate, for 1 week only......great shower . Room service very good , ground floor room which looked out onto the beautiful ,very well kept gardens . Hotel location is at the end of the runway ,more or less ....the aircraft flyovers & noise , didn't bother me one bit , you get used to it . The restaurant is ok , George on the door is fantastic and a credit to the hotel . The food is ok but only for a 1 week stay , I found it a bit repetitive, but over the week it was ok ...my wife apart from salad found it hard to string a meal together as she is vegetarian......only my opinion,as plenty of people were enjoying it, filling their plates and returning to fill again. The pool area is good , sunbeds are sometimes scarce , due to people from all nationalities claiming beds for the whole family and disappearing for hours at a time & also claiming a bed next to them ,so nobody was near them......a lot of miserable people & families of all ages.....some unable to crack a smile. The beach is only a 3 minute walk and the strip a 10 minute walk.
The bad bits . The drinks were shockingly poor . Syrup sugary cocktails .....the local Baileys was tasted like powdered milk with a hint of a Whiskey flavour. The non alcoholic local beer. The diet coke was good . The music around the pool was dire, read the room , it was like going to a 60th birthday party ,where they played garage music & should be a variety of music for all ages . Evening entertainment as above. The oven in the pool bar to keep the chips ...lukewarm/ cold needs turning up ....ice cream ok . My opinion only ,but if the hotel went to half board , upped there entertainment, even SKY (for the football) & quality of drinks and I would happily pay and not leave the hotel ....although the posh exclusive area of the hotel looked souless . First time back in Greece for a while , experienced Kalamaki , but I wouldn't be in a rush to come back. Like I said my opinion only , people return to The Golden Sun ,year after year , so lots of people are extremely happy here and good on them .
