The Bay Hotel and Suites

The Bay is a lovely hotel situated in a beautiful and quiet location. You’ll need car hire if you want to explore from this base. It’s miles away from the next town.

The decor is lovely and the pool and beach area well maintained. The beach and sea are stunning.

My sister travels a lot, globally and has stayed in many many 5* locations. This hotel falls a little short of a 5* experience. It’s the first time we’ve arrived at a hotel of this calibre and not been greeted with welcome beverages while we check in. It’s a tiny detail, but one you expect from a hotel in this price bracket.

There were times when one member of staff on the reception was really quite rude. Especially when my sister asked to keep on our room and also when we telephoned for assistance for the aircon. These requests were politely made!

We had a room for three but were consistently only given two large bath towels. We politely requested more several times by calling reception only for them to say they’d be sent, but they never materialised. On one of the requests (in person) my sister was again given quite a rude and abrupt response and still…no additional towel.

On arrival our room was full Of ants as the door had been left ajar. This wasn’t ideal for a late night arrival. It would be far better to leave the door closed and pop on the air conditioning for arriving guests.

The dining experience we enjoyed, and the head waiter is amazing. He works so hard. Solomon also deserves a mention for his hard work and service. The service and waiting staff are really superb in general, we watched them serve some incredibly rude people with decorum and grace.

The gym was continually busy and well used, but some of the equipment was out of order for the duration of our stay.

It has so much potential to live up to its 5* rating, but for us it sadly did fall short of the mark on the little details that make the difference between good and outstanding.

Forget a 5* treatment. They have a tennis court, a spa, beautiful beach and pool but they miss many basics that are a must for a top rated hotel. Most of the hotel staff is not professional and provide wrong information in some cases. The laundry service is of very low quality. Swimming pool and beach areas are cleaned late in the morning (around 8am) so if you want to spend time early morning in the beach and pool, you are surrounded by people cleaning these areas. The dining experience is well below the bar: no drink is included in half board treatment (not even water), the quality and selection of food in the menu is average, the available wines are all Greek except champagne, they do not keep red wines in a separate refrigerator at 18C, you can have them at room temperature (around 27C) or at regular refrigerator temperature (around 6C). In the fixed set dinner included in the half board the starters are expected to be shared among different persons but they come without spoon/fork/knife. The beds in the room are inadequate for a 5* hotel, few tiles in my room were broken and the temperature of sanitary water cannot be regulated due to uneven flows of hot water in the hotel’s pipelines. I had to call a technician of the hotel to fix broken light switch and defective electric socket and door lock. In the room you don’t have any soft drinks, alcohol or snacks. The coffee capsules of the machine in the room are not replaced regularly after you consume them. The room is attended by housekeeping only once and not twice a day and it’s very noisy. The breakfast opens at 8.00am that is too late expecially considering the long drive needed to reach some areas of the island (sometimes over one hour). The breakfast doesn’t include sparkling water or pancakes and eggs are not cooked on the spot, moreover the selection of desserts is very poor.
