Cornucopia Hotel

TripAdvisor Review
Malta and Gozo, Europe
Xaghra

A stay at the charming four star Cornucopia Hotel, set on a high ridge, overlooking the rich, fertile Gozo valleys and out to Marsalforn Bay, is one of the best ways to really get in touch with these 'real' and unspoilt islands.

The Cornucopia Hotel is set in the village of Xaghra, a charming and fascinating spot, and steeped in the culture and history of the island. Ramla Bay is also nearby – a popular tourist destination thanks to its sandy beach – one of the few on the islands.

The Cornucopia Hotel offers holidaymakers a rich holiday experience in beautiful Gozo:

Beautifully converted from an old farmhouse, the Cornucopia Hotel is one of Gozo's most characterful locations. Behind the rustic exterior is a hotel of rare quality; there is certainly nothing rustic about the accommodation. You'll marvel at the superb restaurant with its vaulted roof, fall in love with its courtyard swimming pool and want to sit for hours admiring the wide open views from your balcony.

The Cornucopia Hotel is set up for your comfort and enjoyment. With a smaller capacity than many of the hotels on the islands, it has a very homely feel to it. It's more than just a base for your Maltese adventures; it's a genuine home away from home, albeit with all sorts of luxurious add-ons!

Take your pick of the two pools on offer, enjoy a lazy afternoon or long evening at the terrace bar overlooking the Gozo valleys or spend some quiet moments enjoying the picturesque gardens, the Cornucopia Hotel really lives up to its name.

Twin and double rooms are available, all air-conditioned/heated and boasting their own private balcony. There is even a wonderful honeymoon suite, complete with its own Jacuzzi.

Holidaymakers looking for a rich assortment of activities and opportunities to explore will love Xaghra and the Cornucopia Hotel. With its expansive views, unspoilt villages and fascinating harbours, it is a rich melting pot, steeped in the unique character of these wonderful islands.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

A lot of great churches and history!

Review by MrIncredible007 Devon, United Kingdom

Myself and my other half made our first trip to Malta and it was a fab. The beds were double as opposed to single or twins which many hotels have in the country. The location was great and I like traditional places, lots of walking and eating! Fab SH

Another excellent stay

Review by Chris G Codicote, United Kingdom

We returned to stay having first busted in February 2020, just before lockdown . Our first holiday was so successful they we had recommended it to friends and we also wanted to return. We were not disappointed. The hotel is ideally paced for exploring the island by public transport and walking...

The staff are most friendly and helpful. The accommodation is comfortable without being ostentatious. The food is excellent. We had half board and enjoyed different choices every night in our 10 day stay. The views across the countryside from the valley side rooms are worth paying the extra for.

Can’t praise enough!

Review by Naomi P London, United Kingdom

Apologies Brian for not writing this review sooner! I have nothing but praise for the absolutely fantastic location and even better customer care! Unfortunately my husband came down with Covid shortly after we arrived and we had to quarantine for 14 days. They were happy let us stay when I was worried we might have to move- luckily we were in one of the apartments which was spacious and well equipped. We especially appreciated being able to use the large private terrace with a great view...

Nothing was too much trouble for Brian and his staff in trying to help us through this stressful experience. This included Brian personally going into the village for items that we couldn’t buy online and personally driving us into the village for our one night out after quarantine ended on an evening of torrential rain, They made what could have been an awful experience quite like a pleasant retreat and we were so grateful for their kindness. And there was plenty of variety in the very pleasant and reasonably priced food.

Overdue repeat visit after seven years

Review by Ursula D London, United Kingdom

After seven years I returned to Gozo, this time with my partner, and again stayed in the lovely and comfortable Cornucopia Hotel. Our room was quite large, with a small patio overlooking the quiet road and views towards Marsalforn. It seemed the rooms had been upgraded, the furnishings were definitely much better than last time, there was plenty of storage space, a TV with international channels, and a spacious bathroom. WiFi in the room was also much better, but best on the little terrace in front of the room...

Cleanliness was excellent. Breakfast was included, and although buffet style, it was served by the staff because of Covid restrictions. There was all you needed for a full English breakfast, although we stuck to a light Continental one. There was juice, croissants and rolls, toast, jam, cereal, yoghurt, some cheese and cold cuts etc. I wish there'd been a better choice of fresh fruit instead of the fruit salad, but we certainly didn't go hungry.
We stayed for dinner one night, and the food was definitely much improved from last time. The choice for my vegetarian partner was limited, but fine for a short stay. My mushroom starter was ok, but my main course of pumpkin and truffle risotto was fabulous. He thought his mains of penne aglio olio and peperoncini was a little light, but we both very much enjoyed our desserts: lemon meringue pie and pear tart, utterly delicious. The wine list is very good, but we just had to try a local red - a Victoria Heights merlot, very quaffable and just EUR14 for a full bottle. October was a bit past the swimming season, but it was still nice relaxing by the two lovely pools, and I even braved the coolish water to swim. The location is just about walking distance from the village square, and a bus stop slightly closer. Being just outside the centre means it's peaceful and quiet. The staff a very helpful and friendly, and Peter at reception is a treasure. The best place to stay in Xaghra!

Great place to unwind and relax

Review by MalTeas London, United Kingdom

Just back home home a lovely two week stay at the Cornucopia. It was our second visit and we wanted a relaxing quiet break and the hotel did not disappoint. The hotel has bags of charm and nothing is too much trouble...

You are made to feel very welcome from each and every member of staff. We went Half Board this visit and the meals were excellent. The village is very nice and everyone you meet is very friendly. We are looking forward to our next visit already. Well done to Brian and his excellent team.
