shocked to witness a distressing incident involving Mike (waiter / supervisor?) shouting at a young girl

Generally our experience at this hotel was acceptable but I was prompted to write a review after witnessing something very distressing at this hotel. On our third day we were sitting near the door to the dining room when a young girl entered for breakfast with an old lady. The girl was carrying their luggage ...

A man who we later discovered was called Mike ran over to her and loomed over her, shouting at her for the delay (which could not have been more than a few seconds)in putting her face mask on. the girl and old woman stood there seemingly in shock while they were loudly berated by this man for the brief gap between the coming in through the door and putting her mask on. He didn't stop going at them for a while

when he finally moved away and stopped shouting at them, the old lady broke down in tears and since they sat close to us, we saw that the young girl spent the rest of their time there attempting to comfort her. presumably they had either just arrived or were departing - either way being screamed at hardly seems an appropriate welcome or goodbye

No one went to this girl's assistance and I felt ashamed to be a complicit witness to this but I was worried about the consequences for myself and my husband of getting involved and potentially being on the receiving end of more of Mike's anger , particularly sicne we are elderly. this was the third day of our holiday we did see more rude treatment of customers by the restaurant staff, but nothing on the scale of the girl who got cornered and shouted at by Mike for not being fast enough in pulling the mask out from her pocket

I am not sure how this person has a job at any hotel, frankly . I havent ever seen hotel staff shouting at customers before and I have travelled a great deal

Extremely dated and low standard hotel

We were very disappointed when we visited Qawva Palace Hotel. When we were given our first room it was disgusting, hair in the bath, dirty toilet and very poor dated tatty decor. We did change rooms after dealing with a very rude and can’t be bothered receptionist, the room was better but not great...

The best thing about the hotel was the friendly and polite housekeeping staff. Your relaxing lie down and enjoying the sun on a dirty and run worn mattress on a sun bed will be interrupted at 4.30pm by the ‘ pool staff’ clearing away sun beds and hosing down the pool area and you will get wet as they don’t seem to care who is there. Also major building work drilling next to the hotel every day apart from Sunday for 12 hours plus. Such a shame as we visited places in Malta and the country is beautiful.

Disappointing

Review by kathrabC Leicester, United Kingdom

Hotel reception ignorant very blunt not informative/not friendly?? Room was ok clean /adequate except the sink when used the whole room smelled like a sewer. Asked to get sorted never was. Asked for sea view never got it .Air con was barely working wasn’t worth using didn’t want to get Unwell from it...

The fridge didn’t work unless card for electric was left in and when we did the maid kept removing it ruined our snacks we put in and sour milk. At the pool bar if you were sitting there around 4:30/4:45 they’d get the hose out they happily soak your things if in their way. I get they need to clean but why not put sign up or ask you to move. People were chilling/eating/drinking?? The Entertainment was atrocious. And the whole hotel surrounded by building works!! The noise the dust the traffic?? Why was we not informed this hotel wasn’t a budget one. The food wasn’t cooked lots of the time the choice was rubbish eh ho for cheese and crackers and toast! First time in Malta probably the last.

Fantastic Holiday

We were very happy with the service we received whilst staying at Qawra palace. The staff were very friendly and polite. On the second day of our trip we had to witness a middle aged lady swear and shout at a waiter we learnt to be Mike, because he told her she needed to have a mask on apon entrance to restaurant and not when seated...

We listened to her for almost an hour abusing this young man who went above and beyond to help us enjoy our holiday, advising on trips to take, bus routes and times and local places of interest we could access with me having mobility problems. Robert the reservation manager was very helpful when we had a problem with the room we were in. Sylvaner on reception was extremely welcoming when we approached reception. We will definitely be visiting again with our family in September and look forward to seeing the completed building work. Hopefully the entertainment will be on when we return as that was the only thing we lacked.
