Santana Hotel

TripAdvisor Review
Malta and Gozo, Europe
Qawra

Right at the heart of Qawra, right at the heart of the action, the Santana hotel has to be one of Malta's most desirable spots. With its light sea blue livery, the hotel signposts its location – just a minute from the seafront itself.

The Qawra seafront is a favourite spot for holidaymakers, with its many shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Beyond the promenade is another of its main attractions, the rocky beach, a haven for swimmers and sun bathers – and a great place to explore. Qawra is also home to some of Malta's most prized cultural sites too – no visit is complete without a trip to the historical towers and the church of St Francis of Assisi.

The Santana Hotel gives you a little bit of everything Malta has to offer:

Even with such a perfect location, the Santana Hotel is more than just a base for exploring and enjoying Malta. It is, after all, a four star hotel with four star facilities to match.

There's a Wellness club offering over 80 health & beauty therapy treatments (at a fee ) and adding to the spa feel is a sauna and the opportunity for a massage (at a fee). The Santana Hotel has its own fitness room too, so you can maintain your customary fitness regime, plus a superb wellness centre with over plenty of treatments available.

After all of that, you can pick and choose one of the bars or restaurant's to while away a few pleasant hours in the evening.

Guests of the Santana Hotel often like to round things off by staying to enjoy the hotel's own schedule of entertainment – it does make for a very sociable end to the day.

Finally to bed. All rooms are comfortably furnished and feature a balcony – so you can look out at the twinkling lights of Qawra. All rooms feature an en suite bathroom, most have a bath/shower and some just have showers. Rooms also feature tip top amenities like satalite TV (with pay TV), radio and hairdryer. Another bonus – keeping the temperature just right is a cinch with the centrally controlled air conditioning. Rooms were fully renovated in 2019 including the bathrooms. All rooms free Wi-Fi and free use of safe.

The Santana Hotel is as much a reason to choose Qawra for your Maltese holiday destination as the towers of the Knights of St John, or the beaches or the accessibility to other locations. Choosing the right hotel really is that important.

Great hotel St Paul’s Malta

Review by Barnsey7514 Plymouth, United Kingdom

Really lovely hotel. Stayed here December 2021. Breakfast and dinner buffet, very nice options and most importantly all the food was hot...

Menu changes daily. Room comfortable and in a quiet location but close to everything St Paul’s has to offer. Staff very friendly especially in the restaurant. Will definitely use on my next visit to Malta.

Things have changed

Review by BrendaH520 Hebburn, England, United Kingdom

Have stayed here a few times before but things have definitely changed. The room decor is so much better but a few things need updating. The bed is fine but the mattress is terrible so far I have two sore hips and the pillows could do with updating...

The tv is of good size and quality but very few English speaking channels, perhaps invest in a sky package? The breakfast is as before adequate with a reasonable choice and the restaurant is scrupulously clean. The coffee shop is ok but if you serve cocktails please teach the bar man how to make them, I ordered a margarita tonight which was served in a martini glass, no salt rim and was the most luminous shade of green I have ever seen, we could not work out how he managed it but it caused quite a few comments and speculations amongst the customers sitting around us. I know there is a lot of building work going on around the hotel but the noise within the hotel is bordering on unacceptable. I do not know what is above my room which is on the third floor but furniture in the room above seems to be being dragged along it most hours of the waking day, I am going to have to ask for a room change if it does not improve soon. We came back to this hotel because it was central to everything but I think next year we will have to change location! Still on holiday here for another week.

Lovely holiday

Had lovely holiday early December first 2 weeks with friends.Food great, staff so well trained and polite and place spotless only one fault I could find was that despite notice at entrance to lift in reception advising that due to Covid only people sharing same room should travel together other people were very annoyed when asked not to enter and got very angry with us and we had to exit lift to let them in.May I suggest that you also put this notice in each lift to avoid tension amongst guests as people dont seem to read outside notice.

A very happy and comfortable stay.

Review by Tj J United Kingdom

Very friendly and helpful staff, ViVi and Olivia is an asset to the company. We were booked in for 16nights stay, the comfort room we were given were too far off fro. The elevators as my husband is disable, ViVi and Olivia then helped us to relocate to another comfort room just next to the elevators which is so helpful and convenient for my husband...

Vivi even arranged a staff Sam to move our luggage. Am well pleased and thankful for thier help.

The hotel buffet breakfast is well laid, hotel is clean and the room is spacious and cleaned everyday.

Well worth the money.

Reasonable hotel, strange management practices....

This hotel has a lot going for it - great physical amenity, excellent location, near bus station, clean and well appointed rooms, free wifi and very competitive dynamic pricing especially in off-season periods. But there are also some issues that should be addressed by management before one could recommend the hotel unreservedly. (1) The indoor wellness area and jacuzzi are useless...

The jacuzzi was not heated, and remained cold even after requests to heat it. Nobody used it in the entire week we were there. Sauna is also charged extra, and rarely used. So don’t expect to have a functioning wellness area. (2) We asked for a twin room on a higher floor, but on arrival we got a queen room on a middle floor instead. A change was offered next day, but we had to wait till the afternoon to be able to move, ruining our first day, even though the room we were moving to was empty from the morning. Reception either did not ask for it to be cleaned early, or housekeeping failed to clean it. Either way, very poor communication and poor management practices. A room that a guest is already waiting for in house should always be cleaned first! Our complaint to the duty manager / front office manager elicited no meaningful response. (3) unannounced price changes – we were advised of a half pension package on arrival, but when we wanted to buy it the next day, were told that the price has increased – nobody in the hotel had any advance warning of the impending price increase. Prices, once offered to guests, should be honoured unless increases are advised in advance! (4) Breakfast was of reasonable quality, but very monotonous for a one-week stay – the same every day! Some variety would be welcome! Dinner variety was better. Overall, a pleasant hotel for the price, but unusable wellness area is a real handicap in off-season periods. As there is also a lot of building nearby, some rooms are quite noisy, although there is good balcony sound insulation.
