A visit to Pompeii offers an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of ancient Rome.
Pompe resides on a plateau of Vesuvian lava overlooking the Sarno river valley. The city was destroyed by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD, but the remains of Roman civilisation were rediscovered in the 16th century and exploration began in 1748 under the reign of Charles III of Bourbon Thanks to the ash and lava, which petrified the city while preserving the entire ‘valley’, it is still possible to admire the buildings that founded the city.
Our guide will take you through the labyrinth of the ancient Cardini and Decumani connecting the most significant buildings of the city; the Forum which was the main square of the city, the Basilica dedicated to the administration of justice and for commercial negotiations, the Roman Villas, the Baths and much more. The walk will last about two hours.
In the second part of the excursion you will visit Herculaneum. The city was submerged by a torrent of mud and lava that hardened into a soft tufa that preserved many wooden parts of houses and household objects that can be seen in perfect condition today.
