Centrally placed within Qawra the hotel provides easy and convenient access to the nearby shops and restaurants while a wider selection can be found in nearby Bugibba. We stayed at their 2 bed sea view apartment. Pros: lovely Seaview, relatively spacious for our family of 4, indoor pool was better than expected, well priced (stayed in November), luzzu restaurant by the hotel has a great soft play for the toddler
Cons: lots of construction in the surrounding areas ie dusty, apartment not clean, lumps of dust on the fan unit, walls not sound proof, kitchen equipment limited, odd layout of the apartment, no recycling, no air conditioning, apartment was very warm even in November with fan units on full blast, cannot imagine what it would be like in the summer!!
Conclusion: would stay again if on a limited budget and needing 2 bedrooms, but definitely not in the summer
We normally stay at Seashells but this is being renovated so we were moved to Sunny coast. The apartment was very nice and clean. There were kitchen facilities but no tea or coffee makings supplied...
We had breakfast at Seashells for first 3 days and had breakfast delivered to the apartment the rest of the week as we are full board at Seashells. This was a very tasty, generous meal which was hot despite coming up to the 7th floor
Sunny Coast Resort...this resort is without any doubt the worst place I have stayed to...unprofessional staff, unsafe facilities, outdated apartments with old cranky and smelly furnishings, stained beds and awful bathroom facilities!! We reported the balcony balustrade as a huge safety hazard to fall from 4th floor, the hotel receptionust Dylan made a note in their "book" but no-one followed up and we have been forced to continue staying in the apartment as the hotel refused to provide us with alternative suitable accommodation. I strongly recommend you think twice before booking at thua resort as you will be ruining your holiday. We booked with confidence via RCI timeshare exchange, double disappointed that RCI have put us at risk and responded very slowly to our concerns and it took them three days to movr us at a different hotel
AX Seashell Resort - Malta
On arrival Straight away we were enticed by a €10 Euro a day) deduction if we cleaned our own room, collected our own towels and toilet paper from reception. They charged €2 Euros to borrow a beach towel and €2 Euros each time you change it. There is a €7 Hotel tax that we didn’t expect...
Breakfast was ok although never hot enough. There is choice of cooked English, cold buffet, fruit, hot and cold drinks. Lunch was great. This is the last two weeks of opening until it is closed for a huge extension and refurbishment, hard to believe as it’s condition is tip top although there were unpleasant odours in certain areas ranging from gasoline to drains. A great place for a rest apart from the 12 barking but beautiful dogs belonging to one of the neighbours waking us up at 7am. Avoid being accommodated on that side of the hotel if you don’t want that type of noise.
Entertainment was professional and best suited to the mature traveller, may be different in high season.?Prime drinks are not included in the all inclusive although that seemed to depend on which bar you drank from. An empty fridge is available in the rooms with a daily issue of bottled water. Malta has Great places to visit and this hotel is a great base to see the sights.
The hotel facilities are spread over several sites. Not sure if the hotel manage and run them or if there is a reciprocal arrangement. Gym, bar, restaurant across the road.
We also ate at cheeky Monkey who had an all inclusive menu linked to the hotel, but when asked about all inclusive the night before they denied they were anything to do with the hotel arrangement.
Portion sizes throughout the hotel are enormous!! Guaranteed it will be difficult to complete a dish. We started to ask for half size portions as one portion can easily feed 2 people. All meals were tasty and presentable, just too large….
When we first arrived we needed to ask reception regarding most things. What’s this, what’s that. Where’s this! Nothing was clear snd things changed frequently and inconsistently. Cab service booked via the hotel claimed €35 on booking but charged €40 on delivery. That would have paid to hire a car for the day.
Suzana working at Luzzu over 18 restaurant was excellent. A genuine lovely manner. I would want all service staff to be like Suzana although all the staff at the resort had a polite, professional manner. The lunch at Luzzu was first class. The kofta and rice absolutely delicious. 5*****stars.
Dinner at Luzzu (across the road)was good. Portions as I’ve said are massive, difficult to eat a three course meal, you really need ‘share every dish’. The only manageable sized portion is the pudding!. You are left feeling glutinous for eating so much. Can’t praise the food quality enough. Too much waste as I request one kofti instead of 3, half portions, no chips, etc but requests are always declined with the statement ‘That’s how it comes’. Big up Neville who appeared to have a warm, fair relationship with the staff he worked with and provided an attentive service to customers. The environment was extremely different when Neville wasn’t on duty: rushed, stressed, I even heard a staff member swear!!!! Staff explained they had been extremely busy all day telling me the kitchen closes at 21.30. It made dinner feel very unsettling. I could not eat comfortably so asked for a container for the remainder of my food, then left. Don’t book after 20.30hrs.

There is a lot to see in Malta, i’ve been advised to avoid July and August due to the crowds and excessive heat. Our October stay was met with a-lot of rain predicted in the forecast. Maltese rain can be stormy so bring your waterproof’s.
We hired a vehicle for three days that worked out reasonable and had no difficulty getting around using sat nav although parking may prove difficult. As it’s free. The bus service is pretty regular and affordable.
Take a trip to Golden Bay beach small but pretty, €5 for a beach lounger. lots of places for eats and drink. Sliema great if you want city vibes, plenty of high street outlets and coffee shops. The area is buzzing with activity but again major parking issues so best travel by bus. Our only negative experience was at Lidl in Marsaxlokk where the cashier was as rude as can be. It began when we attempted to use our Lidl plus, we were told it wasn’t working and her whole attitude was wrong to the point of her throwing the receipt in my box which I removed then childishly threw it in myself to demonstrate the behaviour for her to observe. Lidl employing the wrong people. Big up Steve and Lesley from the Excursion shops. Big up Axa @ Sunset for looking after us. Looking forward to returning to Malta once the refurb complete. Doubt I’ll be flying Ryanair who need to take the multitude of negative reviews seriously.
We are staying here at the present and just wanted to make everyone aware about the size of the apartments. We have been using RCI for over 20 years and have never been disappointed with our apartment until now. We are in a 2 bed apartment overlooking a building site with a balcony that is so narrow you have to sit like on a bus and also only accessible from someone’s bedroom ...
The kitchen/ lounge is very small with no natural light and a small uncomfortable sofa that seats 2 /3 max - there are four of us. We have asked every day if there is something bigger but just get told - that’s the RCI room so what do you want us to do about it! The hotel is spotlessly clean and in a very good location but we came away to celebrate a wedding anniversary and a birthday and comparing with what we would expect from RCI we are bitterly disappointed .
