Santana Hotel

TripAdvisor Review
Malta and Gozo, Europe
Qawra

Right at the heart of Qawra, right at the heart of the action, the Santana hotel has to be one of Malta's most desirable spots. With its light sea blue livery, the hotel signposts its location – just a minute from the seafront itself.

The Qawra seafront is a favourite spot for holidaymakers, with its many shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Beyond the promenade is another of its main attractions, the rocky beach, a haven for swimmers and sun bathers – and a great place to explore. Qawra is also home to some of Malta's most prized cultural sites too – no visit is complete without a trip to the historical towers and the church of St Francis of Assisi.

The Santana Hotel gives you a little bit of everything Malta has to offer:

Even with such a perfect location, the Santana Hotel is more than just a base for exploring and enjoying Malta. It is, after all, a four star hotel with four star facilities to match.

There's a Wellness club offering over 80 health & beauty therapy treatments (at a fee ) and adding to the spa feel is a sauna and the opportunity for a massage (at a fee). The Santana Hotel has its own fitness room too, so you can maintain your customary fitness regime, plus a superb wellness centre with over plenty of treatments available.

After all of that, you can pick and choose one of the bars or restaurant's to while away a few pleasant hours in the evening.

Guests of the Santana Hotel often like to round things off by staying to enjoy the hotel's own schedule of entertainment – it does make for a very sociable end to the day.

Finally to bed. All rooms are comfortably furnished and feature a balcony – so you can look out at the twinkling lights of Qawra. All rooms feature an en suite bathroom, most have a bath/shower and some just have showers. Rooms also feature tip top amenities like satalite TV (with pay TV), radio and hairdryer. Another bonus – keeping the temperature just right is a cinch with the centrally controlled air conditioning. Rooms were fully renovated in 2019 including the bathrooms. All rooms free Wi-Fi and free use of safe.

The Santana Hotel is as much a reason to choose Qawra for your Maltese holiday destination as the towers of the Knights of St John, or the beaches or the accessibility to other locations. Choosing the right hotel really is that important.

Lovely hotel and Spa

Review by sarahlM1366WI Yeovil, United Kingdom

Spent a week here, my third time here. Hotel is always clean, food is good and location is perfect next to bars, shops and local bus station. This time I treated myself to a massage at the Cleopatra Spa with Leila, it was lovely, very relaxing and good value.

Very chilled out relaxing holiday!

Review by emmaandpaulwilliams Thornaby on Tees, United Kingdom

Stayed 15th sept for 10 nights. Lovely hotel great rooftop pool not too busy quiet area. We found pubs and restaurants close by by using google maps, didnt have a bad meal in hotel either and lunch at the bar at the front of the hotel...

We were half board but still ate out a few times. Zazen garden lovely good entertainment (singers) Felt really safe walking about even on back streets. Went on open top bus that comes outside hotel to visit valletta and st juliennes we could/should of got off as its a hop on hop off bus but we didnt. Beautiful buildings and scenery. Didnt see one beach werent bothered as we dont go on the beach. Was short walk to bugibba square and short walk to big hotels and nice resturaunts at tip of st pauls bay. First hotel ive ever had to upgrade room as it was so small, never thought twice when booking just wanted balcony, we upgraded to a suite which was fabulous (we did pay) it was at front of hotel. Just take note when booking. Yes as stated aircon goes off by a timer and when in small room that was a massive problem. Very easy bus depot just ask where you want to go they will tell you. Pubs nearby Alexs and murphys a must! Overall very cheap to eat and drink out cheapest holiday we've ever had. It was refreshing to walk along the main streets with bars and restaurants and not have people constantly trying to pull you in. Went in sauna and indoor poor with jacuzzi had it to ourself which was nice, i dont think people use it often. Staff are all brilliant!

Ignore poor recent reviews - this is a good place to spend two weeks

We stayed here for two weeks so I would say we have the most experience to comment on the hotel and are shocked by some of the recent inaccurate reviews.

Firstly the hotel is good value for money, as advertised and definitely 4 star standard.

Location is great. Near to the main bus station and other shops/bars. The beach is a few minutes walk away...

I love this area as it is developing but not not too busy like more established resorts on the island.

Staff are outstanding. Big thank you to Olivia and Živilė on reception - real credit to the hotel as first customer engagement. Evis and Francesca on the cafe/bar - so friendly, welcoming and attentive to your needs.

We had two issues during our stay but no need to detail them as they were one offs so other than they were dealt with quickly, helpful and appropriately.

Air con in room is excellent and yes a period of a few hours in the morning when it takes a break is fine. Our second room was excellent size and well resourced.

Food - I don't understand what people are expecting at an all inclusive hotel. The breakfast was worth getting up for sausages, bacon, eggs, beans on the hot side. Cheese and meats, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and pastries for a cold option. Yes the hot drink machine broke at one point but it was quickly repaired so not sure what other reviewers are grumbling at. Juices also available.

Dinner - also a fish option and 4 meat options in a range of different styles/sauces. Vegetables and potatoe based sides available. There is always a pasta dish or two to pick from as well. And salad options too. Desserts also plentiful and delightful.

We only had lunch a couple of times and it was just a slightly reduced dinner selection style so nothing to grumble at.

You can also get sandwiches, wraps and baguettes at the café which are amazing and as the menus are helpfully displayed each day on screens you can always opt for a something from the cafe if the menu doesn't take your fancy (though it would be a real bad day if something didn't tempt you on the menu!)

Drinks are as expected (strong in some cases!) and worth the all inclusive.

Pool is great and perhaps one or two more shaded areas could be available but if guests didn't decide to take a lounger in the sun and a lounger in the shade then everyone could be catered for.

Will we go back ... Yes.

Hotel Santana

I have just returned from Malta staying here at the Hotel Santana. I would like to say I was very disappointed when I returned home and found I had left my brand new hair straighteners in my room. When I enquired several times they were not found by the cleaning staff...

I spoke to several members of staff including the head of house keeping. All saying the cleaner didnt find them . This has put a black mark against this hotel for me and I will not be returning. This is not the first time this has happened at this hotel . Like the others person said , dont forget any valuables when you leave as they will not be returned....
