Superb Hotel

Review by BT3rd Datchet, United Kingdom

Hotel This hotel sits on the bend of Sliema harbour with a beautiful view out across to Manoel Island, Valletta and Tigné Point. Alex at reception and Maria Belen at breakfast we’re two outstanding and exceptionally pleasant staff, that is not to say all the staff were not pleasant and helpful. The sea view rooms are well worth paying for...

The have a convenient balcony so you can sit in the sun that rises over the harbour. The double sea view room we had was very clean with a safe and mini fridge. The housekeeping were extremely good, leaving the room spotless every day. Thank you. The hotel is also well kept, clean and sanitiser in public places. There is a heated pool on the 10th floor, which we used often. There is also free access to a larger outdoor pool directly opposite the hotel. Breakfast provided hot and cold options, well presented, but generally the same options every day. The staff in there were very helpful too. Close-by there are the typical Maltese shops and bars with a Mall at Tigné Point. The ferry to Valletta is five minutes walk away and there are frequent buses. We used the small underground hotel car park. There is room for nine cars. We found this to be a fine hotel with helpful staff in a good location in Sliema.

Met expectations

Review by Jongleurgirl England, United Kingdom

Stayed over Christmas and New year and chose this location to be close to transport links to explore the island. The Waterfront hotel met this criteria with bus and ferry links within a few minutes walk.

Booked a front sea view room which had spectacular views over the harbour towards Valetta. I would not have booked an inland facing room at this hotel...

The room had a small balcony just big enough to take a small table and 2 chairs. The whole length of the balcony had floor to ceiling windows which gave excellent views without having the doors open.

The room had a seating area with two easy chairs and a small table. The double bed was in fact two singles pushed together, but was comfortable. The storage space consists of shelving units rather than drawers. While there was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe there were not enough hangers. The hangers were of the type that have circular metal fitted to the pole which stay in place when you remove the wooden part. I would suggest taking extra coathangers with you.

There is a safe in the wardrobe a very small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. One bottle of water is provided free of charge, any extra are chargeable. There were plenty of sockets for charging electrical items. The hotel was kept warm during our stay, with individual thermostats in the bedroom - not that we ever found out how to use it properly!

The bathroom was a good size with an overbath shower. The bath was quite low, but worth bearing in mind if you have mobility issues.

We booked on bed and breakfast which was OK. The coffee was very good, the hot selection was not to our taste and when we first tried it not hot enough and I don't think the scrambled eggs had ever seen an egg. However we were happy to eat from the cold selection of meat, cheese, smoked salmon, fruit and pastries.

The hotel has recently opened a pool and terrace area just across the road by the harbour side. Entry to this is free of charge to hotel guests, just pick up a ticket from reception. It is a lovely place to relax in the sun, although too cold for swimming when we visited. There is an indoor pool and a small sun terrace on the tenth floor, but we thought this area was a bit dismal.

Just before Christmas the management hosted a drinks get together in the lobby bar where we had the pleasure of meeting members of the team we would not normally have come into contact with. A very enjoyable couple of hours.

Without exception the other members of staff we came into contact with were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. And Alex is a one-off - a gem the hotel should make sure they keep. We thoroughly enjoyed our daily chats with him.

Review by zpeller Soskut, Hungary

Excellent hotel in a great location. The room has a wonderful view of the bay, the boat station is 3 minutes walk away. Rooms are not very big but comfortable, very clean...

Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, something for everyone. Value for money is also good. I can only recommend it.

Wonderful hotel

Review by yvonnem960 Beccles, United Kingdom

Great hotel. Prime position. We had a lovely room right on the corner overlooking the sea...

Very clean and staff were wonderful. Can’t fault it. Breakfast was ok, not as hot as it should have been but plenty to choose from. There is also access to the swimming pool across the road which you can use. Or you can use the indoor pool and jacuzzi.

First holiday abroad in two years and The Waterfront Hotel and Malta didn’t disappoint.

Review by Angela H Chinley, United Kingdom

From the first we received a warm welcome from Alex at check-in (check his blogs “Alex in Malta” on YouTube, which he produces in his spare time) and this continued with every member of staff we came in contact with afterwards: service was excellent at breakfast and in the bar.

The room was spacious, very clean and well equipped and as we booked a sea view room had lovely views across to Valletta - would really recommend you book one of these rooms as, even though it overlooked the busy coastal road, the double glazing worked very well at keeping noise levels down.

The hotel is ideally situated for getting round the island. Local bus stops were 5 minutes walk away and sightseeing tour buses, boat tours and the Valletta ferry 10 minutes away.

The hotel has a new swimming pool complex, Aqua Luna, across the road with a bar, plenty of space and an infinity pool overlooking the water - entry is free to hotel residents, but it wasn’t warm enough for us in November.

As this was our first overseas holiday in two years due to Covid we couldn’t have wished for a nicer place to go to, thank you.
