If exploring the many delights of the wonderful island of Malta is top of your holiday agenda, then the Sliema Marina Hotel could well be the perfect place for you to base yourself. Sliema itself is a charming mix of old and new and boasts a bustling seafront promenade. Staying at the Sliema Marina Hotel in Sliema also means you'll be within easy reach of the Maltese capital of Valetta and the cosmopolitan resort of St Julian's Bay. It's all here for you to discover.
If you've chosen to stay in Sliema, you'll definitely want to be near the promenade – this is where it's all 'happening' not just for tourists and visitors, but for the locals too. Take a dip in the sea, find a shady spot from which to soak up some glorious sunshine, stop off for a cool drink or a tasty meal, or perhaps go for an evening walk as the sun goes down over the sea.
The Sliema Marina Hotel is conveniently located right on the Sliema promenade, so you'll immediately feel very much a part of things from the moment you arrive. You can be sure of a warm welcome too. The Maltese are well-known for their hospitality, and the staff at the Sliema Marina Hotel will be delighted to make you feel at home. This is a very friendly hotel that has a modern feel to it. It fact it's an ideal choice for a relaxed and laid back break away from home. As a result of a recent refurbishment, you'll find that rooms are all very comfortable and well presented. You might wish to upgrade to a sea view room with balcony which is a delight to wake up to each morning or to savour a cool drink as you plan your evening ahead.
All rooms are en suite, air conditioned, and equipped with TV, hairdryer, fridge (at a fee), safe and free Wi-Fi. Elsewhere in the Sliema Marina Hotel, you'll also discover a comfortable lounge, a café, and helpful staff on reception (which is manned 24 hours).
In short, everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday can be found at the charming Marina Hotel, Sliema.
Centrally located on Sliema's promenade the Sliema Marina Hotel is a charming 3 star hotel which is only a stones throw away from Sliema's main attractions.
This friendly, modern hotel is the perfect choice for those looking for a relaxing break while still having the sights and sounds of Malta close at hand. A bus stop is located just outside the hotel.
Having spent 7 nights at the Sliema Marina Hotel, I came away with mixed feelings.
The hotel's biggest strength is undoubtedly its location, which is exceptional. Situated directly on the Sliema waterfront, it is literally across the road from the Valletta ferry, the Gozo Fast Ferry terminal, airport bus stops and harbour cruise boats. Restaurants, bars, cafés and shopping are all within easy walking distance. As a base for exploring Malta, the location is difficult to beat and deserves 10/10.
We stayed in a sea-view room with a balcony and the views across the harbour towards Valletta were outstanding. Watching the ferries and harbour activity from the balcony was one of the highlights of the trip.
The reception area was always clean and tidy, and the staff were consistently friendly, polite and helpful throughout our stay. Guests also receive a discount at the adjoining Greek restaurant, where we enjoyed several good meals.
Breakfast was well cooked but lacked variety, with very little change from day to day. For a shorter stay this may not be an issue, but after a week it became repetitive.
The room itself was clean, the bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well and housekeeping generally did a reasonable job, although tea and coffee supplies were occasionally overlooked. Unfortunately, the room and bathroom were clearly showing their age. The décor felt dark and dated, there were visible cracks and signs of previous repairs, and the bathroom in particular would benefit from refurbishment. While everything functioned correctly and the bathroom was clean, the overall standard of maintenance fell below what I expected.
My overall impression is that this hotel is relying heavily on its superb location, and understandably so, because the location really is excellent. However, the condition of some rooms and bathrooms now appears to be lagging behind.
Would I return? Only if I knew improvements and refurbishment work had been carried out. Would I recommend it? Yes, but with reservations. I would certainly make friends and family aware that while the location is first class, there are newer and better-presented hotels in the same area, and I would only consider the Sliema Marina if it offered noticeably better value for money than those alternatives.
Overall rating: 7/10.
What can I say, for us this hotel ticks all the boxes. Location is perfect, staff are outstanding always so friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great with a beautiful view. We found this hotel 3 years ago and booked again this year, when we made the booking, they remembered us and offered us the same room , which was fantastic. We are already looking forward to going back next year. Keep us the good work Soffiane and team 👏
Great hotel on the front. Clean and tidy. Ideal location.
Myself and my family have just returned from a weeks vacation in Malta staying at the Sliema Marina Hotel which I have to say was excellent . We had booked the superior rooms which were clean and also cleaned daily, the beds were confortable and we also had coffee making facilities, television and a safe for our valuables. The bathroom was clean and the shower worked well. Having booked for breakfast as well it was nice to see the selection that was on offer such as English breakfast, continental and local Maltese food such as pastizzi pastries. The breakfast room was situated on the 8th floor of the hotel which meant that you had stunning views over Sliema's harbour due to the external folding patio doors, also the hotel has a restaurant attached to it on the ground floor called OPA! which served mediterranean fusion dishes and was also very good. One final thing to mention is the quality of the customer service given by the staff who work at the hotel especially Alvaro and Jonathan who were exceptionally helpful and very nice people which in turn made us feel at home. Overall a great hotel in a prime location which is very close to ferries and buses.
Having given the hotel just 2 stars, we would like to start by saying that the staff at this hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is very conveniently situated, with close access to shops, restaurants, bus and ferry terminals. We booked a superior, sea view room and had an incredible view across to Valetta from our very spacious balcony. Unfortunately, the hotel is very run down. There was just one lift with a capacity for 3 people only, servicing 70 rooms (and also used by staff cleaning & servicing rooms). We were informed by staff that the second lift, which displayed a temporarily out of use sign, had been broken for many months. Given the fact that the restaurant is on the 8th floor, breakfast and checkout times became a nightmare (unless you cared to use the stairs!) The view from the 8th floor restaurant is amazing, however the breakfast was not. Fried eggs were hard and never fresh, bacon and sausages greasy and overcooked. Fruit juices were in fact, squash. Yoghurts were long life, tinned fruit salad. Pastries, coffee and toast were fine. Again, staff welcoming, friendly and efficient. Our room was large and had the benefit of hot drink making facilities, a safe and a small fridge. The TV, which can be seen in the hotel photo, is fixed to the wall and there is nowhere to sit to watch it ( the TV is too small to be seen by sitting on the bed). Next to the TV is a fixed hairdryer, but the only mirror is across the other side of the bedroom, with no electric plug nearby to power appliances. The room was large but the bathroom was very small and we would have to sidle in alongside the edge of the bath to access the toilet and sink. It was badly in need of renovation. An odour of old urine pervaded. The toilet seat was broken and areas on the toilet enamel patched up with paint. The sink was badly cracked. The over the bath shower was broken. The rising bar hanging loose, which we fixed by jamming a teaspoon into the place where the fixing mechanism should have been, to enable it to be used. Overall, great position but inside the hotel is in a very poor state.
