Summer holiday in Malta
Had a great week in AX Sunny coast. Room was clean... everything was lovely. The beach club catered for all. Pool for the kids and an area for couples at the end (to avoid the screaming). The lads in the bar kept us hydrated all week with very good measures of long island iced teas and mojitos. All in all we were well looked after and would recommend. Bonus feature of the location is that you're able to get a boat trip from around the corner to gozo/comino for blue and crystal and corral lagoons.
More negatives than positives
I'm giving a 3 star at a push. Let's start with the positives. Good location.. Pool area clean.. Staff very freindly.. Easy access to water sports.. Now the negatives.. Pool open to the public which means it gets really busy and its not the biggest of pools also its sea water which is not to everyone's liking.. The rooms are very dated really needs upgrade and only cleaned every 3 days.. The lifts are shocking so bad only 2 of them and they are very small and slow.. Lots of building work going on so very noisey Monday to Saturday.. This is my 3rd time in Malta and stayed in 2 other hotels / apartments. Don't honestly think I would stay here again. Alot of things need to be changed.. Reading other people's reviews with same issues but doesn't appear anything Is being done about it.. Not worth the price at all
Do not book this hotel or you may regret it
This hotel is a 1 star, 2 at a very push. The fitments are like something from fawlty towers. Extremely worn rooms. I would not stay here again if you paid me. We reported an issue and the manager was extremely dismissive and rude too. We booked this a 4 star property and the response to some of many issues was “well you booked a package”. We were informed we would not over look any building work and the was a 100 foot crane outside our balcony. We reported our issues and the company offered us a different location, however, we’d had two days with Basil and Cybil by then. Do not book this accommodation until internal updates have been completed or you may regret it.
The toilet seat didn’t fit the toilet bowl, there was no lock on the external patio door, there was no lock on the bathroom door (we have teenagers), there was black mould marks on the bedroom ceiling, the fridge was rust and there was no bottle shelf, the cupboards were extremely worn, where do I stop.
below expectation
We had a 1 bedroom sea view on floor 6. Room was clean and functional. We had to ask for a microwave, but otherwise everything was there. The laminate floor in the bedroom was lifting and the wind blew through the patio doors. The housekeeping staff were very pleasant, but understood little English as all were immigrants. The reception staff were good. We've stayed at this resort every year in September since 2002, except for the covid years. This years stay was a shock. No Maltese staff. Lounge/coffee shop didn't open till 17.30 No restaurant. Pool area good, but again no food available till after 12.00 (noon) We often had breakfast in the past at the pool, now if you want a breakfast not made by yourself you need to walk to town! The gym is good, but needs policing to stop groups monopolising the machines, the same can be said of the outdoor pool to stop children and teenagers jumping in off the rocks. This maybe our last stay with AX Hotels.
Would recommend sunny coast
Just arrived back from sunny coast. this is the second time we have stayed here. nothing was too much trouble from reception, asked for top sheets, here within 5 mins. Took off the mattress protector, didn't moan about it! Very clean, towels changed every 3 days bedding once a week. Appartment cleaned every 3 days. toaster, kettle, oven, t towel, washing up liquid, all provided. Reception and all communal rooms are very well kept and clean.
We asked for an appartment overlooking the main road, not a problem as bedroom at the back, dark and very quiet at night. Yes, there is building work going on, but that is all over Malta. We never had any loud noise from the work.
We would recommend sunny coast, close to restaurants and bars, some with live entertainment. Don't know why they have bad reviews, we couldn't fault it.
We go to Greece a lot and love it. Malta is bar far up to date with electrics etc.
So, enjoy and don't moan when you get home. If you do have a problem speak to reception and they will get it sorted pronto.
